Learning a million ways to stop effectively should come before learning skills. Pro skateboarders are the ones who know how to stop without being hurt. Always learn to stop and be safe first over everything else. The first thing I did when I got a skateboard was learning ways to stop. A normal skateboard is really bad for going above 25mph or so, the trucks are meant to turn quickly at low speeds in parks so they are way too twitchy for going fast, plus the wheelbase also contributes to that. Overall a park setup is just horrible for going fast, there's a reason this guy is using a longboard and longboard trucks.

This guy is a pro. With 300-500$ trucks. A special deck. Expensive ceramic bearings. Super fast downhill wheels. And of course Venom bushings. This is all guesses except for the bushings. Yes, but when you hit the ground, you're moving directly perpendicular to it. If you fell of this longboard and hit the road, you'd be nearly parallel to the ground. That makes a world of difference, and there's a very good chance you wouldn't be killed. Still, don't do it… at least not without protection.

+ledari yes of course it is dangerous. even speed way lower than 40mph can be deadly when you have bad luck. but it is not like you step on the board for the first time, and than you go down a hill. you have to train for years to be able to brake at high speeds, train balance or the board will throw you off, you even have to practice how to fall. people that are going down a hill with 40mph are skating for some years, and they can handle most situations. Yes there are always badly hurt skaters, or people that die in a crash, but its not like 80%, more like 1%
