Hey BostonTrucker...what an awesome video this is...so smooth, so informative...I feel like I'm right there. I remember Dave from previous videos...what a great guy to "hang with". How fortunate you are to know him as you do, especially dating back to your "Bud Meyer days". When you asked him (in so many words), "What does it take to drive a truck like this?", his reply "common sense...know your limitations (straight out of "Dirty Harry" BTW!!)...know where your trailer is at all times" sums it up, perfectly, in one tight package. Western Stars get better and better with every turn of the calendar...we have a Star dealer here on Long Island (Aptico)...best in the business. Thanks, so much Mike...as always.

Those ARI sleepers are awesome. Been in them many times at the truck shows. They are definitely a must if you want to live on the road and do a specific job that allows for the length of 300” or more. Plus at 25,000 pounds for the tractor only weight is a huge issue. It’s amazing he has a reefer with that weight. Probably around 35,000 empty. Beautiful ride for sure 😎🤟

Really enjoyed this. What a truck! If I had to be OTR, I'd be jealous of all these condominium sleepers. Western Star makes a fine looking machine, too. And having done 200k in a 2020 Cascadia with the Detroit DD15 and DT12 automatic, I'm totally cool with that powertrain. Strong and reliable if treated well. Only problems I had in the Cascadia were auxiliary stuff -- broken pedal valve for the brakes and a power steering leak happened pretty much when it was brand-new (fixed under warranty), then an annoying electronic gremlin that would make the AC stop blowing cold until the truck was shut down and restarted. Suspected a problem with the control panel in the sleeper. Didn't stay long enough to see the problem solved as I moved on to a better job. But you won't see me say much negative about Freightliner or Western Star.

Not to make anybody mad, these trucks cost more than I've made in 50+years Trucking. It 's a good video Mike, but only Millionaires could ever own and maintain trucks like these . Still appreciate the video Mike, thanks!
@TheBostonTrucker
@TheBostonTrucker 2 жыл бұрын
No one's mad here. Every truck in this video is a company truck and I believe they go for around 250K. Usually, truckers who drive trucks like these specialize in what they haul, they're not just hauling general freight as does this company. Specialized hauling pays a lot more plus when a driver drives a truck like this, they're more apt and probably expected to stay out on the road for many more weeks than the average driver which earns the truck more money.

Normally husband and wife teams hauling specialized freight. Classic cars,govt defense loads,computers,house hold moves. Hard to haul general freight. Your not going to any of the City markets in a truck like that or haul heavy freight.

@@richardsavoie1073 I sure never have. Every one I ever ran with and talked to have all been very professional. The wife and I were thinking about it when our children were old enough but we had a son born with cerebral palsy.I took a local job and now my wife does CAT scan at a hospital. He’ll be with us forever.

Bro you new age drivers is the only ones that cant back, we old heads can drive anything, back anything and do it under any circumstances because back 15yrs ago or farther, when you went to big customers, 20 drivers could be standing outside talking and if you took 30 min to hit a hole, you had 20 drivers talkn cash sh-t and a customer that was pissed off you was holding his dock up..and you was gonna either learn how to back or quit trucking. Alot of yall would have gotten banned because you can't back up your unit.🤷‍♂️ And the fact you would even be concerned with backing means you ain't that good at it🤣😂 Hell all we want to know is what can you haul in a reefer or van and stay profitable..🤷‍♂️ Aint nobody worried about backing no damn truck😂🤣🤯

@@richardgibson4757 well old timer I can back a truck up and been doing it for years and been in alot of tight places also just can't figure our why ppl want to get big fancy stretch truck to tear it up trying to get into a dock and it's funny when ppl bitch and moan about new generation of drivers can't do this or that but it's been proven most of the stupid crap that happen out on the road in trucking industry is caused by the so damn called experienced drivers bc they got this idea in their heads I done it all and I have been everywhere and it's truly sad when it's the experienced drivers giving the trucking industry the bad look to the general public and its funny how the older experienced drivers are the ones who want to blame the new generation of drivers for the way trucking industry is now day with all the regulations but in frigging reality it's the experienced drivers that screwed up the regulations and still continue to screw it up bc they don't or want to follow the damn regulations so government still puts new ones into place but nope drivers and companies don't want to follow them but then blame everyone else for them not properly making a plan and follow that plan so got off ur frigging high horse and just take some responsibility for ur actions and maybe trucking become a decent industry again

@@garyroach3479 you have a new drivers conversation as well🤣😂 and statistics don't support your opinion..but i heard the same things when i started 20yrs later( accident free) its the young drivers rolling over, running into bridges using GPS and this happens because of decision making errors.. When you have experience as a man you don't make the same choices you did in your younger days. This goes for life as well..and we experience drivers don't blame you kids for nothing because we don't talk about yall silly dood😂🤣 we don't care what yall do, and we want you to have a long life and successful careers. Old school hands are layed back, we just bust your ballzand make you blame us old heads for yallz bad accident records 😁😛 Just make sure you stay safe and accident free hand./driver 🙏

You need to get a Logitech Harmony remote they have a color digital touch screen on them and can control every single digital thing in the truck and at home with one remote. They're 2 to $400 new however I live in the Boston area and have one that I've never used I can give you for free if you would like to meet up
