The dimple or mark on the side of the hull is from the sensor on their pressure testing barrels... I have a bunch of rifle brass like that from when I worked at Barnes. It all shoots fine.

Our 410’s are full choke, slugs would be pretty inaccurate out of them but a round ball should be fine and dandy.

@@leonardcavaretta905 I was referring to solid projectiles like a bullet, not a foster slug. Foster slugs through a .410 definitely benefit from a full choke.

Both of our 410’s are full choke which would lead to bad accuracy but my uncle has a mossberg 500 in 410 I’ll see if he will let me borrow it. It’s got interchangeable chokes.

The dimple in the hull comes from where the shell was previously pressure tested. I buy them all of the time. The dimple does not affect the hulls.

Both of our 410’s have full chokes which leads to terrible accuracy with slugs, but we have loaded and shot 410 buckshot on the channel before.

Why didn't you use any buffer in the shot to help with the pattern. Also have you tried loading any tungsten alloy shot in .410?

No tss yet, and because this load is already pretty high pressure. Adding buffer would increase the weight this increasing pressure. If I had h110 powder buffer would be fine.

Last time i checked , here in Florida , we have to use #2 or greater loads for turkey so for me looks like Daisy BBs , but what are the chances some game warden is going to disassemble my rounds to see I'm following rules , mind you I'll most likely be hunting on Gov't land ? Turkey hunting aside , in the past i had thought about using rifle and handgun bullets in place of normal ammo due to the rounds for deer hunting aren't either available or are expensive and some of those rounds i remembered were .41 mag and i believe an older rifle round that is either no longer existing or is rare and i believe it is something like 405 Jeffries , I'm bad at not annotating my findings . I don't have loading equipment and don't really plan on buying any but at first i wasn't sure if it was safe so i had decided to do it similar to muzzleloaders in which it involved raming an projectile down the barrel and using an blank round or an round with a very light load to propel the projectile out the barrel . But if i do get loading equipment do you think rifle and/or handgun rounds loaded with a projectile would be safe to use and how effective would they be from an smooth bore .410 ?

You can use any pellet smaller then number 2 for turkey not bigger than number 2. It's mostly for safety to another hunter that my get hit.

You should be able to use normal shot sizes mine, #2 shot is huge and almost never offered in turkey loads. Daisy bb’s would destroy your barrel.

Another great video. I mainly shoot clays with 20ga & 12ga, but recently bought a 410 for my grandkids (& me) to shoot. It's harder to hit clays with a 410, but once I could, going back to 20 & 12ga felt like cheating (too easy). I started out shooting 2.5" 410, but now shoot mainly 3". I reload both 2.5" & 3" 410 shells with 209 primers, 16gr H110, the red WAA41 wads & #8.5 shot (0.5oz & 11/16oz). I've never been able to get 3/4oz into the 3" 410 shells like you did. I wonder if it's due to your less powder charge ?

You gotta use lil gun for it, it takes up less space than h110 does and requires less powder.

You should be able to get 3/4oz to fit any 3” hull with h110. Wins and Rems might be the toughest to fit as they have smaller capacities. But I get 3/4oz loads with win296 (h110 and win296 are the exact same powder, and interchangeable) in every hull I load. Winchesters, Remingtons, Fiocchi’s, Cheddites and Federals. The federals have the largest capacity of the 410 hulls and will even fit 13/16oz, which ive worked up a load for. With feds, fio’s and cheds, I load cheddite primers(cx2000), 15gr of win296, and the waa410hs wad. The rems and wins, you need to back of a grain or grain and a half, for pressure and fit.

You can fit more than 3/4 ounce in the Remington 3” hulls too honestly.

