I've always liked Dr. Mike's stuff because he's very clear about, "This part gets you 90% of the benefit, this other part works, but for most people isn't worth the effort." I'm glad to see other experts confirm he's right on the science.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I've followed Dr. Mike for close to 10 years, and the majority of his advice will be have him saying something to the effect of "This should work most of the time for most people" and he makes that clear, he doesn't typically deal with any absolutes. And the majority of his advice, even at worse while not necessarily "good" advice, it isn't "bad" advice

As a biochemist (just a BS tho), I'm glad that the health and fitness space is becoming more scientific in nature. There's a level of bluntness and humility that most people in science have to develop (typically via suffering in academia) to assert a more widely accepted hypothesis or to acknowledge when they're out of their depth, and it makes the transfer of knowledge *so* much more efficient and easy to understand. It makes pursuing my own fitness goals more intellectually stimulating, which personally really ups my motivation and enjoyment of the process. Really appreciate that this was on display in the critique! Curious to do some reading on NMN and see what that's all about.
@HealthandExercise-ht1zlАй бұрын
Man that "level of bluntness" can really bite you in the ass out in civilian life when you accidentally expose it to normal people who usually haven't had to develop the necessary humility to match it..

Well if you want Biochemistry check out Sara Pughs YT. Health Science can never be as science based as the name suggests. This is because your cant run extended tests with adequate Controls. Professor Bart Kay has covered all that on his main YT channel. He also covers the flaws of what Beliefs people hold, which have and always will be wrong. Just because the Institutes themselves are utterly corrupted. Harvard is one for example. Harry Serpanos is also a self-taught good source of what nobody covers at length or is able to piece together.

yeah there are a lot of people preaching the benefits of NMN for the NAD cycle. Not sure I understand the hate on that one. It is a little pricey, but Bryan Johnson and Jeffrey Gladden support it and I believe the NOVOS supplement and Nuchido have it in. It just gives more NAD to help make ATP is my understanding.

@dude861 dr Nicola Conlon has done some research on NAD with her Time+ supplement which is basically NMN and her data is published on the site. Granted she's selling a product, but NMN, NR even Niacin are precursors for NAD+ and even if the uptake is less than 50% from the supplement the idea of increasing the amount of NAD present is positive. I would be interested to see a study with older participants as that is where I believe you would see the most benefit.

I look at the healthy aging movement as a "wide tent" movement. It can accommodate a wide array of views ranging from super-optimism to deep skepticism. People with these views share some ideas/perspectives in common--and that allows them to work together on common goals (for laypeople = advocacy and funding). The only individuals who wouldn't fit in are cynics (who believe either that nothing at all can ever be done to slow/reverse aging or that nothing should be done...).

The real question concerning disease is early detection. We can detect breast, colon, and a few other cancers with minimally invasive techniques and procedures. @@glassman3333exactly. I also understand where he's coming from. I'm not an IT expert, but read a book about AI. If we look at the game of chess, we've been playing this game for hundreds of years. We gathered knowledge about it, wrote books about it and some mastered the game by thousands of hours of practice. Then we build chess computers with rule based software. "if opponent does this, then computer does this". Those computers were pretty good, to the point they could beat chess masters. Then with AI we build a new sort of chess computer, not rule based anymore. It looked at thousands of games between chess masters and learned the patterns in their strategies. This AI chess computer was so good it beat the rule based computer 100 to 0 and also beat chess masters 100 to 0. You now have an AI computer that is way better than what we as humans gathered in hundreds of years. Now the scary part is, someone made a 2nd AI chess computer. This time the computer didn't learn patterns from watching humans play. It only knew the rule book of chess and played thousands and thousands and thousands of games against itself, learning new patterns, finding out what works and what doesn't, to the point that it now created its own never before seen strategies. This AI chess computer version 2 now learned chess with basically no human intervention, besides a human inputting the rule book of chess in the beginning. This version 2 computer played against the version 1 AI computer (the one who learned patterns from seeing masters play) and beat that computer 100-0 in 100 games. So just as an example of how AI learned itself to play chess in a few hours (by simulating those 1000s of games), and got to a level sooo much higher than anything we as humans could reach after hundreds of years of playing this game. We are used to a certain pace in developping in science, but one new AI application can disrupt everything we thought we knew about how long it takes to develop in certain areas. One very interesting topic in that regard is DNA research. It's extremely complicated to find out which part of the DNA is which gene. It used to take multiple PHD students multiple years of their time to find 1 part gene. At the pace we were going before AI it would have probably taken us multiple centuries to find out all we want to know. Not to mention the cost to fund those PhD researchers. AI now started doing this research for us and every part it learns to solve, makes it better, faster, more efficient, to the point that it might figure out the entire function of all genes in a matter of a few years. This is huge in researching causes of disease, and thus in solving the diseases. However at the same time I'm not sure if we will be able to keep up with all this new knowledge and if we can really market new medicines very fast, given FDA protocols and so on.

No, he genuinely believes that. He's talked about it on tonnes of podcasts

You were supposed to start beef! Where’s the DrAmA!! Blood for the blood god! Jk yeah, he’s legit. This was great. I like this idea of “peer reviewing KZbin videos”.
