People talking shit about Szobo but don't acknowledge how hard he works off the ball. They also fail to acknowledge that we're top of the league and he's played in all 6 games, he's been an integral part of how we got there.

@@s0und350 lmao hello. It’s criticism more than that that’s very much toxic positivity oh wow we’re first so we can’t be critical. Just because we’re 1st doesn’t mean we can’t improve. Also I acknowledge that but he’s been poor. He hasn’t been integral in all them e.g. today or Forest. Then we can talk about other games where he’s squandered chances and final product is bad. I’ve seen said before he works hard off the ball but like I say so does Jones so does Elliot when he plays.

Not the best game, but we showed we can grind out results, which is a positive. Gravenberch our best player once again. Liked Robbo’s movement, and Jota played a key role in both goals. Wolves were a dangerous side that looked to break up our rhythm, but we controlled most of the match and kept their attackers quiet. Really shouldn’t have conceded that clusterfuck of a goal. Anyways, we move onto midweek.

Totally agree re Gravenberch, Twitter was crazy so many posts shouting for him as MOTM and I was like HUH? He pulled 3 or 4 decent moves when they were tired towards the end, (the ghosting into the penalty area without the end product was inspiring,) otherwise it was all Macallister, scrappy, hard fought annoyance and breaking down that allowed us to win. I thought Dominic, was off the pace I am waiting to see Harvey play in Slot ball (still), i thought Jota was making up for a lack of finish with industry, I felt Salah was off the boil a little but defensively at the end showed his value, even if he wasnt laser sharp in his usual arena. I felt that much as I love Trent, he was outmatched defensively a couple of times and did not run play quarterbacking in this game. Meanwhile Robbo was having a pretty blinding game, and Ibu, thanks to the goal and block towards the end made up fro allowing Wolves back into the match. All in all it was a win, with a 7/10 performance from us. Which bodes well, Winning when not playing at our top level is needed in any kind of run.

Would disagree about Macca. Thought he was rather poor this game. Dom for sure should be rotated for a couple of games but his industry is always there. Grav, Diaz, and Jota were very solid. 3pts is 3pts I guess, so let's put this one behind us and look towards CL mid-week.

O'neil had Wolves playing in a system that had us completely frustrated for the majority of the match. He's clearly an elite manager that is struggling to keep his squad locked in for a full 90 minutes. They are lacking sorely in end product, its a mjor deficiency that will see them go down if it isnt remedied. Wolves never created a clear cut chance until the horrendous lapse in communication let them back into the game. The penalty was fully justified from my view, dragging a striker down with an arm over his shoulder should always be a foul. It wasnt an enthralling performance but its one of those matches where getting the result means more than impressing the fans. I thought Grav looked very solid on the day, nothing too flashy but his composure and vision suited the roll Slot gave him. Jones and Gakpo both had impressive substitute appearances, I hope they are given starting positions for some of the upcoming fixtures. Konate was a workhorse and by far the best Pool player in the first half. Its unfortunate, but he will take the majority of the blame for the miscommunication that led to wolves equalizer. Despite that he has a huge presence and did well to support TAA on the right side as well as make some timely blocks. VVD had an underrated game as tends to be his standard these days. Slot is proving that he can be held to a high standard and we should be gunning for silverware in his first season as coach. Like you said, his brand is more conservative than Klopp's but it's enjoyable to watch in its own way (today felt as stressful as a game under the old skipper lol). I thought wolves really put on a great performance and I hope the Molyneux crowd were proud of their team. I couldn't help but feel bad for them and Mario Lemina looked gutted at the end there. Going top early on should give everyone at the club that extra boost to really kick on and make this season into something to remember.

A frustrating game like this under Klopp the last few seasons could’ve easily had this end in a draw, like you mentioned Liverpool starting grind some wins and they look a lot more comfortable in uncomfortable games that we’ve stumbled on in the last few seasons. Grav feels very Busquets esque in the way he gets the ball and does a quick turn out from an oncoming player, been really enjoying how much control the midfield has now that he’s keeping the ball so much better. We haven’t played the elite teams yet but a good look so far.

