Nate is phenomenal. He has help me so much. I am disabled and I don't have the money to pay for a in person service dog program. I have been quoted that it would cost $50,00] for training.

Looking through some of your videos. Much of this is similar to how I trained my dog. It came with a huge bonus side effect that is just now coming to the forefront. My boy is an 18 year old Keeshond and in his extreme age is completely deaf and has fading vision for to cataracts. Those gestures he learned early in were never forgotten even if at didn't use them after he learned his voice commands. He is just as obedient as he was before he lost his hearing, And we've gone back to keeping a treat in hand with gestures to encourage following motions by scent of treat as his vision continues to fade. This method has helped him accommodate the loss of function with age, and because he's been able to adapt, he is happy and thriving, and able to maintain his routine and do what's expected of him.

Love your videos Nate! I adopted a puppy about 3 months ago and been checking out LOTS videos, yours is the one I love most and I practiced the training with your principal it had been working well, but then sometimes it doesn’t seem to work so well so now I went back to the videos and seeing what I didn’t do correct, it’s great! BTW, I can’t stop smiling at the end of the video I don’t even know why lol . Thank you!

Thank you for all the info. I always enjoy watching and suggest you videos to others. I would love a series on a remote training collar. I just ordered a Dogtra one today. Initially going to use it to stop digging in the yard and jumping onto the kitchen table and counters for food. However, eventually I would like to use it for obedience, especially for going for walks in the woods. I have your book and you go over it in there but it would be great to see video as well.

Hi Nate I really enjoy your tips. I have a 13 week German Shepherd. In one of your puppy videos you mentioned you like to train the puppy around 3 / day for about 5-15 minutes. I’ve been following that advice. However that leaves a lot of time left in the day. Should I crate her in between lessons? I have let my adult lab play with her. That play time dilutes from having the training be the best part of her day. Thanks for your reply and your videos.

Do you have a E collar Video yet to show how to use them correctly? And do you use them on 6 month puppy’s who jump and bite you during training or when he gets too excited he will start jumping and biting all over, how would you correct them using an e collar or is it even ok to use them on puppy? Please let me know thanks.

Honestly, I used to get so mad when I first got my service dog. She is focused, and working. I need her to focus because she is a mobility and balance dog. If she gets distracted, I can fall and get seriously injured.
@bdogg20101
@bdogg20101 Жыл бұрын
I used to get so mad and upset when people try to pet her or distract her. I used to tell them can't you see the patches do not pet and do not distract. But after watching Nates video, I realized that most people do not know what a service dog is and why it is important not to distract a service dog that is working. They just think of it like another dog or a pet. And they are not.
@bdogg20101

I came into the same problem again at my doctors office. I was getting out of the car and a older lady came running over and was going to pet my service dog. I looked at her and then she saw the no pet patch. So she started to talk with my service dog and distract her. I almost lost my balance.
@bdogg20101
@bdogg20101 Жыл бұрын
I was going to correct the lady and then her daughter said that it is a service dog. But the lady had no idea what is a service dog. So I told her please, and then she interrupted me and said I am not going to pet her. I am just talking with her. So I said, that is not what I was going to say. My service dog is working and I need her to focus so I don't get hurt and fall. When you talk to her, your distracting her from working and I almost fell. I told her your not supposed to distract a service dog when they are working.

I see this is an old post, but I hope you sometimes circle back to answer this question. I noticed you use "Free" and "Break" as command to release the dog, or perhaps I am misunderstanding that there is a difference. If so, what is the difference?

Please don't buy ANY e-collars, they're animal abuse. They're just a short cut for things you can achieve through proper training, they'll only at worst make your dog nervous and aggressive. If a human got an electric shock every time they did something wrong in the eyes of their guardian, it would be considered torture. It's no different with dogs.

Would u recommend food deprivation on a 10 week old puppy to increase food drive?
@NateSchoemer
@NateSchoemer 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as you're offering the pup food each day for training, then you should be okay. Just make sure before starting this, that the pup is comfortable in their new environment. Most dogs, on average, take around two weeks for their entire personality to show. However, most can get comfortable within a few days. If they are playing, and sleeping throughout the night, then you should be good. :)

How do you instill non - mouthy play with other dogs?
@NateSchoemer
@NateSchoemer 2 жыл бұрын
I start by first teaching the dog leash pressure. Then I use the leash pressure to reinforce behaviors, such as staying, not jumping on people, and not running out the front or car door. Once I have that established, if the dog starts to become mouthy with other dogs, I use my marker that predicts leash pressure ( I use the word wrong), and then I either stop the dog from playing or redirect to a new behavior. I continue to do this every time the dog mouths another dog. You'll be amazed at how quickly the dog learns that mouthing is not an okay behavior without having to implement any corrections. Check out the videos below to learn leash pressure training as well as using it to reinforce rules and expectations. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnTFYoxua8qMeLM kzbin.info/www/bejne/iF7HdYxshrV4hKc I hope this is helpful. Thank you very much for your reply. It's just that many of my friends have poodle crosses and every once in awhile knotted ear hair/fur gets caught in teeth, causing their dogs to yelp, which in turn makes them think that my girl is being overly aggressive. I will definitely follow through with your recommendation though, as it can be used in many other instances. Have a fantastic day.
