If you scan ahead to 30:58 you can see Hunter Burgan smash the tuning peg of his bass into his head and at the end of the song theres blood all down the side of his face. Which I think makes this video quite rare!! :)

I know this is an old ass comment but it brought back a memory for me. I was in New Orleans and saw AFI Davey was in the pit for the band that opened for them and he caught an elbow that busted hit lip and same thing blood everywhere but he could have given a shit he loved it lol.

10 years ago, I would've left a comment that said, "I would've killed to of been there". Now, I think I'd die from heat exhaustion if I were. That said, I'm very happy that this era of AFI is available to watch, and I have nothing but good things to say about this band.

I grew up on the jersey shore, and was 15 years old, at this show! Finding this footage just blew my fucking mind, I've never had a vivid flashback of this magnitude! And, Casino skate park is where I first dropped into a real half pipe. Some of the best times of my life were spent seeing these shows and being with my friends at this skate park.. This era and the scene was amazing, the community was unparalleled... Thank you x1000 for uploading this.

Damn this gives me chills! I was 17 years old at the time and would have been absolutely blown away by this. I didn't get to see them live until a few years later when I was 20. They were already a much bigger deal by then of course, but still put on an awesome show.

Saw AFI for first time in '96, and last time was in '99 :( then their shows were too much money after that :( the low fidelity quality of this vid really reminds of going to shows on the west coast during this time period(mid-90s to very early 00s). really miss those days. damn I'm old lmao

HOLY SHIT!! im smiling ear to ear writing this comment lol when the music hit the whole damn place would just fucking erupt it was amazing i have never seen a band especially a lead singer with that much energy is was infectious.

Got into them like a year before. Thought... "how is this band not the biggest band in the world!?" (Thought the same with Bouncing Souls) Then in like 4 years... I'd see them on TRL with Brittany gawddamn Spears!!!! Wasn't the same band I fell in love with! StS eventually grew on me though! Seeing them at hardrock live in Otown FL made me have a new appreciation for the StS songs.

Ima be honest though low key they still play like a punk band at these bigger venues. They speed up the tempo to all there songs live and the tempo is always a beat you could two step or skank too live. Just my observation from last night I finally caught AFI live.

I absolutely love AFI, especially the hardcore and the darkness they expressed. They have changed as a band/individuals yet have done a great job of incorporating that darkness in their latest work.They have remained true. They will not be going back to the hardcore roots at any pointfor album sales. They still play the older songs. They continue to make music they want and take whatever label they feel will help them in their own ambitions, even if it means being labeled as selling out.

I think you got the year wrong in the title. At one point Havok says about "our new album Black Sails..." which was '98 if im not mistaken....not that it matters. This is a great video, man. Back when AFI was a fucking force of nature. Kudos to you, this really takes me back. Its a shame the band is unlistenable garbage now.
@OffTheAirScene7 жыл бұрын
Joseph Hamer it's possible.. I know I went to this venue in 98 and 99 just couldn't remember which year. This video is old and I guessed the year.. lol thanks for pointing it out. Helps me with the timeline of the other shows I have posted from Casino Skate Park.

@jared10308111 жыл бұрын
I think if AFI had kept playing shows like this or even the shows they played on the Art of Drowning tour they would have a bigger following today. They were a more likeable band in this era with all the core people and even a few years after. I don't like the new afi performance. The little kids have no money, and album sells are crap right now. It's all about the live performance! Do you agree? Bring back the roots! They will when they are 60 and no one cares anymore.
@brockman5623 жыл бұрын
Answer that and stay fashionable (my fave, I'm old skool, sorry), very Proud of ya, black sails in the sunset, all hallows, and Shut your mouth and open your eyes are the really good albums, art of drowning and Decemberundergroud are ok/good, then albums after that were just...shit.
@jared10308111 жыл бұрын
They do not play enough old songs at there shows now a days. I think they died after Sing the Sorrow. Creating more industrial style approach to the future music would be cool. Not the pop/screamo for the kids and media. I do agree with you in some ways though Lucifuge...
