We had the same situation with a condenser dryer. None of the programmes actually dried the clothes. Wasn't cheap either but was bloody useless. Got a much cheaper vented dryer from Argos with Hi/Low setting with a timer. You've guessed it, now our clothes are drying so much quicker and no need to repeatedly empty the water container either. Happy Days are here again 👍👍👍👍

Im in the same place, my dryer lives in a small 29'x36' cupboard, heat pump dryer wouldn't work, we have difficulty getting the vent out, so hubby said get a condenser, it has 2 heat settings, one is hot and the other is melt some clothes hot, and it takes much longer to dry, so going back to vented.

I had an expensive heat pump tumble dryer with self cleaning condenser, never again, took 3 hours to dry, that’s after being spun in a separate spin dryer, 2800 rpm, after the dryer had finished, it would leave a small amount of water in the bottom filters. Apparently, this was normal. I now changed to a vented dryer and takes under 1 hour to dry towels.

My Kenmore vented died three days ago after 40 years to the week of trouble free service for a family of three until jr finally moved out 20 years ago. A wedding gift so it was easy to date it.

my Hotpoint vented tumble dryer is still working after 35 years. Some minor repairs along the way. My wife hates the "elephant's trunk" vent hose (which we put through the cat flap) but I am resisting a change even though I like the idea of an energy efficient heat pump dryer

To replace our vented dryer we tried a condenser dryer and a heat pump dryer. Heat pump was a disaster, took so long to nearly dry the clothes. The sensor saying cupboard dry whilst still damp, needed additional cycle every time. The condenser dryer was faster but put humidity (as did the heat pump dryer) in the room. Also, as mentioned, only a vented dryer will work in a cold area, eg. garage. Therefore, a vented dryer is for us, the £150 to £300 saving in purchase price will offset the extra electricity used. Vented dryers are much simpler, so should be more reliable long term.

My vent fell out of the ceiling and I made an indoor vent with a 5 gallon bucket and some furnace filter type stuff. Adds some humidity for my dry climate so works well

We have a condenser drier and is kept in an extension to the house, however it isn't heated and the drier won't work when the temperature is below 5°c so in the winter it stops working. We will very shortly change back to a vented as we have access to an outside wall for the vent. The only problem is at the moment vented driers are in short supply.

To answer your question, I would avoid drying overnight but I would do it rarely if I needed to. Good video.

I’m enjoying watching the channel, lots of good tips and info based on manufactures and comparing brands. Love it. A little gentle feedback I found it difficult to see the display on the Bloomberg when you were showing us the functionality. You didn’t switch the machine on but I’m sure you had reason. I would appreciate a direct comparison more detailed in the pros and cons of heat pump TD compared to standard vented TD. I appreciate it will be a tug of war between time, cost of running and cost to the environment would very much like you to share more of your thoughts, experience and your on preference. If you could elaborate more with the figures I’d be grateful.Thank you

My Bosh condenser dryer is next to the washer and has the option to drain the water through the washing machine outlet. Was a accessory you need to buy but it gives you the choice. Before fitting I was in the habit of letting the water container fill and when I come back the clothes are still wet and then I see the flashing "Empty Water" light😜.

I owned an Italian made Splendide combo washer/dryer with outside venting. I loved the unit. With the high speed spin dry and vented drying it could take less than an hour to wash and totally dry a load, depending on the fabrics. I moved to another location and bought a ventless LG combo washer/dryer. It could take several hours to wash and dry a load that was still damp.

The best vented dryer I ever had was also heated by Gas. Cheap as chips and quick - lasted 20 years. They’ve gradually gotten worse - condenser mich slower and the new heat pumps just take an ages to dry and for some clothes this is damaging - I find stuff come out more creased and shrunken because they’re in there so long!

Same! I've kept our gas one going because the longest cycle is 1 hour and the usual dry time is 20 mins to 30 mins for a half load. Wife loves it, doesn't want to think about anything else. Doing the cost comparison with a heat pump, the gas dryer is still cheaper.

My White Knight, 15 year old vented is still going strong. We tried a heat pump and condenser but got shut of them as none dried as well or as quick. I'd always go with vented

Qill this do a duvet or pillows? What size of any dryer do I need for a double winter duvet? Is the main factor the opening width?

To an extent yes the porthole size is important but you need to make sure the duvet can move around in the drum to wash effectively

We have a hole in the wall and switched our vented dryer for a heat pump one. The vented one was so much faster but I like to think our new one, which is super slow to dry the clothes, saves a lot of electricity. So far I’m not impressed with the heat pump one though.

I have just gone from a vented tumble dryer to a condenser dryer simply because it was so hard to find a vented one. One thing that isn’t highlighted is that condenser dryers can cause condensation but with my vented dryer I had none. I can see it might be useful in cases where it is impossible to have the dryer vented or there is no window nearby for the vent but I regret buying mine. I also bought a washing machine and found it is now almost impossible to find one now that has a hot and cold fill too.

Yes indeed. It seems everyone fails to mention that condensor dryers still vent air continuously into your room. They are nowhere near 100% efficient at removing the moisture from than air so you get continuous low levels of moisture blowing out of the machine and condensing on every surface.

Will need to replace our hoover vented tumble dryer soon, but need one with the vent at the back in the centre of the machine due to the position of the hole in the wall, any like that still available.

Same :) Someone tried to sell me a heat pump telling me that it would save on energy and they mentioned tumble driers to which I pointed out that we had a gas one. He was surprised, had never heard of them. Shame that they're considered evil things now but when you've had one, you don't want anything else.

