26:00 is the heart of AMG on display. Shaun is racking his brain to try to help this student, and all of us. What he demonstrates from 26:10-28:45 has revolutionized my downswing move. You guys are making extraordinarily valuable contributions to the golf industry, and all of us. We cannot thank you enough. 👊🏼

The correct lower body, re-centering and early straightening of the left leg moves you are teaching your client, combined with a full, fluid and rhythmic backswing and starting the downswing with the shoulders and back still closed does produce higher swing speed without any effort by the arms because it produces a more efficient swing. One can almost forget the arms if the lower body (pelvis and leg) movements are done correctly as you are showing him. It seems that almost all of us recreational non-pro golfers try to gain speed by starting the downswing with the arms and trying to swing our arms harder and faster with more effort. It's an almost shocking but very pleasant surprise to find that we increased swing speed by 5 mph or more without making any effort at all with our arms.

20:34 I like how you connect the data and the real-life swing. The flow you describe is real, but I will say that the first time I started swinging consistently with that feeling it felt "weird" (like the patting head/circling stomach can feel weird). It takes time for it to start to feel "right"!

I really like these videos on how you diagnose and work to implement changes. These videos are great to see what y'all do to change the golfer from the parts of their swings that are causing inefficiencies to the corrections to implement the changes. This helps me to correct what I am doing wrong because I am doing the same things- especially the timing of the re-centering, which I am still working on. The mind can be a terrible thing!!!! Wow!!! I know that I have watched this before, but does this video hit home for me. I am just recovering from a hip injury and have made adjustments over the past two years so that I can continue playing golf. Unfortunately now that I am feeling better this late transfer of force to my front foot is really causing me issues with contact. This video really explains the proper methods to transfer the force and not slide the lead hip past the lead knee at impact. Eye opening and thank you so much. I have been a member of AMG+ for two years and have been injured and it is time to take advantage of your wealth of knowledge.

Great stuff. Where Sean shows him how to "back in" to the shot and THEN turn is, I think, a real key that can help so many golfers, party because it is slightly counterintuitive. Most people swing forward because that is where they want to send the ball, so the shoulders open and the club is over the top. Whereas if they would recenter, bring the club down, then rotate, they are in the money.

Great vid- I always learn a lot from this series. I like the MRI analogy-we're always tinkering but it's usually just guessing and then we head down a path that usually takes you to a place where you have to make a decision to jump ship or work your way thru it. It's that turnaround point that is important --is it worth staying there and going thru the pain of a new pattern or not! I always envy those students who have you and Shaun telling them to just stay with it cause you're on the right track!

Hi, loved that lesson, and it’s amazing to see the transformation in Jackson’s swing, I also remember the bear hug video with John, my main question is, what is the best way to get your hip and ankle in alignment at address, as like many golfers my hip joint is way behind my ankle, I’m 7 handicapper and I’m positive this adjustment would give me considerable improvement in consistency, would love to hear back from you guys. Robert from Scotland

Your clients issues you were addressing are exactly my problem. I have years of rugby and tackling under my belt and when I started to play golf and people talk about weight shift it's all about pushing off the back foot to create forward force. This is where my swing is at I don't understand how to reverse that. This video helps somewhat.

I’ve missed these long-form video lessons. They are always fascinating to watch with golden nuggets of information contained throughout. There is so much great stuff in this video …. backing in closed as you recenter, dropping the arms early in transition rather than dumping under late, whipping the club through as the ground forces properly spike, getting a long left side at impact. If I were Jackson, there’s so much great stuff presented to me, it might lead to information overload. I would not know what to think about first. So my question is, what was Jackson’s “queen bee” flaw (to quote Shaun from a previous video)? What is the one thing that Jackson could focus on in his mind that would then set all these great things in motion without having to think about each of these things individually (that you point out throughout the video)? Thanks, as always, for sharing these long-form video lessons. Awesome stuff! 👊👊

That pelvis move by backing towards the target to recenter is so subtle it’s almost invisible in 2D. Makes so much more since than the hip “bump” everyone used to talk about. Recommendation if its possible: around the 8 min mark when youre using the gears with Jackson and Shaun starts trying things; we only see the gears stuff and not the real life interaction. It would help us to see that interaction! Same at 18:40ish. The camera angle at 24:30ish is perrrrrfect for when shaun is discussing stuff with jackson off screen. Idk anything about video editing so idk how hard it would be to make these edits but it would help us understand the visuals and etc! Great video!!!

