I think about that lady at Wells Fargo also, many people blame the company or her co-workers but as a work from home employee, I can see how that can happen, last time I went into my office I was the only one on my floor. She must’ve died on Friday, since she never clocked out that day. In my office, cleaning crews only come by a couple of times a week since we’re never there. It’s sad that no one in her personal life noticed right away. I live alone and think of all the same things you do. I live in a 55 plus retirement community so all the houses are pretty close but lots of my neighbors are older than me and not sure they can hear. LOL. But it's pretty safe here so I don't worry too much about crime. I don't have any kids to ask to check on me but when I get older, maybe I'll organize some kind of system with my friends. When I go up in my attic which isnt too often, I make sure I have my phone and I unlock the front door just in case I fall and have to call for help to come in my house. I try to remember to sit on the floor several times a week so I stay in practice of being able to get up off the floor. I pull weeds and do things close to the ground. I think that is a big problem with seniors, even when they aren't that old. Some people cant get up after they fall. I hope even when I'm 90, I can always get up off the floor. I don't have a ring camera or smart watch or alexa or any fancy technology. I hope to get a smart watch some day but I don't have apple so hopefully there are samsung watches. This is a great topic. So many things we can share. Oh and I know you have been hesitant to get a dog because of cost. I understand as I am a responsible pet owner. When my dog passed, life just wasn't the same so a few months later I got another dog. Iife is just so much fun with a dog but you do have to think about vet and boarding fees when you travel. I have medical insurance for her which will help with the vet bills over 500.00 and at this time it's not that expensive. For me, my dog is well worth the cost, and keeps me so much happier than a man.

Regarding that poor woman who died at Wells Fargo, agree with that other comment that what’s really sad & heartbreaking is that she seemed to have nobody in her personal life that noticed she was missing or that something was wrong. If my daughters didn’t hear from me especially if didn’t call to talk to my granddaughter in a couple of days, they would have went to my home & if I didn’t answer called the police. I'm an introvert and have lived alone for a long time. I hope to be retiring within a couple years. Since 2020, I've been feeling more isolated - both due to Covid and working from home more, and some self-imposed isolation due to needing space and time to work out emotional things I've been going through. In some ways it is welcome and gets easier with time, but I do have my concerns about being too isolated once I retire. I don't want to end up being the crazy old cat/dog lady down the street. That, and due to the fact that I'm feeling the stressors of being my sole support and not sharing the financial and household advantages of being coupled, I've been thinking more about the possibility of living in community somehow. I'm just not exactly sure what that means for me at this point. I guess in some ways I'm tired of being responsible and alone, but I also need alot of time and space and quiet to myself.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
I totally get that! It is hard being 100% responsible for yourself. Some type of community might be a great option for you! I always though it would be fun to have a community of friends each with their own tiny house. Then you have yor own space but you have people near if you want to socialize! ☺

I love that you made this video.. As I am long term married, it is not one I fully relate to. But it is an important. one. My mother, who was also a teacher for a long time, seems in many ways similar to you. While her family was so important to her, she did tell me that she doubted that she could ever live with another. Unfortunately she did fall in her apartment. And had to climb up stairs to call us. But she did. I might recommend getting a couple of internet cameras in your home that your children could use to check up on you. Discuss it with them and see what they think. I myself seem to be more introverted than my wife. So I do understand the enjoyment of alone time. (Like time when I write these comments) But In may ways I do think we would be lost without each other. So how was cancun?

I, like you, am an introvert. I love being alone but I can and do engage with other people. It's just that too many people are physically exhausting. Somehow, I survived the army, lol When my folks were alive, I moved them into my home to watch over them and they had the life alert things...which were useless. It is far better to simply have a phone with you .BUT my Mom had dementia and couldn't use a phone and got so she couldn't even use the button. I asked her once what she would do if she saw me laying on the floor and I wouldn't wake up. She said: "I would get you a blanket"....letting me know that her dementia made calling for assistance not exist in her world. As I get older, I may invite some other elderly woman to move in, unless I get married. It would allow us both freedom but also someone to notice if you are missing or ill. I have a dog who makes me get out and walk her...good for her and good for me. Around my house I do have motion lights/cameras and at the doors I have camera light bulbs that track anyone near the doors. They use an SD card along with sending alerts so, you have the recording if needed.

