I grew up on Long Island and I currently live in Cape Cod. There are so many similarities. The beaches along the Atlantic Coastline , the salt marshes ,the flora and fauna are very similar in both Long Island and Cape Cod. Long Island has more commercial development. I appreciate the education I received in the Three Village School District. I appreciate the safe neighborhoods and the quiet and peaceful times with nature.

Miles upon miles of sand and wine rows, 17th century windmills and Great Gatsby mansions, visionary art and picture-perfect towns; Long Island is more than just a destination, it’s home to some of the greatest chapters in U.S. history. Special thanks to Discover Long Island for their support on this video! Their keen eyed team (Jamie in particular) did point out a minor factual error at 05.35 "head further west to discover...". We got that one wrong and it's meant to read "head further east to discover...". We are always trying to keep our team on our toes and we thank anyone who helps us get the facts straight.

@Pen or Sword, which one? Most LIers have a love/hate relationship with their home. Overall, the quality of life for the average LIer whose family has been there for generations isn't what it used to be - most people have left as a result. LI is expensive with some of the highest property taxes in the US and it is very overcrowded. Most older folks end up moving out of state where they can actually afford to live on a fixed income of social security benefits and retirement savings. The large influx of illegal immigrants from Latin America has also had a huge impact on the demographics and culture of LI over the last 15 years - take that how you may. If you go for vacation, make sure you visit the north fork or south fork - these are the popular tourist destinations for a reason that are insulated, for the most part, from the negatives of LI. I could go on, but hopefully this gives you an idea of where Christian D is coming from.

Having grown up there I'd say a little of both. Anytime I go back, like this summer, I'm reminded why I don't live there anymore. A week of humidity and the worst mosquitoes I'd ever experienced, had me, my husband and kids (who were born out West) racing to get back to the West Coast beaches we frequent when we want to escape our Las Vegas home and 111° degree weather. Oh well, no place is perfect! 😉

This summer, as New Yorkers head out to Long Island’s beach towns and parks on the Southern State Parkway, they’ll pass beneath a series of overpass bridges made infamous in Robert A. Caro’s monumental 1974 biography of Robert Moses, The Power Broker. In one of the book's most memorable passages, Caro reveals that Moses ordered his engineers to build the bridges low over the parkway to keep buses from the city away from Jones Beach-buses presumably filled with the poor blacks and Puerto Ricans Moses despised. The story was told to Caro by Sidney M. Shapiro, a close Moses associate and former chief engineer and general manager of the Long Island State Park Commission. Let's not mention that.

I remember, I remember,..! Thank you, Daddy for taking me to those magnificent places,..I want to go and retrace our foot steps, to regain some of those memories, I miss you daddy so much, I will be doing this, for us. I only wish, we could have moved there, rather then, here to Phoenix,..Az. I know this was, your dream, that one is mine. I love you, Daddy, thank you for bringing me into this lovely world. I miss you.

The best season to visit is Spring and summer. After this season, the city is so quiet and the local struggle to make profit no thank you.😊😊😊

Funny how when they show the beaches its always empty. If you're here in the summer, that most certainly isnt the case.
