This is the Longwei LW-K3010D Power Supply.
Hey, 3 year future me here: This thing still is truckin. I had to jerry rig the connectors cause they got corroded since they're cheap. For the price (still $65) you can't beat it imo... that is, if you don't mind dealing with the el'cheapo connecters.
Also this is by far my most disliked video I've made haha. I was still in high school and a free $65 tool was a big deal haha. Also, my jokes at the beginning 👌 💩

You should check the constant current as well in your review, since it is a power supply.

I got one from banggood here in Australia whilst is preforms its functions ok it has one thing that makes it non compliant to electrical standards, the metal case is not earthed so I would recommend that people open it up and fit an earth to the metal case here in Australia we use 240V as our general supply making it important.

To add to this after pulling it apart to change the binding posts to belling lee ones I have. The power switch does not switch the power off it switches the rectified mains DC on/off so while plugged in to a switched on power outlet the bridge rectifier , high voltage DC electrolytic capacitors and associated mains circuitry is still live so I also suggest rewiring the switch so it does turn the power off.

got one today i notice that the current knob move freely and smothly however the voltage knob moves with little bit of friction? is that normal? thanks

I'm looking for something to etch logos into steel, would this be good for that? Could you adjust it to whatever you wanted, like 12 volts, 2 amps.

Yes you could set it to 12v at 2amps. How are you going to etch it?

@@HappyMadScientist Its for etching logos into knife blades, I've been using a 9volt battery and connecting alligator clips to it, then connecting the red end to the steel and the black to a q tip, dipping it into salty water and etching, works well with simple carbon steel but i want to try different amp/volt settings to see the difference in speed and depth, and also try it on different steel like stainless. This machine looks perfect for it.

Great video certainly proves how robust it is but just wondering did you calibrate the multimeter with a known precise voltage before you used it to measure the output of the PSU? If you didn't then the measurements will be worthless as you have no idea how accurate they were

No I didn’t calibrate the multi meter. Though, it isn’t an el cheapo multi meter and therefore I think it’s reasonable to assume it is accurate to within + -.5%

Can you tell me what multimeter did you use? I sort of forgot it's brand. But I know that it's UL listed.

Mine doesn't, ramps up to set voltage and no overrun that I can detect.

I figure the video is a little cringy and/or people think I'm a shill for banggood cause they gave it to me for free... which isn't true... I tortured that thing making a crapload of iron oxide and it's still going. I would appreciate if people would tell why they disliked it... but it's the internet :)

Yeah because you come across as a shill for them even though you talk about how your supposedly not that at the start. Dropping 4V at full load is a big deal for something like this, how much does it drop at 5A or with lower voltages? Most people are interested in doing more than just electrolysis with these, so it ends up not being very helpful. Your only complaint is there are no banana plugs, does that mean you can't plug banana plugs in or did it just not come with banana plugs (which would not be suprising for something cheap).

​@@MrGigaHurtz Hey thanks for being the only critical person to take the time to actually write a comment. At 12v it takes 10 amps without dropping and it seems to be the case right up until 26v-30v. It works fine for all the low power circuits I've used it for but they are generally less the 2 amps. This is the first legit power supply I've had so I wasn't quite sure what the criteria was for a good one other than it worked for weeks at a time under full load and didn't fall apart. I built my own out of an old variable AC/DC model train power supply which worked but was a piece of crap so this seemed pretty good in comparison I guess. Yeah, the plugs aren't banana plugs and whatever plugs it has are cheap and didn't come with a connector. I'm gonna put banana plugs in it as soon as I get around to it. Hope this helps.

It is only possible to limit current. I suspect you might be trying to increase current output by turning the nob? Amperage is related to how much voltage you put through a system. ie. The more voltage (pressure) you have, the more amperage (flow) you can achieve. What the amperage nob is useful for is say you want high voltage (pressure), but low amperage (low flow rate). It will limit the current so you don’t burn up your electronic circuit. This is something even high end power supplies can’t do. If your problem persists just go ahead and return it.

I bought one of these. It lasted for about an hours use and worked up to specs but when I turned it on again all I could get was the display and no output and no control from the knobs. I suspect that there is a low voltage internal supply that feeds the circuit board and the electronics which seems to be OK but the switching section which provides the output has a vital component failure somewhere. Just about impossible to find without a circuit diagram. My suggestion - don't buy one! A waste of money~!!!! damanos

There’s a small chance the problem is that the switch on the back above the plug is set to 220v or 120v. If that’s not the problem then return it. Buying stuff from China is hit or miss.

Wow, this has to be in the running for the worst review on KZbin. I won't go into what's wrong with it, suffice to say I don't think there's anything right about it. And who the hell is a nortrical engineer. I wouldn't worry about telling them to go elsewhere to get info, I'm sure they cleared off right after you started. I can't say I'm surprised at the 800 subs, any surprise would be that you have any. You definitely give no reason for anyone to come back for more. Do you by chance watch other people's videos? They could teach you a lot, but somehow I doubt you're interested.