I learned to play in my 30’s but didn’t play frequently enough to work on improving until I was 58, retired, and working part time at course where I was able to practice and play for free. I was a long distance bike rider and had a really good hip turn with biggest change in my physical condition over those years was in my lower back and what I progressively started doing was side bending less and less which caused the problem seen in this video, the hips staying too level and the lead leg not straightening. A golf swing is all about action and swinging into resistance resulting from torque in the legs caused by anchored angled feet but I found the way my upper body mass moved relative to the feet and center of rotation with side bend or lack of it impacted lower body movement for the good or bad depending how stiff my back felt. I’m now 72 and living in a community with a lot of senior golfer and lack of any side bending through impact is the most common swing fault I see and something I stay conscious of when warming up, practicing and playing. While playing its the first thing that goes wrong when starting to get tired.

Great video as usual, really helpful to see how you are teaching individuals to implement a lot of the ideas we have already seen in your previous videos (ie there is no magic move but a combination of things which need to be done at the right time). Two keys nuggets which I’m working on: - recentreing move: the key thing I’ve learnt is that it’s just a move back to the centre (not a shove back from the right foot). I tend to find that after the initial bump to the right this recentre move happens almost automatically by making sure the left hip tilts down on the backswing - getting the arms down: this has been the lightbulb moment for my swing and what works really well for me is feeling like I’m extending my right arm (which automatically lowers and creates width) simultaneously to when I’m planting my pressure on the left foot (to ensure left hip goes back up and around) Good work as always and keep posting these live training sessions 👍👍

Hi haricsl, I’ve only just posted but you sound like me. I was always push off the right foot but always felt as though I was leaving weight on the right. I learnt to straighten the left side but still struggled to get the weight off the right foot. I found that making my shoulders steeper on the downswing allowed my right leg/knee to come across. I have a feeling of rolling my right foot more than the aggressive push I had and it’s stopped my right knee shooting out. I feel as though I have more time to hit the ball because I don’t seem to rotate my shoulders as much and feel more free through the release. I’m a lefty that plays right handed and am now wondering if my left side was too aggressive on rotation🤔. Who knows😂

Brilliant once again. I had a GEARS lesson here in the UK only because I couldn't get across to see you Guys. Unfortunately, the people I saw didn't really understand the software and even asked me if I'd drive nearly 2 hrs and spend a day 'playing around with it' and let them know how to use it. The inspiration for my visiting them came from Shaun and Mike's lesson with 'John' who your student Jackson referred to here. I wanted to see my Hip and Pelvic Centre Trace, but they couldn't provide it (even though they said they could) Just wondered if Mike or Shaun could offer any advice?

Good to see consistency here in what you are telling the client to do with his left leg push up and re-centering with shoulders still closed and the teaching of Dr. Kwon. That builds confidence in both. Am pretty sure you two have studied Dr. Kwon's biomechanics stick figures showing the lines of ground force you show here. Very important to have that line of combined ground force move to the left and not stay over to the right hip. If it stays to the right (trail leg) there is hip spin without much torque.

Probably out there and not related but the young man who won in Los Angeles last week, Joaquin, cant remember his last name well enough to spell it, Really had something going on with his right shoulder way tilted low and firing through impact yet in slow motion face on he looks "jammed" or stuck. His arms are crammed through impact and it would seem he is one inch from fat city or shanks. Brought it up as I hope no one is out there trying to practice or mimick such a difficult move. Great video again AMG!

Can you explain a little more how to bend the right knee in order to land on the left side? Does the right knee go out toward the ball after it has straighten at Checkpoint 4? I know you guys have talked about how the best players are squaring the face through the entire downswing using grip roll, but can you speak to how early in the downswing the lead and trail arms rotate (forearm and humerus?). If I hold off those supination ideas until the delivery window, I struggle to catch the face up and close it enough. Starting that rotation from the top seems to make things feel easier but weird, and I've never heard the swing described that way or seen numbers to suggest one way is more or less functional.

It would be great to see similar drills using the lead arm. I am lead side dominant (throw LH but play RH). And have had issues with "golfers elbow" in my right (trail) arm so I am reluctant to do drills that put strain on the right elbow (like these throwing motions with my wrong hand).

Great stuff. I'm a 1 handicap with 20 years of golf and 5 instructors in my history. I can 100% confirm this lesson is the most difficult mind/hand connection. I have had a history of hitting the ball slightly heavy which has led to progressively swinging from outside to in (effectively moving the low point of the arc forward). I've wanted to feel that path slightly more in to out. This lesson explains perfectly why I can't. I too tend to slide with a bent left knees at contact. Thanks for the lesson. Question: When I attempt to apply this lessons, it's difficult for me to feel like I'm compressing the ball. In other words, with this swing modification will the angle of attack change for Jackson if so, would you expect a different shot shape (low launch and high spin etc..)

