Very good explanations of some ideas in the classical Dutch. Usually when I play this opening I get the move order wrong and end up with a lousy position, so this game was very instructive.

It takes a while to master this opening, it is not an easy one to learn. Once learnt though, it can be very effective.

Thanks to Simon and his dvd in addition to these lessons I nearly always win with the Dutch simply because I understand the IDEAS in the middle game. Sadly I'm not so effective with my other openings!

thank you so much! a5 is such a great move. i love playing classical dutch, but always struggle getting my knight out without falling into them playing d5. i always resorted to shuffling it along the back, via d7 and f8, but don't like it. their queen often ends up on c2, and it really does work! you've improved my game immensely with this revelation!!

I like to watch your blitz sessions (specially when you play weird openings), but most of all I enjoy these 15 minutes games because I learn about all the moments of the game, openings, middle game and endings with your explanations, during the game and after. Im playing the dutch because of you GGM. Im 1600 and getting crushed. Its a very hard oppening to stabilize. Its so unbalanced it always brings fireworks

lol savage burn!! but cut him some slack, all of us sometimes get too relaxed when we are wining. Best lesson here is to keep your sword sharp it only takes a minor slip to let the enemy escape.

The way way you explained your ideas in the Classical Dutch has kind of encouraged me to play the Classical Dutch. I am a positional player and I currently play the Slav against 1. d4 and the Caro Kann against 1. e4 because they have similar ideas. Now I don't know whether I should add the Classical Dutch to my repertoire or not.

It takes a long time to learn the Dutch. It is not as easy option, but very rewarding if you can master it.

The French is better against 1 e4. Dutch works well against the Queens Pawn Openings.

Hi Simon, hope you read this because it's irritating when you have to resize the board every time you pull up the analysis board. Basically, when you open the analysis board, it opens it in a new tab in chess.com. That shifts the boards over slightly to make room for the tabs. To get it back to the original position without resizing, just close the inactive tab, i.e., keep the analysis board open, but close the tab for the game you've just played. Cheers

Wow, what a difference between Stockfish 8 and Stockfish 15. Stockfish 8 is struggling to understand why the final position at 35:45 is a draw, yet Stockfish 15 understands instantly that 34... Rb8 was a blunder by black, immediately evaluating to 0.0. 34... c4 wins the game though, hovering around -1.5. Tested Stockfish vs Stockfish after 34... c4 and black always wins. Great game!

i really wanted to learn how to play the dutch but got severely discouraged after playing against the double fianchetto system in many games. its almost as if white can just force black to never get e5 in

Well, I normally try ...Ne4 ...Bf6 ...d6 and then ...e5 against this plan.

He says to not allow an exchange of the white d pawn for the e pawn but playing Nc6 allows exactly that??

Instead of 28.... Kc7, why not : 28... Rf7 (to hold the b7 pawn) with the idea 29. ... Nd3!? (it's time to use the lovely knight !) with the idea of 30.... Bxc4 . Is there something wrong with that plan ?

Simon has education material on French and Sicilian, so you can play either of those against 1.e4, maybe start with the French.

The French is not my style (too cramped)I play the Sicilian Najdorf but my results are random due to the complexity. I should probably try the King's Indian.

I think King's Indian is a defence against d4, not e4. Against the Sicilian, you can try c3 Sicilian, there is a good DVD in Ginger GM shop by Sam Collins who is a great lecturer. There is also a Grand Prix DVD by Jones but I found that too complex, I could not watch it. Chessable.com has some good repertoires too, you can check them out.

Ginger all of your blitz games 95% you sack a pawn opening lines n win.. Long games you close down positions n going for queen trade with endgame.... Is just does not suits you.

Dilyan - ....b6 is a howler. He could have played Rab8. If c5 Rd5 and if Bc4 Re5 Bxe6 Rxe6 then... Re5 wins C5. Also, He had exchange sac ideas on d3 to target the c3 pawn, but only if c4 can be won.

egregious arts he talks about how he makes his bishop bad, how is out of game, how his Knight makes bad backwards moves or opponents rooks bad... But at the end he always fck up, I knew right after he traded queen's it will end badly. Just do what you do best n attack his king

What the hell are you talking about? There is no 'does not suit you' when it comes to GMs and the rest of us. Simon's position play was exceptional here. You're forgetting he's doing a job while playing and a damn fine one at that. You sit him down with this opponent over a board in a quiet room with only his own thoughts and he'll beat that opponent 9 times out of 10.
