Man, by putting it closer to the camera, you made that fish looking much bigger than it really was. Great job, must be a lot of fun to catch them.

You've obviously never booked a charter on lake Michigan for Chinooks. I have yet to hook up on Wipers or Stripes. So we are in the same boat. A 15" smallie on 4lb test will give you a moment's pause too. I'm gearing up to hit Denison Dam and Texoma this spring. Hopefully starting next month. Good fishing and tight lines to ya.

Nice fish! Usually come down from WI once or twice a year for fun with the family. Kind of a hit or miss in timing. We usually come down on Memorial Weekend. Haven't eaten Wipers yet but they are fun to catch and release. Can't wait to come back this year! Always a blast watching you fish areas that we go to every once in a while!

That's awesome you come down here to fish! I'm spoiled in that I can target different areas based on water level. The fishing is based so much off water level and clarity. Really appreciate you watching the video!

Awesome fight with that fish. Why do you use such a small gauge leader? I’ve just started using leaders on Carolina rig for catfish. I’ve been using a real heavy leader line. Doesn’t the small leader make a weak link for the heavy braid? Thanks for all the tips and info.
@RiverCertified4 жыл бұрын
The lighter floro allows my bait to have more action. Honestly makes a fair bit of difference for hybrids. Also, if your hook snags and you break off, you save your sinker and swivel, and you don't have as many knots to retie.

Team Cramer Fishing it seems like the more I learn about shad movements, the more wipers I catch.
@teamcramerfishing84417 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I don't have much experience with shad in the river, but I have seen them stacked up on the edges of those current breaks before. I found a spot that has an okay break, but it's sandy, not rocky. All I got there the other day was a small channel cat, but didn't have any live shiners to use that day. Do you find wipers ever off the more sandy breaks, or just the rocky ones?
@RiverCertified7 жыл бұрын
Team Cramer Fishing I occasionally catch wipers off of sand breaks, but in the fall rock and gravel seem to concentrate the big shad and the big wipers more.

My dad and I used to fish tailwaters for big sandbass. The 2lb sandbass in current are a blast. I used to take my ultralight with 6lb and 8lb test line, we'd take our miniboat out in the swiftest of the waters. People thought we were crazy for that part. But man, it didn't get much better than that!
@uClash6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, sandbass = whitebass. Occasionally we would hook into a 5 or 6lb hybrid, but they would usually straighten out our hooks, heh.

@billwalker48365 жыл бұрын
Greg Maltby that expression "wipers" been around for quite some time. I heard it back in the 80 on some fishing show and they were calling them "wipers" because they destroyed so much equipment. They would wipe out your rod and reels especially if you happen to be crappie fishing and you hook a "wiper" it would destroy the reel, burn up the drag. Them older reels didn't have the best drags on em especially if you were fishing a Johnson Century or a Zebco 202 or something like that old Shakespeare gear. Hence they gave them that nickname "wipers" "whyyypers" I had to go out and buy me a new Zebco I must have hooked into one of them wipers just burn that reel rat up :] back in the day, we didn't invest loads of cash into fishin quipment like now a days everything is so specialized...
