I think the greatest rewatch factor besides being fun. Is Sam Ramis Spider-Man villains are not “mustache twirling” characters hell bent on destroying the earth or city. They were always more grounded and personally to Spider-Man. Every hero movie today has to be some elobrate plan from the villain to take over or destroy the world. That’s why these always hold up. Everything is three dimensional and well executed.
@gnc6233 жыл бұрын
This movie is fantastic! Several highlights from this movie that I thought were especially good: Aunt May. Rosemary Harris is, IMO, the best version of Aunt May we get, and this is her at her best. Her reaction when Peter tells her he was indirectly responsible for Uncle Ben's death is incredibly acted. THEN her scene following when she talks to Peter about being a hero is ultra moving. I get slightly teary-eyed when watching it. And they definitely seemed to imply she knew he was Spiderman. And let's acknowledge her best moment: "SHAME on you!" Doc Oc. Although I slightly prefer the over-the-top campiness of Green Goblin (I know I'm probably in the minority on that, but I love me some over-the-top villains with an evil laugh), an amazing character/villain. He had a compelling arc from beginning to end, a bit better woven together, I will concede, than Norman Osborn as Green Goblin. J. Jonah Jameson: I thought out of the three films this was Jameson at his best. In the first one, he was a bit too harsh. In the third one, he was too much of a punchline. The brunt of jokes. In this one, he was the perfect blend of snarky and comedic. His reaction to "Could you pay me in advance?" gets me in stitches every time. Peter's arc was really good in this one, too. I honestly think this movie was pretty flawless. The only element I'm a little mixed on is Mary Jane's "love interest" in this one. The astronaut guy. He's pretty much a bore and a stand-in character. His presence affects the plot of the movie almost none. And similar to how Jango Fett served as the template for the clone army, him being J.J. Jameson's son is completely arbitrary. There's no real compelling story reason for it. But overall, amazing movie.

Along with the mixed element you mentioned, something that never gets mentioned is that Doc Ock gets punched by Spiderman repeatedly in the face and he's a human while Spiderman was super human and strong enough to stop a train which is hundreds of thousands of pound, just a little plot hole I noticed in this review of it that I saw.
@SlasherIncorporated3 жыл бұрын
Spider-Man was holding back. Yeah, the movie itself doesn't actually explain that at all, but the comics have directly mentioned the fact that Spider-Man pulls his punches and goes easy on his adversaries. If he were to fight using full force, he would kill almost everybody he went up against.

@@SlasherIncorporated you are right but he only does that against ordinary thugs and normal bad guys. @@SlasherIncorporated Like when he beat up Kingpin in the comics and basically said the only reason Fisk could go toe to toe with him all the other times they fought was because Peter was holding back. I remember being SO excited for this movie before it came out, having loved the first one so much. It was probably the most anticipated film of 2004. I was actually slightly disappointed with it the first time I watched it. I still thought it was awesome for the most part, and the fights with Doc Ock were incredible! But, for a time, I thought it was the weakest of the trilogy and "There's not so much Spider-Man action in this movie compared to the first film and the third film" was EXACTLY the reason why. I thought it was a bit boring compared to those two. I guess I was just too young and immature at the time to truly appreciate all of what they were going for in this movie. But, having grown up, I can definitely say that I appreciate this film A LOT more now...and can understand why so many people consider it one of the best, if not THE best Spider-Man movie. I also grew more of an appreciation for the character of Doc Ock after seeing it. At first, I was disappointed that they chose him as the villain. When I was kid, I thought he was lame. An overweight, nerdy-looking scientist with metal arms on his back? That's not cool...but the movie did a great job of making him seem cool to me. Now I love Doc Ock. While the first film is my favorite this one is definitely the best Spider-Man film.

I can respect that. While I know I'm not the only one who says this, I'll make it brief. While the fist Spider-Man movie is indeed fun, the sequel is indeed the best and as I said earlier, this is more than just my favorite comic book movie, this IS my favorite movie.

@@Merit2397 it really is amazing and it's definitely not a bad choice for your favorite movie. Also as I stated it's not my favorite Spider-Man film but I do admit it is the best of the series and I do love it.

@@bigkmoviesandgames Perfectly understandable. The reason Spider-Man 2 is my favorite is mostly personal, so I'll keep it summarized. Ironically when I was a kid, I thought it was the most boring of the original trilogy because it was most like a drama, that changed as I got older. The film tackles the subject of sacrifice, something we all have to go through at one point or another. It is a very human, well thought out and not story not just about Peter Parker but is almost a perfect mirror of all the trail and tribulations we have to go though in the real world. What is the moral right? How can one balance a personal life without pushing away the people around you, and what we have to give up and is it even worth it? On top of that, it's a movie that can tackle all of this and yet still end with a sign of hope.

What about you? What makes the first movie your favorite?

@@Merit2397 Yeah I completely agree. As I got older I liked it more as well. Although I still think mj is very toxic.
