There's nothing out of line for the police. They can legally stop you for an investigation and suspect you and charge you for something else if they really wanted to, it's not against the law. If you were stopped to be asked at a park because the police were investigating/looking for someone and you talked to them and they smelled marijuana on you or suspected anything else, they would have reasonable suspicion/probable cause to detain and possibly arrest you for that. It's not out of the ordinary for the police to do that. There's so many cases where people get pulled over for routine traffic stops and end up being charged for possession of an illicit substance, or addition things if necessary.

Im pretty sure they couldnt ticket him for DUI since there was no initial crime he committed. He was only pulled over on a suspicion of being a gunman. Since they couldnt tell otherwise they cant nab him for it because there was no reason other than the initial for the traffic stop. Meaning they couldnt tell in the fist place so they cant nab him for it now.

1) Brass casings at the scene; steel casing recovered from the SUV driver's weapon. 2) Probable cause to search the vehicle for additional weapons may have been conducted but not included in the episode (we have no real clue about the length of time the subject was detained). 3) Agree that statements did give probable cause to conduct a DUI investigation but I wasn't there so I'm not gonna second guess Slidell PD. 4) Confiscated firearm? I see that it is missing from the door when the driver leaves but I'm not sure why the PD would keep the firearm when they admit on camera that it is not the firearm used in the crime.