Yes I agree about the life alert things! I may get a smart watch you can call or text from when I'm older. Then as long as I'm wearing it I can call someone. My dad had Alzheimer's. It is so hard to watch your parents go through that. It sounds like you have a good plan! ☺

For personal safety, I have an alarm system and a byrna that shoots pepper spray and teargas from up to 60ft away. It can incapacitate an intruder for up to 20 minutes allowing you enough time to get away. Perfect for people who do not want any firearms in their homes.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
That's awesome! I've never heard of a byrna before. Love learning all these things! 😀

I enjoy living alone. I am 67 and not quite as mobile and am afraid of falling and not being able to get up. I have a smart watch that detects a hard fall and if you don’t turn it off will contact 911. I think I have to have my phone close enough though,and if you get up fast enough it doesn’t go off. I have fallen 2x where the watch asked if it should contact 911., once in a grocery store massive water puddle and once tripping on the curb at the mall. The watch gets me jumping up faster so that 911 doesn’t show, probably don’t have to worry though. I don’t think 911 really works anymore.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
My friend has a watch like that too! So you have to be near your phone? Like if you go outside and your phone is inside will it work? Thanks!!🙂
@leisure057blank3Ай бұрын
@@HappyonMonday there is cellular or gps Apple Watch. I got mine gps because I didnt want to pay extra for cell plan for the watch. I always thought it would do emergency stuff bit a few months back I thought I read somewhere online that a gps watch could only work if your phone is nearby. (For the hard fall). Now when I look I can’t see that it says that. I would clarify with an Apple Store though. A lot of people at Best Buy won’t understand well enough I don’t think. I bought mine at Costco but the apple store always has classes an$ stuff.

I'm not interested in being a "purse or nurse" either 😀. I'm okay being alone. I love the peace and quiet. Not having to answer to anyone is also a plus. I am divorced and been single for a while now. I have adult children and we speak everyday. We decided to do that on purpose because I live alone and so do my adult children.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
I also love the peace and quiet! I talk to my kids a lot, but I need to check in on a daily basis. ☺

I love your line “I don’t want to be someone’s nurse or purse!”. I must remember that one 😂 Although I love my alone time, I do love being social and couldn’t cope without being around family and friends. Maybe a dog is the way forward…something that loves you unconditionally and doesn’t moan at you if you haven’t loaded the dishwasher 10 minutes after dinner 😉

I'm planning on it! I really miss having a fur baby! 🐕
@lizadivine3785Ай бұрын
I lost my last fur baby in May and will not get another. I will die eventually and who would take it? Vet bills are INSANE and getting worse. If you want to travel most people have to pay to have some one watch their pet and that's expensive. And dogs hate being boarded. It's very stressful on them. So for me it's a NO but i sure loved them when i had them!

Yes, I've gone back and forth. If I travel I'm hoping to have one of my adult children watch a fur baby for me. I just miss having a pet! ☺

Hi, Julie! Great video! I live alone, and I like it just fine. I had a dog for many years, and as he got older, it did become more difficult to board him when I wanted to go somewhere. But now that he's gone, if I want to get on a plane somewhere, I get on it. In fact, I found a good deal on Travelocity and tomorrow I'm going to Mexico City for three weeks. I'll take my little travel fiddle with me and I'll walk around, see the sights, play the fiddle, and that's about it. Eventually I'm going to be done traveling, and when that time comes, my plan is to buy a house and a dog. Yep.

My wife died in 2017 and I don't think I will ever marry again. The problem is that I am still in love with her. It would not be fair for me to marry someone else while I am in love with my wife. Sometimes, I sit in my living room and I just think. But it's not even a daydream. It's like you are riding a horse and you drop the reigns, give 'er a kick and say, "Giddy-up!" So I can imagine doing that and eventually my mind drifts to my former wife and then my new wife walks in and says, "What are you thinking about." Well, I can't lie to her, because that would be wrong. But if I told her I was thinking about my former wife, that would surely hurt her feelings. Besides which I am at the age where medical problems start to creep in. I would hate to burden someone if I got some bad medical problem. So I figure it is better for me to remain single. But I am OK with that. As far as marrying the wrong person, there is a proverb, "Marry in haste, repent at leisure."
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
I think it's OK to marry someone new even if you still love your wife. There is enough room in your heart for more than one person! The right person would understand that you still keep her in your heart. If she's a widow she may still have someone in her heart too. If the right person comes along don't be closed off to it. Just be honest with her. All people our age have medical problems! ☺

supplement your income being a dog walker
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
Maybe! 😄
@ArmyVetlady-m6kАй бұрын
Dog walking and pet sitting gig apps are really an actual way to supplement your income and at the same get personal satisfaction from being with furry friends. There are also animal rescue shelters and adoption centers that you can volunteer at to help clean cages, socialize with pets and walk /feed them too. Another option if anyone doesn’t want to invest in getting a dog or cat. I sent my single coworker who is anticipating retiring in a few years the top pet care gig job apps (flexible hours and decent pay), so she can assess if it’s something she may desire doing, since she loves dogs and doesn’t want to own another after two of her dogs passed away the past few years.

I am retired and live alone. No one is going to take of you if you come down with cancer like I did this year. I was fortunate to have people to take care of me. By the way all of us will eventually get sick. Be careful about the nurse and the purse comment. Have a care team.
