What a fun video Crysta, I learnt to knit with my nan - she started me on socks for my dad. Crochet I learned with my mum, then dropped and you have brought me back to it - found you in October/November when I was looking for a craft that would loosen my hands up- both my grandbabies had crochet hats this christmas and I'm just finishing a slouched hat for my daughter - didn't have the right wool so I crocheted with 2 balls of dk to make the approximate thickness of chunky and they worked up beautifully - thank you for bringing me back to this very relaxing craft.

The silver hook you showed with the really nice handle actually looks like a part of a nutcracker set..we used them as picks to help take the nut out of its shell after its cracked..

I still got the first hook my grandma gave me when she taught me to crochet. I used it for everything. I didn't know back then that I had to use different sizes. I'm 55 years old until May and I think I was 12 years old when she started teaching me and then I stopped and picked it up back later maybe in my twenties and off and on crocheting different things. I have enjoyed learning about the hooks. Thank you. I have like four hooks with "boys" and the ones with 0 boys 0. Thank again

Everything I know about crochet hooks I learn from you and I love these videos. I love sharing your passions with you. Thank you for sharing. ❤ A little bit off subject, but I think you would understand the sentiment. I bought a sewing box at a garage sale. The man who sold it to me, told me with fondness that it was his wife’s, but she had passed. The sewing box meant so much to him, that I still have it, intact. I just can’t bear to separate anything out of it.

Are you sure that think at 19:15 wasn't a nut pick? I find Tupperware orange peeling tools in with the crochet hooks every once in a while, too. 😀 I loved that old plastic green Boye hook. They are great to work with. Whatever plastic they are made of (Bakelite?) Works really well with certain acrylic yarns that squeak on metal hooks. (Can't stand the squeaking!) Great video. Thanks.

I have an old hook that just says England on it. That’s it. i inherited a few older Gem and Susan. Not an inline person even though I learned on them…But when discovered others I prefer those better. Would love to find a Hero. I got a bunch of older lace hooks at local thrift. I was thrilled. Boye, Gem and Susan, Leewards. I made one doily. Idk how my mom did all those doilies and pillowcase edges.

I use vintage boye steel hooks for beading my knitting, usually a #10. I prefer the older ones....the shaft is longer & smoother...the newer ones are so c***pily made that they actually snag the yarn!! I've noticed that you've never mentioned "dritz", which are swiss made. I can remember when I gave you your first plastic "hero". 😉 My goal is to find another #10 gunmetal boye, I accidentally broke mine. 😭

Have you tried " HIYA HIYA " hooks they are aluminium and sol overseas. My sister met someone who crochets using only her fingers; said her grandmother was taught during depression by her family because they were too poor to buy a hook ( she uses regular yarn to work with). Another lady she met only crochets " one of a kind" pieces and will not make a duplicate and doesn't write a pattern for any of her work and does not use a pattern to n ake anything. I have not figured how she can crochet with her fingers using a #3 or #4 weight yarn
