A) Thank you so much for this at-home vid. Last time I did Bikram yoga was 30-days in a row in 2010, then I never did it again. B) Didn't know the first set is to see where your body is to then go harder the second time. Makes sense and glad you said it. C) You are a great instructor. I was able to do the positions, then improve upon them without even looking at the screen, just following along auditorilly (and I'm a visual learner). Traditional Original Hot Yoga heat: 105 degrees 40% humidity ! I recommend home practice in your bathroom! Get the shower steam going and a small space heater!

I miss Bikram yoga as many of the yoga studios nowadays are using hot yoga terminology and doing some of Bikram's 26 poses but not all of it. It is kind of a "watered down" hot yoga poses.

I totally get you, here in Dublin it took me ages to find a proper Bikram studio. I tried a few “hot yoga” classes and I injured myself, and that was frustrating being a yoga teacher myself. Then I found a real Bikram and my teacher is exactly like Jeff. They are very rare, but there are ☺️ But Jeff is amazing too!

Great question! While this practice can be done at any time of the day, it is always best to practice on an empty stomach. By practicing class in the mid-morning on an empty stomach, you might find that hunger for your first meal might be in the late morning or around lunchtime. This has allowed your body to take on an "intermittent fast," depending on your last evening meal. The yoga class is a jump start to your body's systems, sort of like tuning up your car, allowing it to run efficiently and effectively. After a yoga class, you might find that your food choices will be healthier and more nutritious as you "listen to what your body needs." Consider doing some research on intermittent fasting, but of course consult with experts in the field of diet and nutrition.

Carlos, in Bikram Yoga we are always careful to modify the depth of the posture performed so as not to aggravate any back injuries. However, in general, many find that backbending is what is great for spinal health, especially in today's lifestyle of sitting, driving, and spending time on electronics. Try it, but be mindful in your approach, as with any exercise or yoga you practice.
