I had to look up long guard because I couldn't remember what it is: When The King is in London, the Guard consists of one Officer, one Corporal Major (who carries the Standard), two Non-Commissioned Officers, one Trumpeter and ten Troopers. This is known as a Long Guard. When His Majesty is not resident in London, the Guard is reduced to two Non-Commissioned Officers and ten Troopers.

Just FYI, horses can not only kick directly behind them, but can also kick out to the side as well. I am blessed to have a very kind hearted supportive horse, but he did kick me once. I had gone out to the pasture to bring him in and the bottom of my rain coat blew against his rear leg. The next thing I know is that I’m laying on the ground with my horse looking at me with a puzzled look. Thankfully, his foot just grazed my thigh. It was a complete accident, but I don’t think I wore that coat around him again. 😉

Yes, been kicked by my mare not because she wanted to, but just kicked out I think of flies or a leaf - you know horses, anything can get them going. Been kicked when picking hooves, foot been stomped on - again not intentionally by my girl. So, yes, people don't realize how horses can hurt a person easily although not intentionally often/

@@lyndaknight4152 he could indeed be going down with colic but in my experience it doesn’t go from 0 -60 in that space of time, doesn’t mean it doesn’t, just that I’ve not seen it! As for kicking inwards, horseflies tend to like the belly for a landing field, not to the exclusion of all else! In the box I saw the fly cross the doorway of the box and then generally buzzing around the courtyard, if it landed on his belly or he thought that it was going to that’s where he’d kick.

@@lyndaknight4152 tbh if they don’t already do so they should educate the Troopers about these things, too often the behaviour in the box could be easily dealt with if they only knew what to look for. I spend far too much time slowing down the video speed, enlarging the pic and rewinding and replaying and often it’s as plain as day or should be if you’re standing right in front of the animal, what is causing the trouble! With my own horses if I had them tied up for grooming or whatever and a horse-fly was around, I trained them to stand still, even when they were rolling their eyes and their lips were trembling, as soon as the fly landed I slapped it, when it hit the ground I trod on it. Ex-horsefly, happy horse! There was one vid a couple of months back where the horse was terrified and going around and around the box snorting etc. The Trooper on it didn’t notice the fly, the gates man came out a couple of times I believe, as did the camo bod, none of them did anything but chat to the Mounted Trooper yet the horse fly was in plain view, any one of them could’ve disposed of it.

John. Thank you for narrating your videos which make them more interesting and entertaining. The Kings Horses and guards do a amazing job of controlling the crowds. Many tourists know nothing about horses and most of the Kings horses probably weigh between 1200-1600 pounds. I can see why the horses that are swarmed by tourist get upset. With the noise and activities surrounding them it is easy for them to have a melt down. When Q-10 “lost it” and was finished with entertaining the crowds, the manure in his box was slippery and it’s difficult for a guard to keep their footing trying to control the horse. That is why it was cleaned up. 🐎 🙂

It doesn’t take much to spook a horse. I was once riding one who shied & bolted at the sight of a tin bath in the hedgerow. We’d passed the same tin bath on our way out on our hack without a problem but he wasn’t happy about it on the way back. But because a horse’s eyes work independently they can react differently from what they see through one eye to what they see out of the other. Their left eye is their rapid reaction eye - often with nippers why tourists on the left may get nipped quicker than those on the right . But it can mean that what they’re happy with seeing through their right eye could set them off when they see the same thing through their left eye. One of the reasons why horses are so unpredictable. Or Q10 may have had a sudden attack of the gripes. If they have digestive problems a sudden pain could cause a problem and have the horse kick out. Bet the trooper felt that tail flick though - I’ve been on the receiving end of one of those a few times. I’m surprised more tourists don’t get trampled. Because, no matter how expert horsemen & women the guards are, they’re still human so still have to have time to react when the horse acts out. And even then, if the horse doesn’t want to be controlled or doesn’t feel like being calmed down , then there’s not much they can do. There’s a reason why energy is measured in horsepower and not manpower.
@cynicalbeotch

And especially in that some of the tourists have NO situational awareness (or brains) and don't move their bloody selves out of the way!!
@elainebrooksbank5281
@elainebrooksbank5281 8 ай бұрын
@@cynicalbeotch it never ceases to amaze me how completely ignorant some of them are about how much damage a horse can cause. If they end up being trampled by a huge iron shod 17+ hh horse complete with rider & kit weighing in around 1000kg they’d probably never move again. But they stand there taking photos while the guards are trying to control a totally unpredictable horse. And knowing how quickly a horse can be spooked I’m appalled at people who stand their squishy toddlers right in front of the horse’s hooves for that all important holiday snap. Despite a horse having both monocular and binocular vision it has two blind spots - right behind its tail and under its head in front of its hooves. If it decides to prance around it just wouldn’t know they’d be there.