Silly question but can you use a condenser kit with these types of tumble dryers? I'm looking at getting a table top one as I'm every short on space but really miss having a tumble dryer in only 2 mins in so I do apologize if you answer this lato on in the video

Not a silly question, you can use the condenser box kits with most vented dryers although sometimes it's not that effective. You can find the room still gets a bit warm and moist when using these which doesn't normally happen with a condenser.

Our is still going. I've had to replace the thermocouple and the drum bearings, that's it. 20 mins to 30 mins typical cycle time, 1 hour max. Wife loves it.

@@doyouknow007bond That will likely be the rear drum bearing rivets. It's actually quite a cheap fix, you can buy the bearing and holder on Ebay but does require a bit of work to fit as the drum has to come out. The issue is simply that the bearings on the old drum are rivetted in and these come lose, the drum turns around and drops hence the click you hear. My solution was to remove the drum, have to drill out the old rivets and bolted a new bearing carrier in. Takes a couple of hours.

In the United States, I've never seen anything but vented dryers in homes, but I'm very curious about the more efficient condenser or heat pump dryers. My dryer vents through a big hole into my garage, and I often do a load of laundry at night, putting the washed laundry into the dryer, delayed to start at 5:30am or so, fresh and ready for when I wake up.

hi Taylor, If I were you I would never replace a vented dryer with a condenser or heat pump model. The vented machines are quicker and more reliable due to not consistently recirculating damp air (due to in-perfect steam condenser efficiency), which is passed back through the heating elements sometimes causing earth leakage tripping faults, or blown elements and thermostats. The Heat-pump models are ok if you have all day to let it dry due to the lower temperatures created by the condenser.

I think that vented dryers appear less popular now because fewer and fewer people own their homes now. Instead you have tenants who would have to buy their own dryer but won't pay to have a hose put through the wall. So more people will buy condensers...

Then those same tenants fill the rental with humidity by use of condenser tumble dryer and drying clothes on radiators, blasting the central heating up to 23 thus creating mould on cold walls.

Can you explain how to open the dryers door as I’ve used it once and now it seems locked . Is there a reason for this as I shall need to contact the retailer if you can not help !

Normally they should allow the door to be opened once the cycle has finished. If its not opening straight away, then there may be a lock that takes around 2 minutes at the end of the cycle to disable, then you should be able to open the door. If that doesn't work then check to make sure you haven't accidently enable the child lock on the dryer

I wouldn't put a tumble dryer on overnight not to be trusted these days with all these various appliance recalls over safety issues in recent years. I cannot understand why Blomberg and Beko put on the on /off on program dial surely in that position it would be off and would only be on when set to a program so on off doesn't make sense to me it should just say off.

I have a Bosch vented dryer & I hate it with a passion & is not a patch on my old AEG(before Electrolux merger). My Bosch will not dry a small load. It has no manual override, just 20 mins warm. If you put a king size duvet, sheet & pillow cases. Shake well, put it in the dryer & it will turn the whole load into large ball wrapped in the duvet. The middle of the load are wet. Shake it all out, put it all back in the dryer & restart. 3 minutes later the dryer says “I’m dry”. Then all you have is 20 minutes warm because it will not dry on any of the programmes. I contacted Bosch & I got a PDF on how to operate a tumble dryer. No help at all.

I have a 17 yro Bosch reverse dryer and it works great When possible I line dry clothes and air in the dryer at cupboard dry setting. My daughter has heat pump setting and it takes forever

On our second Blomberg9020 vented dryer within 2 weeks. It stops and starts after every 6 minutes for 5 seconds. Is this normal. ?

It does sound odd that it would do that, but it could be the sensor monitoring the moisture level in the clothes and readjusting the time remaining.

Vented machines much quicker, much more reliable, less fuss and nonsense. Additionally, modern machines do tend to have more programmes than are absolutely necessary. Luckily I have a hedge and just throw my clothes on that.

Every time I go into a friends house & the condenser is on the air is damp , I'd almost say wet . Does anyone know if this happens with Heat pump models . My vented is getting old & the only matching dryer to my new washer is a heatpump dryer

No, the heat pump system is closed. The air in the drum and washing is a closed loop, and the water is condensed-out without that air exiting the machine. The condensor dryer, however, continously draws air in and vents it out like a vented dryer, the difference being that it tries to extract as much moisture from that exiting air but it can’t get it all. So you still get dampish air coming out. All condensor dryer manufacturer instructions I’ve seen say the room they’re in needs to be actively vented.

Yes it’s a shame some manufacturers are choosing not to make a matching vented option anymore. Heat pump dryers have terrible reliability and lifetime expectation compared to a simple vented machine.

We have a neglected, 2008, 7kg vented Zanussi dryer with sensor dry in our garage and it still works perfectly to this day. It has a significant amount of junk piled on top of it and has done for years but not a speck of rust. We just vent directly into the garage and don't even bother with the hose. A 7kg load set to cupboard costs around £1.34, so it's absolutely not worth us spending £400+ on a heat pump replacement to save 70p per full load when we only use it 2 or 3 times a month.

I've never seen a condenser dryer in the US. It strikes me that the condenser is an added complication, something that will eventually need repair. When drying clothes in the summer, this system will put an added burden on your a/c.

Holy moly, I’ve enjoyed a few of your washing machine vids with great info about energy use but in this vid you show a complete lack of understanding of the vented dryer technology!! The sensor does NOT assess the moisture content then set a time for the load. The sensor is continuously monitoring the outlet moisture content and will end the cycle depending on the set “dryness” target. That target is the”Extra dry”, “cupboard dry” or “Hand Iron” etc settings. This technology has been round for over 30 years!

Vented is not a good choice when you're looking for energy efficiency, care of delicate fabrics and when your home has strong insulation as it will create thermal breaks because of the hose. This is old technology for old houses.