One thing that will help players whose swing body movement is being reprogrammed to avoid topping the ball is to be sure they don't jump up when they are trying to straighten the left leg. The straightening itself creates ground force and promotes the correct amount of hip turn leading into a balanced, upright finish on the left foot. But too many golfers are seeing some of the pros seem to leap into the air with their left leg, with the foot entirely off the ground, so they try to imitate that when trying to follow your instruction to just straighten the left leg and not let it slide toward the target.

You two speak so much sense it’s scary. Your use of modern technology is brilliant because it shows us stubborn golfers our flaws and that we only have to tweak our swings to play better. Instead of having a meltdown and trying to totally rebuild our swings 😂. This particular video where you extend the left side is something that worked for me but I didn’t know why until now and the pushing too hard off the right foot has been a revelation for my swing. I find my weight transference is better and that I can feel the club drop better and my arms come across the front of me. There seems to be a free falling of my arms back to the driver and more time to hit the ball. WARNING! If I PULL with my HANDS on the downswing and not my ARMS I seem to stiffen my forearms and my release is terrible. I love the way you show all the different angles but concentrate on FEEL for the golfers. I’m a FEEL player and you guys do it brilliantly Thanks so much from the UK👏👏👏

This is fascinating work guys! If I understand this correctly it is why Dr. Kwon is always having problems with his subjects not moving to the left fast enough forward during the back swing in the stage 1 drill? Also the recentering move that he is teaching appears to me to be quite natural in the more standardized golf swing that you are teaching without the visual reverse pivot aspect. Anyway it must be a common pressure transfer fault as I have had trouble moving forward so early. Is this pressure shift timing the cause of speed loss? I am curious because when I practiced the Kwon swing at the range I did gain substantial speed but the variations for me were substantial from swing to swing. Just found it curious and interesting and thought it was probably a sequencing thing but may have resulted from an upper body movement from my old swing. By the way I was definitely pushing off my trail foot in the downswing thinking it added speed. I wish all this tech existed when I was first learning how to move.

I know iam doing the same wrong movement of a sagging left knee like your showing here i think its from starting the left knee well before the backswing is anyway near complete i think this concepet is partially due to most teachers are saying get off the right side early before the top of the backswing and i misunderstood the way to get off the right side early is by using my left knee whear as pressure from the right foot and the right hip turnig toward the target is all thats required to recenter he looks like he might have had the same idea before your lesson since his left knee is so far foreard and sagging at impact am i on the right track finally do you thing and maby its a common misunderstood fault since in the past there has been a lot of emphasis on starting with the left knee thanks for your continued help maby it could be a topic you could cover in one of your lessons When and exactty how the left knee works to start downswing i now realize from this great video its not used to recenter you probly have covered it earlier i just missed it

Guys, I tried the hip bump while turning my rear towards the target. At first I hit the ball thin. Then I was leaving it out to the right. So I then let my hands release to square up the club, and I was hitting it flush. Does this sound like the right sequence? It took any pulls to the left away.

Minute 26:00-28:00ish is money for me and I can't wait to try it out in practice. I'm an 8 handicap with respectable distance and no issues shallowing the club shaft on the downswing to the elbow plane, but I figured it couldn't hurt to check out your videos because I noticed once in a blue moon, I can accidentally hit the ball 10-20 yards further and I don't know why. I tend to chalk it up to hitting a flyer or hitting it slightly thin. It makes me think I might have accidentally did similar motions in the video without realizing and actually knowing what I'm doing. Trying out that move while here at home literally felt a gigantic amount of more space for my arms on the downswing. That "second click" you mentioned even earlier in the video is something I didn't really feel. I always brought that "second click" to the middle, not to my lead leg. I'm super excited to try this out in practice!