@@theshotgunscientists possibly, ill have to try and see if 13/16oz will fit them also, but what I’ve noticed with the rems is they show pressure at way lower velocities than the other hulls. The feds are my favorite, largest capacity and im getting 1150fps with a 3/4oz load in my 18.5” rossi. They’re about 1200fps in my stevens 301T(26”). The 13/16oz in the federals is right at 1100fps in the rossi. 300mp is another great powder for these heavy 410 loads, similar charge weights as win296

Your video on 410 really brings out technique, having a Mec 600 (pre 1982) all steel for 410 and 12 I will tell you that the little pea shooter can be a pain. Nice job love that taper crimp from 3d thinking about just ordering one and doing all my 410 that I have loaded , otherwise than can chamber sometimes a bit snug. Hit the jackpot the other day found some Alladin 410 powder , bought 2 pounds, normally I use WW296. Thankyou. guys

@@theshotgunscientists If you get a chance to try a roll crimp made by GAEP (brass) please do, You can cut 1/4 inch off of regular once fired hulls and do a roll crimp, I could not believe how beautiful they came out. I also have a roll crimper from Ballistic Products, it is good and adequate but the brass one really does a nice job.

You have inspired me to start reloading shot shells. I got my new lee load all 2 last week and a large box of federal paper 12ga hulls. My goal is to load some squirrel and rabbit loads for this years small game season. Do you have any suggestions for good loads with 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 oz of 6 shot? What wads and powder do you recommend? Thanks!

Cheddite primers, Winchester WSF powder, mg42 wads and 20 gauge 1/4” felt wads. You can get everything from ballistic products besides maybe the powder, they might have it in stock currently not sure. Everything else is in stock. If not go to your local sporting goods store or call them and ask if they have it. It’ll do both loads great. Hodgdons website has free load data for the powder, but since you’re new to reloading, load 1-2 grains less powder than what the load calls for and use the mg42 wad instead of the listed wad. Doing this will keep pressures in safe ranges. Listed powder charges are usually the max charge but not always. I’ll do a video covering this soon.

@@outdoorswithroostercurrie6984 Gaep or omv 28 gauge crimp starter, ribassatore, and omv 28 gauge crimp finisher. 3/4” to 7/8” rubber expansion plugs about 1” in height with a steel washer to screw crimp tools to and they’ll slide up in the crimp tubes of the press. Is 10-13K psi capable of "moving" primer metal? It takes 65-70K psi to move rifle primers. Maybe there is a difference in metallurgy of the cups. Just something I've always wondered about. A fun 410 load for me is what I call 410 Barnswallow. It uses #10 Magnum shot at about 1100 fps. Fairly new (5 years) shotshell reloader here. Been enjoying your vids. Thanks!

Yeah with Shotshells people claim there are never any pressure signs but they most certainly do get them. The brass will bubble around the rim, primer will be completely flat with the firing pin mark starting to flow back into the firing pin hole, extractors will rip through rims on semi autos, brass will crack or split

Man do i wish someone could do a real accurate and heavy 410 slug for deer hunting. The current slugs available work, but you gotta keep shots real close. Just alwayscseemed there waa potential to make the little 410 at least as goodcas a 357 magnum or better.

@@theshotgunscientists I know they make quite a few .358 diameter rifle bullets that might work. Not sure what kind of velocity your looking at, but anything designed for the old 35 Remington should perform nicely at its intended 2k fps muzzle vel with 180 to 200 grain bullets. Wanna say 1-16 twist rate was common, so I'm not sure if/how your gonna do that. I know there has got to be at least a few companies that make a 410 rifled choke, and I would sure be interested to see what kind of results you get. I only hope you use a good scope, solid rest, and accurate gun, because I was very interested in this very thing a few years ago, but a lot of things I've read said it was a pain in the ass to get 410 to perform like a rifle. I will see if I can dig up anything from emails.

@@anonymousf454 if you join the buck and slug reloaders group on Facebook you’ll see the video before it’s live on here. We just used joshes fixed full choke single shot, I hit the 4” steel plate at 42 yards first shot. At about 8 yards both of us had really good groups and they seemed to be flying true for the most part. This weekend we will be testing them for longer range accuracy from the lead sled. Depending on bullet weight we got 1546 fps and 1275 fps.
