Underneath it looked as solid as my 1989 3.5i V8 I bought in Oman, shipped back to the UK for a couple of years then shipped to Saudi Arabia till selling it in 2010, last I heard it was charging around paddocks in Western Australia, kept away from salt the chassis will last for ever

A big job to take on there. I have a mint 1994 Vogue SE hard dash, the 3.9 was getting a little lazy so I’ve fitted a BMW M70 V12 into it. Looks factory, better fuel economy (although again, we don’t drive our classics for economy) and goes like the clappers now.

I absolutely love your new challenge, I think the p38 engine would be very interesting. If that p38 works out, I am seriously considering that as well. My 3.9 is getting quite tired. Sorry for rambling, I get a little excited, I have the RRC sickness. 🤞🤞p38🤞🤞

I put a 200tdi in mine and it was brilliant as a daily driver, but it was also a great way onto the ladder of land rover ownership.... I used the Borg Warner transfer case on the back of the lt77 and it was easy to get the engine to sit in the right place for welding the eng mounts to the chassis... I used the coil ignition live for the stop solenoid and we were in business... I like the look of the csk short bumpers and made my own out of the standard vogue ones and I also had to weld most of the rear inner wheel arches, rear quarters, inner wings and sills, but it was a great car.

Speaking from personal experience - Finding some of that interior stuffs gona be a challenge. At least that's a common color. Mines a black sable - only brought in about 1000 in 93/94 - Now that is a problem. Rust free but the sun kills the plastic wood and rubber. Plastic they made the dash out of gets very brittle with age. Might be worth trying to find a scrapper with a good inside and good rubber and swapping over.

I have a '95 300Tdi RRC, all factory spec. It's not quite as "nice" as a V8, but it manages 35mpg and is happy at 80mph without much cab noise(tops out at about 95) and is far more reliable than the V8, so it's a good option and not a wild mod given it was a produced spec. I wouldn't have a ZF with the Tdi, though - it needs an R380 to squeeze the lesser performance from the engine. The carpet section you had folded is for the lower tailgate. I think the window seals are being remade - JLR Classic are gearing up to remake most parts and have a lot of RRCs going through the works, but Discovery 1 trims will also fit, and I think D2 trims, though slightly different in profile, also fit. I suspect you could use manual seats from a D1 with the RR cushions, trim and arm rests to get around the broken switch gear if it's irreparable.
@getinthevantim

300Tdi with an R380 behind it. Dependable, gutsy and hilariously easy to work on. What do they sound like ? Who cares because it's a sweet symphony to your wallet or purse....

After market mirror with a reverse camera. The window rubbers are the same as a D1, but given the window frames are about the only things shared over D1 and D2 maybe Dr rubbers could be used. Good luck.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 жыл бұрын
There is a bit of a difference with the rubbers - the RR rubbers go under the mirror where the D1 butts up against them

It would seem to me that if she wants you to put a winch on it then she wants to use it for what it was meant to do go off road not to be a show /shopping car. I may be wrong but if it was my car/truck I would want you to fully rust proof it then put the 4.6 V8 in it as for the inside just make it look nice but not worry about keeping it stock.

All you need now is its evil twin that has a rotted chassis but a pristine interior. Kidding aside, I suspect buying a wrecked RRC with a good interior would be the most cost-effective way to get all the interior bits you need. The time/labour to spruce up what is there seems uneconomic to me. As far as engine, go with a good Rover V8. As you say - fuel is cheap. Save the 300tdi for a Defender

I would personally paint it a dark blue or fire frost red with colour coded bumpers. Put some nice wheels on like the mondials they make for the defender and maybe a nice roof rack. I think the 300tdi would be a good engine with a bigger turbo and or intercooler. Keep up the good work Mike. From Dean in west yorkshire.

Hi Mike, I don't know what your customer intend to do with the vehicle but I doubt it is going to be his daily. Swapping in 4.6 V8 + aut. would be much better choice. I understand that in NA small diesels are kind of a novelty but a V8 is way more fun. I think He just needs to realize that he is lying to him self if he thinks that he is doing this for practical reasons. Even sorting out a 3.9 would make more sense to me. To put the car together to somewhat usable state is enough work already.
