Being vintage myself and having lived through the years between 1947 and now, it’s important to remember women found the clothing comfortable and pretty. Same for the makeup real women wore, I.e. not magazine cover! High heels were not everyday wear. Flats were definitely what would have been worn with the blue skirt.

I feel like a good piece of timeless jewelery is a string of pearls. I feel like that's what would have made the blue skirt outfit. Love them all and I freaking adore both pairs of pants; I need some paper bag pants!

I agree and I bought my first string of faux pearls from a bridle shop. I also got my faux pearl earrings from Walmart. And I wear these a ton. I also got other faux pearl necklaces at charity shops and boot sales.

Lotte a lot of women (from what I’ve seen and heard) would also wear fake pearls. Much cheaper. I can’t afford a proper string of pearls, so I just wear the fake ones I’ve picked up thrift shopping. Same with fake pearl earrings. And pearls (even the fake ones) go with just about everything, so they were a great couple of dollars spent.

Haha this is basically how I started dressing the way I do! Back in 2009 I challenged myself to wear skirts for a week in dead winter (which is rainy season here) and I just never stopped. And back then, EVERYONE around me wore jeans and tees, and that was the "in" style, so I felt so conspicuous. This video made me itch to make another style video, I haven't in a while! And those red trousers are AMAZING on you! And the Tuesday outfit is so pretty!

I tend toward neutrals, earth tones, and the basics myself (plus some tweed and wool. I love me a good tweed waistcoat!). I also am not a fan of the more rockabilly style. I did start out wearing items that were a bit more rockabilly, but as I’ve gotten older, I definitely have moved toward more of a late 40s librarian vibe in my preferred style. I find Rachel Maksy great for inspiration, mostly because my preferred style is so similar. And I also love The Closet Historian, for inspiration regarding more blacks and how to coordinate accessories. Also, for how to sew basic vintage style pieces. That’s super helpful!

My vintage jewelry are all hand me downs from passed loved ones. One of my favorite pieces is a gold heart necklace from the 1930s that I inherited from my great-grandmother who was born in the 1910s :) I just found this channel and I love it!

It was a dream of mine to dress like this in high school (2001-05), but there weren’t affordable sites like that to get clothes at. Once in a great while I’d find a thrifted skirt or top, but that was a rarity! And I’d have to alter it quite a lot. So glad you linked the site!

Love the first outfit best. Stunning. The red dress was wonderful as well. I really didn't like the brown trousers to be honest. Loved the makeup but it isn't actually that typical of the era, it was more like glamour makeup than everyday makeup. Love your hair and the glasses changes

You can get vintage looking jewery at the flea market ect. I would suggest starting out with a simple pearl necklace in my opinion the almost go with every period, also finding some fun broaches could make youre outfits feel younger especially anything animal shaped Iove this formate I would love to see more

Also don’t worry about dressing rockabilly because in reality rockabilly was a subculture not the main stream of fashion. As was the “school girl” look. Well done on the clothing choices, with the trousers the shoe options back then were fun and comfortable. Such as the classic saddle shoe, I'm not a fan of the regular black and white ones. Years ago I bought some tan and navy Bass Saddle Oxfords that I adore. I use to wear the black and white and got way more attention then I wanted. Wedged heels (I no longer wear heels) or flat sandals that strap to the ankle look great. And so does a pair of Keds Trainers. I have a no name brand in the color red that I wear. And also PF Flyers trainers in black work great too. I got a no name brand and wear them a lot. And I also wear a pair of Mary Jane flats. I even got three pairs of no name brand Converse Chuck Taylors. In the colors black, pink, and light blue. I wear these shoes often as well, with my patterned skirts and sometimes with my patterned dresses. Oh, just a tip on the eyeliner. In the 1920s-1940s the winged eyeliner was not a trend. Tiny winged liner did not began until the middle 1950 and the tail got longer and more dramatic in the 1960s. This was wonderful news for me since I can not do the winged liner no matter how many times I've tried. Plus for me I found it time consuming. For vintage hair it can be tricky. Like you, I too tend to stick with wearing solid colors. It does not attract to much attention. I do wear more colors though, red, blue, and pink. Its only these three colors and a few printed items. Four dresses with prints and 5 skirts with prints. That I have in my wardrobe. Also due to my job I can wear T-shirts. For this I do wear fan T-shirts. With logos from Classic Car show events I've gone to or ones from my favorite music/bands. I should also look into getting some solid colored T-shirts. That I can make look vintage by adding a string of pearls or a crocheted lace color pinned at the neck.