I love Jones and in these last couple of games I definitely think he's been better than Szobo in attack and progressing the ball. However, he simply can't match Szobo's work rate off the ball and energy across 90 mins; that's why Szobo has been first choice for me. That said, because of his work rate, I do think Szobo could use a bit of a rest and Jones has probably earned some more game time, so I'd like to see them rotated a bit more; that's the big strength of having a player like Jones because he can fill in for any of those three midfield roles and will always give his all in each of them. Konate for MOTM is a bit wild. The goal was great, obviously, but he was very poor for almost the entire 2nd half; misplaced passes, caught out of position, 100% at fault for the Wolves goal, etc. I love Konate, but this was a very poor game overall by his standards. Gravenberch had a pretty average performance as well, nothing special; there wasn't really any LFC player that really stood out tbh.

My frustration was the lackadaisical effort from players like Szobo and Salah in excellent positions, like when through one on one or with the goal gaping - I just have the feeling that if it was against a top tier team they wouldn't have had that lazy look about their pass or shot - so it's slightly a mental thing. In some ways it's good, as some pundits have said Liverpool had a gear or two we could have gone up, but I'd argue just go for it, not be too blasé when only one goal up etc.

I think we have a strong squad and I agree that Gary Neville's commentary and analysis was poor because I don't think they understand that Slot's setup off the ball actually makes sense and is good at frustrating opposition. I feel like most of the goals we have conceded have been individual errors or individual excellence. Which of course, over time once the team is fully up to speed with the new tactics I think we will cut out these errors. I'd like to see Harvey Elliot play that 10 role to see how he would fair in that situation.

Good to win ang congrats for the 3 points, but that was a poor performance from almost ALL the players... It was almost lethargic at certain poarts, reminded me the Forest game. Strange thing since they didn't play midweek. We should win at least 3-0 , with these big chances Sobo and Mo lost, and we should never have conceded that ridiculous goal . Too many players were below par. Too many mistakes with easy, short passes. Virgil was good, and Cody gave energy when got in.

Really enjoyed hearing your insight Laurence. There was a 5/10 period in the fast half where Wolves turned up the intensity and Wolves were playing some good stuff. Konate, Van dijk and Alisson each had to made a a clearance/aerial duel/header in close succession. They made it look easy. Watching that, my reaction was completely positive because we looked comfortable with everything. As if we were like 'okay fine we'll just defend then' and just deal will what comes effortlessly. No panic. The commentary reaction was that Liverpool were "On the ropes", what because the crowd got excited?? No mention of the defending from the ex-defender Neville. Van Dijk was sensational today and all the backline got was "horrendous defending for Wolves' equaliser" from the commentator. What happened to getting over the line when you're not at your best? Do we only deserve praise for battering teams away 4 nil? It's as if all of a sudden we are being judged against the expectation of being title winners in Slot's first season. I thought Neville had us predicted for 5th? Fact we created and wasted some massive chances (Dom, Salah counter, Salah open goal) becomes Liverpool well below par? The fact we conceded no major chances (outside the mix-up goal) becomes that Wolves just had a bad game plan? The oversimplification of their analysis is staggering. They genuinely just seem ignorant when it comes to analysis of modern tactics and when it comes to understanding what teams are trying to do. I'm not saying my analysis is incredible but it's not my literal Job. "Liverpool are only leading 1-0? they're rubbish. Wolves not creating chances? they're rubbish too." Was almost the extent of their insight. It was a fairly solid away performance that the scoreline didn't really do justice to. By all means criticise the goal conceded because it did seem like Liverpool (mainly konate) became too relaxed for a moment, but for the love of God acknowledge that Arne Slot got it right. We won the game to go top of the league, that's the story.

MY hope for this season is for the team to get into the knock out phase for UCL and to finish Top 4. What I have seen thus far has been nothing sort of fascinating and spellbinding. I am watching a team of largely Klopp disciples doing things I have never seen them do or thought they could do. The shapes and movement off the ball are all things i'm so not used to seeing a Liverpool side do. It is clear to me that Slott has a clear idea of what he wants each player and position to do and that they already have an identity which I am very pleased to see. My biggest concern? I am worried that Darwin is just not going to find a way to break into a bigger role on the team and we are going to end up selling him off. The tackle of Robbo was wild. How that wasn't a straight red was shocking. But all in all, I really have no complaints about what Slott is having our lads do.

