I feel this video is a bit oversimplified/promotional. I would like to have one but correct me if I'm wrong: 1. The clearances are critical. There are two of them -- first clearance between centre pin and the ratchet, second is the clearance between the ratchet once installed. There is no mention on what to do if they are not in spec as it could be catastrophic. I assume you need to find the correct shim or grind it down? 2. Once everything is installed as per specification, there is no mention of noise generated during operation of this locker. As they are locked when driven/loaded and need to coast around corners to allow the ratchet to "disengage" and hence generated clicking

I'm in the middle of fitting one to my front diff on my RC Colarado (=2008 DMax). I got instructions with the Lokka. And I have a manual for my car. And I found a pdf instruction on line from 4WD Systems. I had to wait till one of my kids moved out from home before I could get space in our garage. Beforehand I read the instructions and used the manual to help work out how to get the front axles out so I could get the diff out. This work took me about 4 days part time. My front axle has an ADD - where the LH wheel stops getting driven when in 2WD. Which means the diff sits stationary in 2WD. So the Lokka only has any impact in 4WD. I did the fit up to the diff centre and couldn't make the required gaps. I have 1.0mm thick thrust washers in the diff. I've sent them out to get them ground down to 0.8mm each which I think should get me back in spec. Hopefully I'll get the washers back and everything will go back together over the next few days.

I watched a video of a guy doing a Nissan R50. Not super hard but not as easy as they make it sound either. All his clearences were within spec. But yeah, what if they aren't?
@humanresources35452 жыл бұрын
@@RippSnortin You have to change the thickness of the washers. In my car I had mine machined down from 1.0mm (OEM washers) to 0.8 to 0.7 till they fitted and I met the shaft to spacer and cam to cam gap specs. The auto lokka specs don't say whether they should be measured dry or oiled. I did both. I then assembled (oiled) the lokka in the diff and still was OK with the cam to cam gap spec.

I had a front lokka fitted by a pro differential/gearbox shop in my 99 Delica. My concern is on any turning it makes ungodly clunking almost like my cv is lodged partly loose.

I recently ordered a Lokka from the official website and it had me pay through PayPal. Two weeks later and I’m still waiting for a shipping confirmation. I’ve sent several emails through the official site and to emails I find on forums without a response. I’m not sure what’s going on with my order and I’m not happy about it

Yeah. I've asked a couple of times 4WD Systems for info. It's taken them a few days to get back to me. The further away you are, the longer it will take to get to you. Especially in these days of covid fuckery.

I've fitted one. It doesn't seem to work properly - I'm still testing. I've emailed 4WD Systems a few times to get info to help me through the fitment and now the testing. They just don't respond. Firstly, I couldn't get the clearance gaps they specify. I asked them if someone over my way might be able to help with thinner washers or machining - NO ANSWER I found a place to get the washers machined myself. I tried them and still couldn't meet the specified gaps. They said they couldn't machine them any thinner. I asked 4WD Systems again as to what I should do and got NO ANSWER again. I was going to hand machine the washerts when the guy said he thinks he then could machine them thinner. So I finally got the gaps required and I re-assembled everything. I tried to hand test the diff - as specified - but it seemed locked up. I aksed 4WD Systems for help again and again got NO ANSWER. I decided to try the car on a gravel surface. It jerked a bit to start with but I found I could do figure 8s. I'm now planning to take it on a gravel hilly road to see what happens.

I have ordered and paid thru the website but not receiving any confirmation from Lokka when will they send the locker. Are they still in business? I have filed a dispute complain through PayPal as I use it for payment. I have ordered Lokka in the past with no problem shipping to Indonesia. I hope someone from Lokka can clarify.

On a constant 4x4 80 series can it be run if manual locking hubs are fitted?
@dartmoordave5 жыл бұрын
My trooper is part time but on full time you would need a transfer box lock to allow the front to be manually unlocked. If you have a viscous coupling transfer unit it will still drive but I wouldn't recommend it. Zero drive to the front would probably not make the VC operate. I've only fitted it to the front of my Trooper because its noisy in operation, clack clack, as it locks/unlocks. Trooper has factory fit plate type rear locker. I just use it to pull away when loaded/towing on loose ground. If you have good skills its a straight forward job, just find a good vid.

Hey guys, recently put one of your lokkas on the front of my dual cab, about to take it out in a couple of weeks. Question, i usually stick it in 4H on fire trails, am i still able to do this now the lokka is in there, there wont be an issue if im doing 50-60ks an hour with the front locked?
@4wdsystemsgeartogoannawher7545 жыл бұрын
Yes, its no problem for the Lokka, but just take the normal precautions with whether or not the track is suitable for 4WD or better driven in 2WD - transfer case windup will still occur like normal ! Its barely different to before but its slightly different with as small amount of self centering and if you have heaps of power then you may notice some torque steer changes from the past - common sense rules - drive it conservatively until you understand how it will drive in your car with your style of driving ! If you are rally/power sliding it around corners then take the first few corners with care, after that - you'll know !

Wow. So many dodgy statements in this video. Very dissapointed about how you're playing up this lokker. Apparently it has zero downfalls and a proper dunce can install it? Dreaming. These things are locked solid, like a minispool, whenever there is load on the pinion. Meaning whenever your not coasting (most of the time). So if you install in the rear diff, most of the time it's gonna be like driving with a welded diff. And that's IF you're able to set it up properly. So usually best to fit to front diff only. And having manual locking hubs is beneficial as it can get squirrelly on dirt at speed if your hubs are locked, even in 2wd when the lokker is not loaded. Proper sidegear shim adjustment is critical for correct operation. Which can delay you several days with your diff pulled apart if you find you need new sidegear shims. And it takes a certain level of skill to do this properly.
@roughas1004 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'd be hesitant putting it in the rear diff, well I'm still considering it for the front diff , my Toyota HZJ75 is part time 4wd with manual locking hubs , think these Lokkas make a clicking noise when turning on higher traction surfaces, they really should be known as " unlockers" , yep they spend most of their time locked.....
@drbog5024 жыл бұрын
It's not locked solid like a minispool. It works like a ratchet
