The big deal is that they initially claimed there was 100 times less than there actually was. People are sick of being lied to. It's as simple as that. A good company will not lie to their customer. We take what we consume very seriously and this is completely unacceptable.

Not only that, but theres TWICE the amount of maltodextrin per packet than there is potassium?! That is such a stupid ratio of ingredients. Clearly done for profit motive and taste. There are several natural sweeteners available, yet they choose one that has been shown to significantly impact blood sugar and possibly harm the gut. They need to get with the times, and consider another natural sweetener like allulose. (none of this is intended to be health advice)

The controversy is that they dont list the maltodextrin as an ingredient, they put it in under the natural flavors. Why hide it? Just list it as many other companies do. Thats how I see it anyway. Now it appears that they were putting one over on people rather than just being honest and listing it in the ingredients.

The big deal for me is that 1) I’m on a Carnivore Diet and from all of the investigating that I have done about sugars and the toxic chemicals food manufacturers put into our food, MALTODEXTRIN IS THE WORST SUGAR, period. On my packets of LMNT it says they have STEVIA not MALTODEXTRIN. It’s just as bad as companies adding sugar to bacon, or smokies. Why do they have to add sugar to meat products? Edit: 3:20 you mention your product does in fact contain maltodextrin. Missed that the first time around. My theory was mostly correct. Do you put that on the label though? If not your product is just as misleading. I don’t believe I saw that last time I purchased your electrolytes. Mike, I usually love your content. But this is wayyyyy out of touch. You’re talking like the average consumer is supposed to just *know* this contains maltodextrin. I certainly didn’t. There was also some definite condescension in your words too. Not a good look. Why does it have to be sprayed on maltodextrin? That’s a question you could have answered. Not only that, but they claimed it had some minuscule amount, but turned out to actually be 100x what they claimed. So there’s actually more maltodextrin than Mg. I think we can all agree the general public would consider this a “dodgy” ingredient. If it’s so wholesome and pure, list it. Don’t be a little b*tch and hide it behind “natural flavors”. Do your products contain maltodextrin? That’s literally the only reason I can see your response being this way. Unless you’ve been paid by them in the past, which you note that you haven’t. The “C’mon guys, it’s not THAT bad!” schtick comes across like you’re nervously sitting on the sidelines waiting for someone to find that in yours too.

The issue for me, they told us before it was 4mg of maltodextrin to find out it's actually .4g of maltodextrin. They did a 3rd party test, found out it's the 100x more, they did post this inside a blog post about natural flavors. Instead of posting it for all to see on the front page. That's the issue I have.

@@ryanharvey6375 Robb Wolf told me via Twitter a few months ago that LMNT had 4mgs so now that they say it's .4g it's why some of us are so upset. He told us that LMNT had 1tsp of maltodextrin over about 1,000 packets, now it's 1tsp over 10-20 packets. This matters especially for people who need to be in therapeutic levels of ketosis for serious reasons (e g. Heart disease, cancer, etc.). It's possible for even these small amounts of maltodextrin to kick a person out of ketosis (or significantly reduce ketosis) because it may provoke an insulin response. It's not a small matter when someone needs to maintain a certain level of ketones in the blood for serious reasons. This product may be sabotaging people's efforts to become more healthy who are very ill. I'm disappointed in how you seem clueless about this. You often seem to have little awareness of what's going on in the low carb/keto/carnivore space outside your own particular silo. See the video by Dr. Boz for more explanation of this issue with LMNT. BTW, regular consumers have no idea that "natural flavors" means that flavoring compunds are sprayed onto maltodextrin. That you seem to think this should be common knowledge shows you are out of touch.

The ingredients list might read more accurately in this order: Sodium, Maltodextrin, Potassium, Magnesium, stevia, natural flavours. Also it is interesting to note that 1 packet has 6 grams of which only 1.3 grams are the electrolytes, leaving 4.7 grams (80 %) for natural flavours, sweetness and bulk fillers ??. I think the bigger question is what other ingredients might we find in these ‘natural flavours’ used in most electrolyte powders and keto products on the market.

I add flavored creatine to my workout water along with it because my creatine supplier sent me the apple flavored by mistake (similar green packaging) and I can take that maltodextrin hit in my workout water. I used to use the unflavored creatine and add berry and beetroot powder to taste with a little honey. I prefer my homemade mix but the flavored creatine is convenient for sure

There are more maltodextrin than magnesium and potassium per serving and this is a starch that spikes glucose levels more than taking straight up sugar. Lying about food ingredients screws with people's health. It IS a big deal. It is a very aggressive carbohydrate. It has a higher glycemic value than sugar, which is an impressive feat. You seem to be very frantically defending it. Way too much push. Offensive and not balanced. Some people want NO carbs and especially NO sugars. My diet is my diet. No negotiation. Unsubscribing.

Here's the thing. I'm on carnivore as I'm working through inflammation management, and I'm trying to avoid artifical stuff. I suspect maltodexterin to be causing a pyrric effect on my immune system, mostly because it is absolutely F-ing everywhere. So when I look into products that are supposed to be natural and devoid of these substances, that's a primary selling point for me, not a secondary. The entire point of buying the product is this. If you have lied to me regarding this primary selling point, you have scammed me. You have broken our contract and I have a stock I need refunding. You have basically sold me food by saying there was no peanuts in it and I am allergic to peanuts. This is a proper case for liability and punitive damages. End of story.

maltodextrin spikes insulin higher than any other carb. They started putting it in our kraft peanut butter up here in canada as a filler, so if you are aiming for a keto or close to keto diet than this is important. maltodextrin is also in a lot of vitamins, which is much less of a deal.

You jad a very mixed message in this. You say you understamd and then that you don't, that people should have known, what do people expect etc etc. Its not actually common knowledge. So try not to be condescending the next time when not common knowledge comes up considering the nature of your channel. I like you and your content usually this isnt an issue. The ratios of electrolytes for this product are pretty pathetic. Most people get more sodium than anything else, and not enough potassium or magnesium. Mike, You really touched a nerve here with your curiously snarky and dismissive tone. Really one of the more bizarre nutritional commentaries by an otherwise widely respected voice. I think you really should listen to what your long time supporters are saying here and do a second take on this LMNT issue. What Rob did was, by any measure, deceptive if not wholly dishonest. Moreover, it involved the use of an ingredient that many of us do not want to ingest. It really is not your right to say to those of us who feel duped “Hey folks, stop getting your panties in a bundle. It’s not that much maltodextrin and anyways you ding-a-longs should have know it was in there.” As it stands, I’ve lost faith in your advice after several years of following your videos. And I won’t, at this point, consider your alternative electrolyte because frankly given your dismissive tone it makes me think you may be hiding ingredients as well. I hope you reconsider your ill tempered initial response. Not a good look for you or your company.
