Dear Sir, I had the IMM1000, landing paper, when i landed with my parent in 1997, there was no PR card, I only stayed in Canada for two weeks, then flied back to my home country, but my parent is now the canada citizens as they stayed there to fullfill the resident requirement at that time. I guess If you are under 21 years of age u have higher chance of approval for h&c prtd (if your case is similar to mine because i was a minor back in 2012 and i couldnt control my parents decision to leave so would qualify under h&c). I have one question: I was born in Canada (Montréal) but left to live in latin America in 1995 and therefore lost my residency and all other benefits related to being a Canadian resident. I'm 58 now and thinking of spending between 4 to 6 months a year in Canada so I can be close to my children and grandchildren and spend the rest of the year in some country in latin America. Is this feasible ? I do not intend to work in Canada. Would Canada as my country of birth would allow me to live there for 4 to 6 months without me paying taxes ? Are there even landlords willing to rent their properties to someone like me (retired) for 4 to 6 months with no job ?

If you were born in Canada you are legally a Canadian citizen not a permanent resident. So re entering Canada would be easy for you.

If your children and/or grandchildren are Canadian permanent residents or citizens then you will likely be eligible for a super visa. It allows you to leave and reenter the country. And, it lasts for 2 years - although this time frame may be extended further. At least there are rumblings of a legal change.

Do you know what CIC are doing with regard to COVID and residency requirements? I left Canada one month after getting PR and have not been back for two and a half years. I was intending to go back earlier this year but could not travel due to COVID. I'm concerned that if another six months passes I will be at risk of losing my PR status because I will have been outside of Canada for three years. Some people paid lots of money to come to Canada and they still had to work and support themselves, they have earned their way , if you are not self supporting, sorry go home