@@AthleticMotionGolf @Athletic Motion Golf Just got back from the range and I was so excited to reply back. If you don't mind, i'd like to tell you about my current setup. I am sorry that is it long, but it’s really good to know how I got to my current swing. My swing: I have a narrow-ish stance because I had a history of chronic plantar fasciitis until I fixed it completely. What resulted was a very SAFE use of my lead foot during the swing, meaning I lessened how much I normally fired my left leg on the downswing. It was not really a problem because obviously I wasn't really using it correctly anyways, but the power difference was evident when using it vs. not using it. So, I usually just spun my hips open as you guys state at minute 19:38. Which brings me back to my narrowed stance. Before, if I widened my stance too much (Not literally over-widened, just wide for me, because I naturally want to do that to use my legs) and load my backside with a very tiny sway backwards, I would generally hit it fat because I would then have to do two things at once: 1) Try to shift onto the lead leg and fire my hips and then 2) fire my lead leg for that power move, which typing this out sounds like so much work and it requires a LOT of distance for the hips to travel. So, short story long, my currently compromised swing is a narrowed stance, set my weight centered at address, weight stays centered on the backswing, which then allowed me to shift only very slightly to get the low point ahead of the ball. As you can imagine, it’s still a somewhat athletic move, but definitely not a POWERFUL athletic move. I have not mentioned how my arms move because I’ve always been able to shallow the club shaft to my elbow plane (aka how Shaun has mentioned in videos before where the hands drop slightly after the “second click” weight shift at the top of the swing), BUT with my “narrow” stance swing usage, you can imagine that I have always felt that my arms don’t have a lot of room to shallow, particularly if I gained some belly size (lol). Now on to my normal “tempo”: My tempo, my necessity, had to be slower ( I wouldn’t say it is subjectively slow, it is just smooth and rhythmic but I wished it was slightly quicker), because even with my normal golf swing (reminder: the “narrowed” swing), I cannot fire too hard at the top (again, this is without that “second click”/Re-centering shift at the top of the swing that you guys coined) because it would be PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME to hard rotate AND shift QUICKLY ENOUGH to get off my back leg on the downswing. So, with that said, you might be guessing already that I have a certain threshold of tempo & downswing speed/intent to make my golf swing work. This is a good time to mention my driver swing speed: It is an acceptable (for me) 103mph. My driver launch and spin numbers are good enough for my speed. I’m consistently 0-1* up angle of attack and my smash factor is generally 1.45-1.48 on trackman. I have a baseball background so when I first took up golf, I was hitting a LOT harder than I do currently because I was using my natural athleticism without actually focusing on accuracy of course. I remember having enough swing speed to hit my 3 wood 260 for my 2nd shots on all the par 5’s at my home course. My miss: It has always been thin and can get me into trouble, especially when I have no choice but to put myself into my awkward range, which are distances 60-70 yards. One or two thin shots around the green are enough to keep my handicap solidly at 8-9 from flying the green into OB or leave me in really tricky lies. With all of this said, I am very good at implementing changes to my swing, so at home I was able to already engrain the re-centering move you guys coined (Although in my opinion, that term always trips me up because the term leaves out the KEY TIMING of it, because I know I re-center/shift on the downswing, I just did it at what “felt” a natural moment, but obviously not the BEST moment). I went to the range this morning and OH. MY. GOODNESS…In the 8 years that I’ve been an 8-9 handicap, that second click/re-centering at the top move opened the door to all the athletic feels that I used/to wanted to feel on the downswing and INSTANTLY MADE SO MANY NOTICEABLE CHANGES: 1) I can fire as HARD as I want, provided my swing is still in sync! Which is great, because I’ve been working out again 2) I can literally feel how much more POWERFUL the downswing is from the ground up. The harder I went after it, the more POWERFUL that feeling became! 3) It allowed me to increase my TEMPO, to what feels like DOUBLE the speed, which in turn helps make the “re-centering” move more PRONOUNCED, which in turn is my trigger to GO. Coupling it with your guy’s “Stay in motion” drill. I LOVE my new tempo!!! 4) There is SO MUCH MORE ROOM FOR MY ARMS TO SHALLOW! It doesn’t feel like if I gained 2 more pounds, my swing plane would be outside-in by default, but rather I had so much room for error! 5) My ball flight looked STRONGER, more penetrating, it was flatter and peaked later than I usually see, and it was flying LONGER (roughly 10-15 yards with my irons with restricted-flight balls, so I can’t accurately gauge my distance with longer clubs at my range). 6) My trajectory control is EVEN BETTER. I generally have a normal flight and a low shot. With this move, for some reason I can hit an even lower shot than my usual low. 7) My dispersion looked narrower for sure, but I still need to see on course and under pressure if my grip strength needs adjusting now that I’m delivering the club, to what feels like, very differently. 8) The SOUND of IMPACT is 100% different. I thought I was hitting it solid before (I use JPX 921 tour irons), but it sounded CONSISTENTLY different! A LOT more SOLID. At first I was thinking it might have been because of good condition balls , but even extremely worn balls sounded INCREDIBLE. 9) The sound of the backspin right after impact! The FIZZ off the clubface was LOT MORE noticeable than usual! I knew after hitting consistently high “fizz” sounding shots, I knew this move is TRULY MAGIC. I know I still have to confirm that it translates on-course, but I know my swing well enough to know if it’s a “maybe” or a “non-issue” type of change. I’m confident that it’s the latter. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for what you do. You have very likely made my enjoyable game exponentially more enjoyable than it already was. Thanks again, M

so at address the upperchest is bent over, spine rounded, at the top the chest extends an spine straightens. It seems that if the first move down is getting the chest back down and rerounding the back that would improve all of those thing with the lower body work, shallowing the club, keeping the shoulders closed alittle longer, not over working the arms early, and creating that early hand speed while not loosing control of the path and face. Like that drill Shawn did with the chest pointer. Thoughts?
