As a person who has had several foals through the years, babies are a LOT OF WORK. Back when I had mine, I couldn't afford any sort of foal watching equipment. So for weeks one mare of mine showed no signs of foaling, Getting up every couple of hours every night and checking her several times a day took a toll on me. One day she had started waxing up so I was sure she would have it soon. But my body demanded sleep so I went back to the house to take a short nap. Got up, checked her again. She had a filly who was standing and dry when I went out. Miranda had to have waited until she was sure I was in the house and then dropped the foal quickly! Later I found out that mares can delay their foaling somewhat if they feel they're not safe. I had had Miranda for several years at that point in time, but I was never able to catch her in the act of foaling. Once they're born they need to be handled for short periods of time on a daily basis. If you watched Shae's videos of her handling both Ezzie and Ariel, you can see how much work it takes, work that could be used for training all the other project horses she has. Shae has also mentioned that she is not in the business of raising and training foals as it takes 4 years for her to feel comfortable starting their under saddle work. That's 4 years of feeding and working with them that could be used for another horse or 2 and another year or more before she could put them in the lesson program. Shae does a remarkable job working with horses in her chosen field. And that field doesn't include foals.

It might have been an accident. I had an idiot worker who put studs and mares out together even after being told Never put males with females ! Not even the geldings. He did it anyway. Of course I fired him but that did not solve the resulting problem. Un-registerable offspring.! They were pretty but no papers. I was stuck with those foals for three years until I got them trained and sold to decent homes.

I know I'm being nit picky but I was surprised Shae liked her so much, her rear end was SO sloped and I remember her disliking that at another auction and another horse. She is a BEAUTIFUL mare but I would have passed her up, though the idea that she would have a gorgeous foal would have been tempting !!😢

I have an idea for a concern you voiced in this video: Riding without a helmet. I heard your internal & saw the external struggle: Riding that gorgeous 16+ hands high horse, "sans safety protocol," in front of your many fans, young & old. What a dilemma it was. I felt it.The little girl in you, who is "over the moon and back" with the love of horses, threw caution to the wind AND took off. It was JOY in motion. Such fun for this old lady to behold. Now, my idea. Put a helmet in every vehicle you have. NOT IN THE TACK ROOM, with the intention of taking to the next auction/s. Miss Shea, take good care of you. Many people and your animals (not just horses) love & need you. 🙂
@jaihamilton74585 ай бұрын
Shae needs to start bringing a spare helmet in her car to auctions just in case someone offers her a ride Edit: didn't realise you said that already, but I agree wholeheartedly. You never know when the situation will arise that you need a helmet

That one mare was absolutely beautiful! When you said she was in foal, AGH! She reminded me of an Andalusian somewhat. I respect that you tell people not to lose their heads at actions and to not be afraid to leave without anything if the horses are not what you need/want. In an age where I see a lot of people buying animals for clout, you are a voice of reason and I appreciate that so much. Would that I had the money and the place to put that mare (and potential foal) I would have loved to have snatched her up! Much respect to you for knowing what you can take on and not compromising on that. That would have broke my heart if I was in your shoes. I love tagging along to these auctions and seeing all the lovely horses. It's nice to see some well run auctions with good looking horses and not half starved, abused, dumped animals. I watch a couple rescue channels so I've seen some not wonderful places that sell horses. It's nice to watch your videos and be reminded that there are good, reputable places with a lot of nice looking horses that have been cared for in their lives. Keep up the good work.

How did you look? Like the best rider on the green! Sorry about the buckskin beauty. This was fun to watch, as usual. I can't fault you for being careful after all. Thank you for sharing, Shae!

I just love your horse auction adventures, and you had some really beautiful horses to look at. I love that there's no kill buyers allowed. Thank you for taking us along❤

Sorry about that mare being pregnant. It seems like she would have made a good horse for Kyle, being so big. I loved her too. It's a good thing it was you choosing and not me. 🙂

The mare you rode was really gorgeous. Pity she was pregnant. I would have been interested in the haflinger pony at 10:39 on the right side. Haflingers are one of my favourite breeds 💕🐎

You have this glow about you when you find a horse that you just fall for. None of the horses, even the ones you liked didn't bring out that glow in you. You'll find your next horse soon!

That’s a bummer that the mare was most likely pregnant. A wise decision not to take a chance. Disappointing that the other horses you were interested in didn’t work out. Your instincts/ intuition is spot on, trust it. I think I’ve said this before, however, i love that you are so clear on your mission and what you can manage. It makes it easier to say no. Happy birthday!! a little early. We share the same birthday.

I would have gone for that mare … but easy to say while I sit in my armchair! 😂 I also liked the “stunning” bay gelding that was standing in the stall … and the five year old FriesianX … but then I’m partial to Friesians/Warmbloods/DraftXs, etc. Looking forward to the next auction … it’s always entertaining watching you when you get into bidding. See you next VLOG. 🙌🙏✝️❤️🇨🇦

Question from the UK where I don’t think mules are as commonplace as the USA - would you ever consider having one? They look really interesting characters, I am fairly ancient and I remember my English teacher talking about using mules to transport goods in World War II ! He was really fond of them x❤️❤️

It's funny that you commented this because I was going to ask the same thing. Mules are great and very different but you can still build an amazing bond with them. It would be cool to see her have one.

Mules are common out here in Montana. They use them for the back country especially for packing in the mountains. Mules are also used by the US forest service to get goods out to back country areas. The way they are hybrid from Horses makes them good going up hills and down......their hind legs get under them more from their conformation. We use them for Hunt trips into the mountains. Training mules is a little different from Horses. They can be very stubborn and its important with them to have them avoid major mistakes when training them for they will remember it and be reluctant to get involved in it again. They are know for it. Best find a experienced trainer first

As an aside, the USMC still trains mules as pack animals when traversing remote jungles and mountainous terrain. A Marine mule named Alice recently won the dubious title; The Meanest Mule In The Marine Corp.........I certainly would not want to tangle with her!

Oh Shae,how many beautiful, good horses ❤ Thank you for taking us wth you! I liked Gus a lot, he seemed like a kind, safe horse, really beautiful color too. The big buckskin mare, ooooh, can you imagine what the foal would look like 😍 very hard decision to let her go, but probably right 😫 The browne horse didn't speak to me, I could only agree with you regarding him. 🐎🐎🐎 perhaps next time❤
