DTV - Foreign Affairs issue this visa from overseas Consulates and then they are out of picture and once you turn up at a border or apply for an extension you deal with Immigration who come under Home Affairs and Immigration have been very quite on DTV’s. Anyway we will see how it goe’s next year when people get passed the first 180 days on this visa and have to deal with immigration.

@ Another thing about the DTV is it listed under the short term measures. So it could disappear as as fast as it appeared (See - Thailand Eases Visas Rule To Boost Economy Urgently KHAOSOD ENGLISH). Just my opinion but who but some 3rd Countries offer retirement visas to retirees on modest income. Thailand is no longer a 3rd world Country and developing fast. In the not to distant future I could see Thailand scrapping the retirement visa (but hopefully if that happened they would Grandfather those already with them) and requirements to stay long term will be more on a par with the likes of South Korea. According to the Pattaya Mail the number on retirement & marriage visas is half what what it was 20 odd years ago and the number of tourists has more than doubled. Q.Hi Les, great live stream ,I paid into the council pension scheme in the uk for approx 2 years back in the 80s. I then moved to Ireland and have been here since. Read on a recent article about topping up your contributions but this must be done by 5th April and the article mentioned paying a total of 3 k for 16years paid and thus would give you a uk pension. Have you heard about this, seems too good to be true, I don’t remember my Ni number but I’m sure they would give it to me re my old address in the uk. Thanks for any advice given.

You're doing the right thing. Keep the car for a couple of years until you have your UK pension. Then you might want a new car for your travels.

And if you are actually in Thailand, your state pension will be frozen at the level of your first payment. I suppose that means your pension will be frozen at the level you reach at 70, which will probably include the much higher level recently proposed. I was lucky to start pension at 66 years old 2 years ago, but I am thus frozen at the 2022 level. Sorry to be a bit blase about pensions at 70, but truth be told I doubt we will be able to change things. You have my sympathy!
