In this vanlife Spain video, we visit the area of Jaca and Aínsa on our quest to live completely off the grid in the Spanish Pyrenees mountains. With ever-changing unpredictable weather, we had to keep moving as we went looking for our perfect spot in the mountains.

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

BEANS OUT!

We went to New Mexico, with a reservation for a week at a nice quiet inn that friends of ours were relatives of the owner, but the tenant in our room was refusing to move out, because she wanted to go to the healing springs every day! The owner promptly found us a B&B that was within a ative Pueblo, and it turned out to be an incredible place had once been owned by the actor Anthony Quinn. It was now an Arabian horse farm. There was an outdoor pool and huge covered patio with full kitchen, a sunken living room with a big fireplace, and several different sized guest rooms for singles to families of 6. Full delicious breakfast every morning and so close to Santa Fe and many other pueblos for our explorations. Best time EVER!

The ruins of the church we're so beautiful!!! One of my most favourite parts of our Spain trip, was coming upon an old fortress, while driving in the South! It was still in pretty good condition, you could climb up into the towers and walk along the walls and there was a sign telling of the history. Out in the country and back from the main road, we wouldn't have known about it, if we hadn't turned off to photograph the field of sunflowers and seen the top of it in the distance. 💛

In 2005, my girlfriend and I took my 1988 Ford Ranger with a camper shell 2500 miles around Mexico. There were some mishaps, but many times they led to something wonderful. We decided we wanted to go to Bahia Asuncion 9why not?), a tiny town on the west coast of Baja, to hike and surf. At the time there was no paved road, only 45km of back-crushing washboard dirt. My truck was not 4WD and had terrible suspension, but we braved it anyway. Well... we busted a shock mount, got a flat tire and overheated all in the first 20km. My girlfriend wanted to turn around, but I am stubborn as hell and we pressed on. Once we got there -- tired, sore, and frustrated -- we found welcoming, generous people, incredible beaches, great food, and surfing and hiking to die for. And we got the truck fixed on the cheap by a mechanic who invited us to his house for dinner and got us drunk. It was one of our best stops. Done on a whim. That started reeeeaaaly poorly. I have about 20 other stories just like that from the trip. Thanks for doing. Love the channel.

My idea of off grid camper vans in the mountains is having my inner spring mattress, infinite hot water for showers, and infinite 73°F heating! I think you looking for the word "Frittata" it's a cross between a crust-less quiche and an omelette. They're pretty good. Have a good week! Stay warm and dry! Blessed Be!

Great views of the Pyrenees especially the drone footage. In mid February we were travelling down to Eastern Spain via the A75 in France when we were diverted off by the Gendarmes due to the Spanish farmers blocking the route down to Girona. To make things worse there were hundreds if not thousands of lorries parked up on the motorway and it filtered down to one lane and it took 2 hours to travel 7 kilometres. The gendarmes then blocked every exit off the autoroute until we approached Carcassonne so we then had no choice but to head off in the direction of Foix and cross the Pyrenees. We made it as far as a municipal camp site just south of Foix and stayed there the night before continuing our journey across the Pyrenees skirting round Andorra. We were somewhat apprehensive as we wondered whether we would get through due to snow but in a way the farmers did us a favour as the journey across the Pyrenees was amazing, stunning scenery and amazing tunnels and fortunately no snow only on the high peaks.

It's so nice when a last minute change of plans works out! In college we had a fall break and we're supposed to work on architectural sketches. A few friends and I headed to Berlin with plans to continue north. It was so cold and rainy that it was near impossible to sketch outside. We had flexible train passes so we headed south. Ended up having a great time in Austria and Italy with plenty of warmer and sunny spots to see new sights and also get our school work done. It seems so nice with van life to be able to change plans similarly and not have to continue on a route just because you planned to do it. Lovely freedom! Love your videos and appreciate you're willing to share pieces of your lives with us.

Spain is full of pretty villages like this. As for the Pyrennes. Unless you are doing sking best time to visit is June to October. Many of the passes do not open until June. We live in Spain and we spent the summers of 2020/1 during covid here out of the way. We love the high mountain passes and the ski resorts, which are empty in summer.

So quick little travel hack for mud/general slush, I went to uni in Upstate New York and had to deal with both all the time especially during spring, and what really helped for backing up my car was Cat Litter (I'd keep a bag in my car at all times during winter and spring)- it sounds so weird but if you're ever having a little bit of difficulty backing up or are stuck in either of those two things sometimes sprinkling a little bit behind the wheels gives you just enough traction to get some momentum up to get unstuck. Obviously doesn't work for complete quagmires or swamps but like a parking lot where it snowed overnight and then started to melt the next day 🤷‍♀Love seeing all your adventures and thank you so much for sharing with us!

On summer break from college in Texas, I would drive east and north to Washington DC for an internship. Going thru the Blueridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains, I turned off into a little town in North Carolina and made a wrong turn. Into a local July 4th Independence Day parade. Yes, we’re naughty colonists 😅. I found myself waving and honking to the lovely Carolinians, and when I drove past the grandstands the Mayor welcomed this California boy on the microphone from seeing my plates.
