I bought and live in an old schoolhouse from 1900. Halfway down my street is a cool church someone bought and turned into an antique shop. It's more common than people think to re purpose these cool old buildings. Nice listing. Beautiful stained glass. Without that 2nd story floor live music would probably sound great in there. Might have made a nice music studio.

An old church on my street is used as a business showroom for sound equipment in the day and a stage on weekend nights. Anybody in the neighborhood is welcome to play there and it’s becoming a scene for musician meetups.

If I owned that place, it would be a place you could go to see song writers preform their own songs in the evening while being served a choice of that evening's list of country meals. The music would be country/folk/americana/ mountain music. Non-electric instruments. Like getting to hang out at Austin City Limits in the old days when you could get Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and many others playing rounds of songs and having fun. In the afternoon it would be music camp for the local kids, too. What do you think folks? Is that cool or what? Who would you like to hear play there? Oh, and one room upstairs would be a free place for the musicians to sleep if they did not live nearby.

We bought an old church a few years ago, and renovations are underway. Getting the residential zoning was the hardest part of the process and took over two years. My only caution is that because these buildings are so big, the slightest repairs cost a fortune. Nothing is small scale. It also costs us a lot to heat it, so most of the winter we block off one floor. Those stained glass windows are in beautiful shape, but they won't retain heat. The kitchen is great, and I think this place would make a beautiful home!

It's already assembly occupancy; sure would like to see it continue as a restaurant. All that kitchen equipment is a ton of money invested. I'm not sure it would meet code in my state for sleeping rooms; they must have immediate access to outdoors, either by door or window opening. The lack of windows and natural light upstairs would be problematic for a residence. There's also not emergency lighting units that are required in my state or an automatic sprinkler system. If those things are not required, then this is a great deal for someone to snatch up and make a go of it.
@BradSimmons
@BradSimmons 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Virginia Moss, I agree!!! Yup, it was a full running restaurant and event venue, so everything passed with flying colors. And of course, they always add a thing or two as you go along - another fire extinguisher - or a light, but those things are trivial money. Hi coalhearted, not true, not factual, misleading and so much bad advice, and this does go out to the public... geez., Pro tip #1: it has a mortgage now and the guy just moved out to sell it... and its zoned Residential - with a commercial conditional use permit - which is easy for the new owners to get. Pro tip #2: as in every state that I am knowledgable in - it goes by municipality, county, town - no blanket zoning ordinances for a 'state'. Pro tip #3 what does a house and mortgage have to do with bedrooms. Yes, you can get a mortgage on property that 'isn't a house' - how in the world do you think you get a mortgage on bare land, an RV Park, a strip mall, a restaurant, an office building, a farm, a quarry, industrial buildings, any commercial property, a Dollar General, a Walgreens, an airport, on and on. I mean really.... this folks is why you need competent professional representation - call or text our Agents 859-379-5263.

Well I finally watched it. In the United Kingdom there are a lot of converted churches that have been made into homes. The majority are fantastic and perhaps 200-500 years old. This is a great project for someone who either wants a business or a home or even both. To be honest I would exit the door as fast as I could. It’s just not my cup of tea! Bring on the RV Park or a stunning log cabin with about 20-100 acres of land and I’ll be happy 😊 If your young and a decent chef 👨‍🍳 you can possibly rearrange the restaurant and have an outdoor BBQ area with take aways you can build a business worth double the amount in say 5 years but it’s incredibly hard work. I’d do pottery afternoons where you can eat and paint your piece of pottery and go home with something unique. The best of luck to whoever buys this church ⛪️ 💫

Don't they have fire marshal codes there? All bedrooms have to have escape Windows. We do restoration on properties we buy. But there is A lot of codes we got to abide by, to make the house to code.

100000 is a fair deal if you leave all the stuff in there. My wife and I bought one of these 9 years ago. It isn't as bad to heat and cool as you might think. If you buy it make sure someone is living in it and have someone there on Halloween because idiots want to break in and wreck stuff. To a bank it is not worth much unless you have a plan. Make sure in your purchase agreement you specifically say what stays. If it isn't in there you will lose it. Also if you are going to use it for a restaurant it is clear of asbestos. They won't ok it nowadays. It is cool because we use it every year for a family Christmas party. We also use it for weddings. There is a school attached to ours so we have a fu) kitchen and dining room. The best use I have found for one is a bridal center. In St Charles MN they use it for that. You have a ton of floor space and can cater to several wedding parties and prom dresses. Women will travel to there because when it comes to their dress they spend money. My insurance on mine is about 3000 a year. Heat is 600 on the coldest month. Lights are around 250 a month. I had to put a new roof on 2 years ago for 58000. It has been the funnest piece of real estate we've owned.

Im looking at something similar with my husband however I was old by my realtor the house couldn’t be a mortgage. The church has been on and off the market since 2007 we’d love to finish the renovations started on it but we already have one mortgage and so we would need to figure out what to do. Any suggestions as a realtor? Been searching but I haven’t seen many answers but would love to learn and find out how it could be possible.

@helenaw5272 - well that realtor gave you incorrect information. of course you can get a mortgage on any real estate. the sellers did - and so did the buyers. not sure what they are telling you. I've been doing this since 1981. 😀 Can our Team jump on a 15-minute pre-buyer consult, so we can find out where you're at? This isn't a sales call - it's literally about YOU - why you want to move to Kentucky? How much land do you need? Price point? How soon? This is the best way to get us to send you properties that match what YOU want. kylandsales @ gmail or call or text Jennifer at 859-472-4045 - you will love her - and she will connect you with the top suited Team Member for exactly what you are looking for.