Pundits' analysis have been atrocious. Fct of the matter is that Wolves'only real chance came from us, not them. Same story v West Ham. It was really a 2-0 game and this was borne out by the stats. We weren't great , but we were in control and deserved the 3 points.

I am a Liverpool fan, but am not over the cloud over being "top of the league" at this point of time. Liverpool had the longest period sitting at the top of the league last season, and we ended up third. October would be the tough for the boys, where the schedule is tight, and we'll be facing the hardest test of the season yet. Last night's game was a snore fest. I had more fun watching Chelsea v Brighton, and since the game started at 12.30 am where I am currently stationed, I did fall asleep a few times. And for those Liverpool fans who continuously say that the transition from Klopp to Slot is like the transition from Shankly to Paisley, please stop. I respect and love Klopp, but to compare him to the great Bill Shankly is an insult to Shankly. And Slot is very, very far away from being a second-coming of Paisley. He still has a long way to prove himself to earn that comparison. Stay humble and remain focused. Leave the arrogance to Manyoo fans and the delusion to Arsenal fans. Have a nice day.

There are a lot of good teams in this league, and the so-called easy ones aren't what you might think they are. We are going to have our work cut out against teams like Crystal Palace, Everton and Fulham, who have a few good players but are aware of their own limits. Teams like Southampton, Leicester and West ham will have a go and we have the quality to pick em off. The top 6 sides will feel they can go toe to toe with us and when we meet Chelsea, Arsenal and City we will need to give em a bloody nose so they know we mean business, but I think we are capable of doing that because we know where the danger is and we will play not only to our strength but to their weaknesses, Leicester could have gotten a win out of Arsenal had the ref actually been good and Brighton were very naive against Chelsea conceeding the sane chance 4 or 5 times , I don't think we are likely to do that.

Do LFC fans watch Arsenal and City games? These teams don't dominate their opponents for 90mins and they have been vulnerable at times in all their games, it's normal because the EPL is competitive. But somehow, LFC fans expect our opponents to just roll over and LFC win 5-0 with 100% domination. Ridiculous expectations.

Chill. It's only 8 games in. It's a work in progress, and yet we're top of the league. Are we going to win the league? Dunno but we've got a chance... I don't think we'll see the team playing the way Slott wants for another few months and if we're still in the mix by then, it's going to be exciting... Until then we're going to get games like Wolves

I think there’s room for Elliot at the 10, he lacks maybe the physicality of a Szobo but he can link up well with those front three. Wishing for his speedy recovery!! LIV are top because we haven’t played anybody who are going to punish mistakes and sloppiness. The ease of the starting schedule…has been a blessing for a new manager, this team has some issues, but I think they are fixable.

I don't like macca's first touch. In every match i see him lose a ball because of his first touch when we're in a very good position. Similar thing with szoboslai. Their defensive work is better ngl but no way they're built as attacking midfielder. Gravenberch is a defensive minded midfielder too. Off the ball they're great but with the ball they don't really do anything except backwards passes. We must get a creative world class midfielder... even if we have to spend 100m spend it. This one signing can make us favorites to win the title. We actually spend money but only buy similar quality players with a cheaper price. We don't need depth anymore, we need a world class player. Make Liverpool a dynasty so that players like mbappe, bellingham flock to liverpool not real madrid.

Short comment on why i disagree with your analysis a little: You often talk about how Liverpool feel comfortable being attacked on and "going punch for punch" etc. But surely thats only true to an extent. I agree that we often get criticized unneccessarily. People will say how our opposition "had the better chances" or whatever (that same vernacular you probably heard a lot of today), when in reality, we only conceded just a handful on shots from mostly tight angles. When watching your vids though, there will be a game when we're clearly overloaded, but you won't change up your analysis too much and you'll still say how we're happy going punch for punch. Sure, part of every posession based teams gameplan is to face counter attacs (face them successfully), but not like today (ideally)(I don't think). Now you might say that today was a classic case of where (asside from that one konate/allisson incident), we only conceded some low xG shots, most from tight angles like I said, no big chances... but I think Wolves just had 0 quality in that final ball today. They weren't great. On another day they would've punished us
