Just WOW! That's a realm I never really knew about. I've seen videos of Ben Burt recoding laser sounds with a similar type mic on steel cables, but that is the extent of my knowledge of such mics. The bridge sounds are incredible. Your wife is also awesome for appearing on camera jumping around. She knows the jumping meant something to you, especially if you had hit "record." Someone watching from a distance would have no idea why she was jumping like that and wonder if they should be making a phone call. Great video as always. What a super mic.

Wow! This is so cool! That all steel bridge is a great sonic find. Since I began watching your channel and a couple of others, all I do is think about great places to record sounds. I got a pair of LOM BasicUchos on your recommendation and have adapted an old second hand RODE blimp for wind protection because I’m a cheapskate. Scottish heritage or something maybe. $1.7 million for a Cinela Albert seems excessive for a hobby… I just got the low profile XLR cables in the post yesterday to complete the adapted RODE and now working out how to stopthe cables causing handling noise. Many plans for recordings over the coming Summer here in Sydney Australia where I live. I live in an apartment in a quiet tree lined street, 3 streets back parallel to a 4 lane arterial road. I did a recording yesterday morning in ORTF at dawn of the birdsong, which was beautiful BUT was amazed at how they picked up the very low sounds of the traffic 500 metres away into the soundscape. It gave the whole thing a richness of authenticity, if that makes sense? Anyway, ramble over. I love this stuff and I love your channel!!
@TheRecordist Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much! Hahaha. Yep. Welcome to world noise pollution. You’d have to go dozens of kilometers away from ANY traffic not to pick it up in your recordings. It’s amazing how our brains filter it out when heard by our ears, but can’t be ignored when we play the recordings back. Haha. It sucks. And as a lifelong field recordist, this has always been an issue. Low profile XLR cables are where it’s at for blimp recording! Great stuff! And if you do manage to get a Geofón, metal gates or bridges or even hulls of boats are insanely awesome places to attach it! Cheers from Canada!

Thanks to you i got myself LOM elektrousi! And you introduced me into the world of field recording as well (with the elektrousi review) I plan on buying Zoom H2n microphone as my first mic, could you please do a review on that one or give me an opinion on it? Thx!
@TheRecordist Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for letting me know about that! Field recording is the coolest! As far as the H2n, I’m not a big fan. It’s a cool little recorder but it can get noisy - as most of the Zoom H series recorders can. But there’s no room for upgrading on the H2n. For just a little more, I’d move to the H5 since it has better preamps and also an ability to not only record with the stereo built in mics, but also two other XLR ins at the same time. So you can record 4 separate channels at the same time. Being able to upgrade not only the swappable cartridge, but also plug in any XLR mic makes it a bit more future proof. I know it may not be what you want to hear but that’s my take. Hope this helps!
@denisbjk6731 Жыл бұрын
@@TheRecordist thank you for your reply and opinion! Well H5 is quite a lot out of my price range, and i think that the H2n would do just fine for my purposes since H5 seems to be a bit overkill for me But i agree with you though, zoom H5 is much more futureproof.. but its over my budget and H2n should be good enough as the first compact field/music microphone so i'll still go for the H2n!

No I think you’re right. It’s a very specific mic. But have you ever tried using it along with a pair of condensers? Like the LOM BasicUchos or even a couple of Line Audio CM4s.
