A new series diving into AOS lore as felt a little inspired by Realms of Ruin. The reforging flaw and their desperation to retain their humanity is my favorite part of Stormcast. They know that they're going to die, and that the more they come back, the more of their souls they're going to lose. Each of them knows that at some point they won't be themselves anymore, and they won't even realize the change happened. The people they're protecting have to watch their shield turn into their guillotine, and it's really sad and dark in a different way than the "everybody died, the end" approach.

Really nice video. Stormcast define a certain spirit of AOS that I liked. It's a world that lost everything, but still want to rebuild, to try again. Stormcast fails, many times, and get back at it with new scars. The idea of perseverance mesh well with me ^^ (I also like that, while they are strong, they are not Space Marines fluff level strong. They are worth ten men each. So it's not narratively wrong for them to die by the hundred against overwhelming forces) Thanks for the video. Wants more! Kruelboys for example. P. S: on a lore perspectice, the Soulsbound RPG is a wealth of lore snippet! It goes more on the daily life and small stories and is really great at that.

It’s kinda both amusing and intriguing that part of why the reforging process has the flaws it had is partially thanks to everyone’s favorite necromancer turned god of death, Nagash. Since he’s kinda the one that’s suppose to have the final say on and entitled to the souls of the dead, Sigmar’s basically breaking the laws of nature in order to do what he needs to do and keep souls away from both Nagash as well as chaos. Despite that, Sigmar can’t really stop a death god from still being able to claw back bits of those souls for himself. After all, for of of his divine might, Sigmar is still mainly a warrior, not really an expert of magic and death like Nagash who both has the power and know how to use it in order to try and achieve his own goal of killing everyone and ruling over the mortal realms completely dominated by death with him as the master of the universe.

The thing is that Nagash usurped all the other death gods, and took over their underworlds. Maybe Ionus is trying to find a way to break Nagash's hold on the underworlds.

I''d really like to know more about the Orruk Cruelboys, since they differ so much from the other Greenskindepictions in the Warhammer Games. How come they are so lanky and preffer more Goblin like tactics?

They're basically GW revisiting the old idea of half-orcs (which disappeared in newer lore as it got less rapey), they're basically Greenskins who rely more on the cunning than their sheer ferocity. They're supposed to be a sort of middle ground between the Ironjawz and Gloomspite.

happy to see this video, I went from Total War to AoS and have really enjoyed the high fantasy style of Age of Sigmar, and the setting has been starting gain some pleasing depth. Its not for everyone, I get that, but I enjoy it. Though don't have time for the people still holding a grudge on the setting over the Old World. Also don't tell those complaining this isn't Grim Dark enough about the Knights Excelsior :D

I love Stormcast Eternals and entire reason how I got into AoS was when I searched for "What happened to Felix Jaeger after end times" back in 2018 where word "Stormcast" was like second possibility which landed right into rabbit hole of these majestic warriors And now we even got Ruination Chamber "Hope when hope is dying" who are metal as hell

Good lore write-up! ⚡️ I’d be fine with either Kruleboyz or Stormkeeps. Kruleboyz seem to be your big thing so that’s come from a place of hobby joy but would be happy with Stormkeep examples & ideas as well. They’re very interesting with how they can be built with or against the Realmscapes. My favorite is one built around a specific waterfall because it’s stirred magical waters(as water in AoS is just stagnant magic that settled like silt) act as an unstable Realmgate you can travel through.

I don't mind more AoS lore. I know it isn't for me swho is not a patreon or whatever supporter to ask. But I never fully understood how the realm thing works. Is it like a planet? just flat land floating in a nothing world. What are they how do they work? Or are they just boardering each other. Can I walk from ghur to death? Or do I need portals and stuff?

It's much later, yes. In effect, the destruction of the Warhammer World (the one in Total War) lead to the Winds of Magic "coalescing" into Realms, each a massive plane of more or less habitable lands, revolving around that Wind's particular kind of magic. The Realm of Azyr is basically a heavenly plane of stars, whilst Ghyran is full of forest, swamps, oceans, etc. Some of Warhammer III's legendary characters have survived thanks to events during the End Times and have worked with Sigmar to prepare these Realms against Chaos and rebuild their respective civilisations. Chaos came back, Sigmar's alliance broke due to selfishness and mistrust and now the Realms are at war.

I didnt like age of sigmar due to how it came into being, but since realms of ruin and my growing interest in planescape ive started to appreciate it. also stormcast eternals seem more like valajar than fantasy spacemarines so i think i hate them less

Nice vid. Quick idea as a viewer, please don't repeat the same 10 second render clip (4:40 - 9:43). Let alone for half of the video. I see a lot of lore guys do this and it is simply not enjoyable to look at. I do like to watch some of those lore videos as I like seeing the artwork, but the repetition of one clip is uninteresting and unnecessary. As if I am supposed to look at it, I don't want to see it more than once. And if I am not supposed to look at it, then it shouldn't be there, and instead on piece of stagnant art or something.

To be honest im pretty disappointed from warhammer AoS. To be honest, im an 100% lore guy. Of cause i played but i realy could enjoy everything. Speacially the Books. And then Age of Sigmar came. And i must sadly say. How can this lore be seen as good? I mean sigma falls through space and finds an giant space dragon who tells him, how some random realms works, how to... idk prepare for war and get old colleagues back. And yea i know some gods interactet with each other and they picked up some dead palls from the old world. But ... that feals so hard like, yea we need a simpler Game with space marines in Fantasy. Just do it, i dont care how. I was so sad, that my loved Factions and lore where wiped ( had 3k Points high elves and some dwarfes which where rendered pretty useless) . And the new Story was just... yea. probaly not my style. F From one day to another. I switched to One Page rules now (which also have better scifi lore to be honest, without some froggy ancestor who fought some mad necrontier). Its not much lore, but the rules and base lore are free and it developse smooth. I lost my complete Trust in Games Workshop and this was before i have seen there new prices. Sorry for my rage but it slept years within me and im so sad. I would realy like to like Warhammer AoS again, but i simply cant. They would be better of, if they have just created a new Universe and reused old Models.

I admire your effort Nathan but I do feel like AOS, as part of it's quest to use increasingly unique and copyrightable phrases, just becomes unreadable. It's like a high school kid trying to use long words to show they can. I love the models but give me oldhammer or give me death

AOS ruined a lot of returning fantasy characters which I hate and the world building also sucks.. In fantasy it's well established who's where and who owns what but in AOS it's all rather jumbled. One last thing I hate is the way the renamed races like Aelves, Duardin, Orruks, Ogors and Seraphon? All these are stupid changes, if they were going to change them they could have chosen something that sounded cool and didn't make me have a stroke trying to pronounce their names lol. I wanna give AOS a chance but I can't overlook how they ruined the cooler fantasy characters..

I know what you mean, the renaming was so stupid. But believe me, AoS is really worth a second look. I hated it, but when I revisited the lore (mostly the newer) I have to say that AoS really has its Charme and the lore and characters got better and better. Now I'm love with this setting, it may not be on one level with 40k and fantasy, but if GW continued with the current quality, AoS couls become great
