You know why this yacht is also called a research vessel? Because the shipyard is researching how to build a yacht in the first place. And that's why you should always use experienced shipyards and naval architects
@MasterChief376 ай бұрын
It’s called a research vessel because that’s how its owner funded its build.

It may possibly become a new artificial reef for research the way things are going for it.

Best solution to stop craft from switching off AIS - all insurances immediately become null and void. It would be easy for AIS to write an algorithm to automatically flag a craft that wasn't transponding it's AIS signal
@zorbakaput85376 ай бұрын
Then you also have to have a system that allows all the legitimate reasons for it being turned off. IT control systems are worthless if you can't enforce them just like modern police forces were established to defend and protect citizens against crime except now they turn up after your dead and fill out reports - effectiveness - poor.

I recently toured another research vessel, it had the same problem. Stability issues, had to have more weight in the bottom and for more buoyancy had to be lengthened a bit. 20 million over budget and 5 years late, project was towed from original shipyard that didn't know what it was doing to another one to get finished. Lesson: Pick a good yard with experience, not the cheapest bid...

When you first said it had been cut in half, I thought it was due to a messy divorce. Anyway doesn’t inspire confidence in the vessel when even before launch it required extensive corrections in terms of lengthening and removing a deck to make it stable. One can only wonder at the “quality” and professionalism of the rest of the design and engineering.

I lived in San Diego for 30 years until 14 years ago. I used to go down to the harbor a lot. It is right at the end of Broadway Street, which is the main downtown street of San Diego. The sailing schooner you went over, 4 mast, is the Star of India, which only rarely goes out. It is a tourist attraction and you can pay to go aboard. I have never seen a yacht tied up there. Slightly south of there is a dock for cruise ships which go down the coast to Mexico. This is all in the Bay of San Diego. I'd say SD is one of the most beautiful cities in the US and has a Mediterranean climate. I loved living there, but California, in general, has become to expensive for the average person to live in.

The two Feadships - The Gallant Lady. Both were originally named that as well as a third. They were owned by the late Jim Moran who I believe passed away just after or just before taking delivery of the most recent one built. He, and now the family own the biggest Lexus dealership in the world (not sure if it still has that title) down here in south Florida, as well as they own the rights to all Lexus and Toyotas that come into the south east United States. Something to do with the port of entry and customs. They also have a large security firm, top notch family owned business that takes very good care of there employees! The wife and daughter still carry on the love he had for boating and they own a fleet of privet boats from center consoles, to sport fish, up to the Feadships. That one in your video had been staying at Bahia Mar in Ft Lauderdale for the last several years, but recently has been gone, and now I know where she is! The two of them were parked there for a while a few years ago, which the one had been listed for sale, and has been gone ever since, I’ve heard the oldest and smallest of the 3 was kept in the Bahamas, but it may of been sold as well. But for someone who grew up seeing and knowing about those boats, to see them together again over there definitely brings me a bit of happiness in a weird way lol. I am spoiled with a life of growing up on the waters of Ft.Lauderdale and seeing all the boats that cruise these waters! But the Gallant Lady is one that will always be remembered!!

those who like cars and yachts -------- watching live now -- two weeks before F1 monaco historic monaco racing event --- wikipedia // The first Monaco Historic Grand Prix was held in 1997 as part of the year-long celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of the Grimaldi family's presidency over Monaco. It had only been intended as a one-off event but became a huge success, leading to its continuation as a biennial event from 2000. The Historic Grand Prix of Monaco (also called the Monaco Historic Grand Prix depending upon the source) is a series of automotive races focussed on historic motorsport. The event is typically held biennially two weeks before the Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco.

I crewed a san cilmente class. American supertanker that had been extended, to barely fit the capacity of the Panama Canal. the extension left both the rudder and chain locker slightly undersized , so it didn't steer well . and a strong deckhand had to go into the locker and guide the chain in so it would fit. if the enormous chain were to start running, very probably would have been killed like something out of a horror movie. the san clement class tankers were built to serve the Alaskan oil pipeline with funding pushed through by the vice president in the Reagan administration , so were named after his vacation ranch location on the California coast. the ship was enlarged at the Mitsubishi shipyards, presumably to save money after the maximum american build subsidies were exhausted.(it also got a NATO subsidy on every sailing). they were the first double bottomed american tankers, double bottoms were required to work among Alaska's zero pollution fishing areas., and are now required everywhere. obviously the zero pollution plan had flaws, after one was run aground. one would have to ask a senator why oil companies needed financial assistance to build ships.

Thankfully, those 12 meters are done for stability issues. I thought it might be a “vanity extension”. 😉 Wish they had to WIDEN it for the stability. That would have been more interesting. 😊👍👍

Is the 20x networth to boat cost actually accurate?
@chrisbudniak91446 ай бұрын
its 10%, and yes the running cost is 10% of the boats value to run every year. so £100 million is £10 million a year to run

Not sure I'd like to travel across an ocean in a yacht that'd been chopped in half and an extra bit added in?😳 And why isn't Nord fined for not using its location thingy?🤔 If it was fined by each kilometer travelled that might cause them to turn the tracker 5hingy on!😁 And, how come Nord keeps taking these enormous trips when the owner is stuck in Russia? 🤔 Or are the crew just enjoying themselves?😂

Idk what you find so appealing about Liva O... It is perhaps the cleanest looking yacht yet built, but it's got no "wow" factor to it... In photos, it looks like a cheap model kit with no detail

To me the wow factor is the lack of “hangnails” and other distracting bits. So much now looks like what I call “running shoe design”. Very overdone. I really like the minimalism. But that’s why they make chocolate AND vanilla! 😊