I saw this really early this morning. A lot of people have fixated on the way he's kicking with one hind, deciding there was something wrong with his leg but have watched footage several times I'm pretty sure hes got a tummy ache, a mild colic. Horses with stomach issues often kick a bit and I think that's what it is, and sometimes a change of stable can be enough to set it off. Also, ouch, that poor stableman getting a tail whip to the face.... that hurts(been there done that lol)

I thought that but I don’t know enough about horses. I hope everything is fine 🙏 such a magnificent horse and I only wish they could talk, not only to be able say what the problem is etc but imagine all the stories they could tell you, what they have seen and done, I would listen for hours. Be well Q10, we need you back soon 🐴 🫡

So happy you're going to give us videos to watch while the grounds are closed! I know I'd miss watching as will so many more. Since I just started watching a few weeks ago, there will be so many new things for see. BTW - you're being so weird this morning. Because it's Monday? I love it! You've made me laugh so many times today which I sorely needed.

Do any of the tourists really think about how the horse feels? Put a tourist, one at a time, for an hour. standing in a doorway? They'd have to endure endless folk coming up and touching, keeping close to them, with others waiting to do likewise with cameras in their faces! This has been allowed to go too far, and it is cruel that these wonderful horses are expected to endure it!

Q10 is a magnificent horse. He must be a joy to ride. The police horses are beautiful. I love grays. I really enjoy your commentary. Loved the remark about Tony Montana. With the other horse he certainly had an excellent rider. I have seen her handle "naughty" horses. Perhaps Q10's leg was bothering him because he kept kicking backward.

What a dear boy is Q10. So gentle . He really wants the interaction. In the USA, Lifeguards keep people from drowning at the beach. It must be different in Britain, otherwise why would they need horses? I don't see a horsefly bothering him.

Hi John, always great. Videos from you but a keen horsewoman im hooked in your filming Q10 here..gorgeous horse..what 17.5? 18 hands? I ask as 20yrs ago I was riding a 17.5 hand just like Q10..a gentleman and a sweetheart. Unfortunately we were riding through rough scrubland initially and a grass snake suddenly came out and spooked him. I totally admire the Horsemen holding the reins with just one hand, and using knee pressure…me with both hands just could not slow my ride down and he bolted..not stopping until we came to a very tall fence,and then he reared up and threw me. And it’s a long way down when thrown from that height! I remember him nuzzling my face,but that’s the last thing. Unfortunately once found and hospitalised, found I’d broken my back in two places and my neck vertebrae….my beautiful horse…was fine! Just frightened, but I was never able to ride again and now I am disabled, tho walk a few steps. So people should be aware these horses are living solid machines, which can easily get spooked, can smell fear, and if they decide to go..they go! And not easily stopped! So these horses should be given more respect than they Are, as well as the Horse men in control. It’s nigh on impossible with so many people and smells and hands waving in their faces. There are far too many tourists being allowed close up, and a nasty accident waiting to happen. Seriously, a barricade ought to be erected to give a safety factor to both sides…photos can still be taken with horse and guard in the background, but knowing horses, I find it foolish putting them in this position as well as Unfair. I did see a barricade erected for something recently, but forget what for and even then it was only up one day! Another thing I’ve noticed is how many Asian tourists we have who clamour more, but the warning notice on the wall about horses biting etc is only written in English…I doubt people even look, but think a second paragraph in Chinese or Japanese should be added, just as extra safety warning….Do you agree? I live in North Norfolk, and have had pleasure when the horses and their riders come on holiday, to gallop along the beach and in the sea…like big puppies they enjoy playing. Keep up your super videos John, but stay safe! As I said, horses have keen sense of smell and don’t like the smell of fear! Wishing you a great New Year! Warm wishes from North Norfolk! 🙋‍♀️🥰👍💕💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫶🙏🫖☕️ 🐎🐎🐎

It's all just a guess without being there and hands on but I am wondering if he might have developed a bit of gas colic. Lifting that hind leg is sometimes a sign of discomfort. He did not appear to be doing an actual kick, which are usually very quick and decisive, plus the way he held his tail up a few times, those are just things I noticed but could be totally off. Again, not being there hard to say for sure but given how kind the horse is usually, I would not be surprised if he had gotten a bit of gassy colic and was feeling a bit uncomfortable.

From what I’m reading, this horses tongue is out a lot and I can’t tell if the bit is a problem but I’ve read it can mean some health issues that seem pretty serious. I hope he is ok and I’ve misread. Thank you for what you are doing! I am enjoying it so much and your voice is delicious.
