It is more common for timber construction in the US for residential type properties it does leave these buildings with vulnerabilities mainly to fire and also to gunfire as just demonstrated.

The power comes from the FMJ rounds they were using. That metal plating around the bullet gives the bullet it’s penetration power, because it doesn’t flex or warp very much while passing through surfaces. Drywall and wooden studs might as well be hot butter to it.
