Great review. I am 60, but still a regular surfer - 3-4 x per week, Aussie East Coast beach breaks. Totally agree with Nate, PJPro is a great daily driver. Very easy to paddle into any size wave, knee to head heigh. Fast & just goes! Very easy to turn & I feel like my surfing has improved on this board. Thruster setup is the one. I've been using the AMs FCS2, good drive good hold, but does not feel stiff. I have it in PU & light speed in the same dims. Both boards are great, no difference in float & paddle power, but I like the more solid feel of PU under my feet, especially in windy & choppy conditions - I guess that's a personal thing really. I was a bit worried that the tail would slide out in punchier surf, but I haven't found that at all so far. I had a Subdriver 2.0, prior to the PJPro, it's good, but also as Nate said, I have found the PJPro much much easier to surf. I know it sounds funny to say, but the PJPro makes me feel like I'm surfing perhaps better than I should be - at least better than I would on other short boards I've had. I've been having much more fun & feel like I've been able to do more on any given wave - isn't that what we are all looking for? For average beach break conditions, this board is currently my No.1 all time favourite. Beyond stoked!

Thanks Noel. Look I was a bit hesitant about this board for a while. I had thought it looked pretty similar to the Subdriver 2.0 and that maybe it came out as a bit of a marketing ploy - Lost have new models coming out all the time. But I was dead wrong. This board is gold! If anyone is on the fence about giving it a go - 'jump' over and get on one!

I spent a bit of time testing quad setups on my PJP Lightspeed and thought I could save ya’ll some time. For context, my HP surfboards are around 25-26L. My PJP is 27.5L. It’s for smaller surf on the east coast of Australia. I surf a Driver 2.0 with either AM1s or Futures Pivot’s when it’s bigger/better I first demoed the Rasta quads. These have a 50/50 foil on the rear fins. They were fast, loose, and felt nice through bottom turns. Really liked them but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on something with another setup. I then got the Pyzel 5-fin set. These are a larger medium fin. I thought they would be perfect. The flat foiled rear fins looked like they would suit the fin box placement. I surfed them in slightly hollower waves and found them unpredictable and would sometime slide out on the bottom turn. I really didn’t like these. Finally I took a gamble on a setup I thought I wouldn’t like - Ando Blackstix (they’re a large fin) in the front and QD4.0 Blackstix in the rear. And remember, I normally ride stiffer fins. The first wave I took off on I felt the flex and thought I was take these straight back out. 3 waves later and I knew I landed on the right setup. The flex helps spring out of bottom turns to generate speed and release through tops turns. It provides that spark that you want from a quad. Strangely I found these more predictable than stiffer fins, but I put that down to the 80/20 foil, and you know, water hugs to curves. Quad fins in preferential order: 1. Ando Blackstix with QD4.0 Blackstix rears 2. Rasta quad 3. Pyzel Tri-Quad

Fantastic review again Noel. Was about buy an Uber Driver XL after watching your 2019 review. Now reconsidering - at same length boards are roughly same vol and dims. This looks maybe a bit more user friendly for the “domesticated” surfer carrying a few old injuries and a couple extra lbs , like Nate so well puts it?

I hate asking questions like this but Im struggling to pick one. I live in Bali and part time in Lombok and surf beach breaks and reefs. What would you prefer, the PJ pro, the Mini Ghost, or the Dominator 2? I have a 5’7 mashup and absolutely love it as it surfs up to shoulder high really well as a 2+1, is loose and the construction is out of the world good. Im brutal with my boards and Ive had my Mashup nearly a year and it hasnt got a dent on it (touchwood) yet. No foot wells even, absolutely incredible construction considering Im heavy footed and never in my 40 years of surfing had a board with out foot wells after 10 surfs. So Im looking for something to fit in the waist to a bit over head range.

I remember you mentioned the NB2 is also an all around 1-6 one board quiver.. how would you compare between them?
@surfnshowreviews7777 Жыл бұрын
The NB2 carries more speed and pivots faster with a bit more release due to its wider chop tail. The PJ Pro is smoother rail to rail and might be a little easier to surf. If I had to choose I say NB2 for my style surfing… I like that board… it pushes me out of my comfort zone and helps me surf more radical.

hi noel! 2 questions: First as a heavy front footer, what attributes should I look for on a surfboard, more foam over the front foot and a higher rear rocker for more sensitivity or since I'm going to drive the board more with the front foot should I look for more rocker in the front and less in the back like this model? Sencond as I saw on your website, you categorize this board as a daily driver, I thought this board would be more for surfing 1 to 3 feet more in the groveler or swpb category and I was looking more at boards like the sub driver 2.0, js xero gravity , inferno 72, red tiger for surfing from 2ft to 4ft in sub par conditions. exposed this what are your thoughts ,which board should i be looking at? thanks for your time

Totally agree with you burrito. These and the one's with shapers like Britt. The firsthand insight into the board's backstory is great but having those tied to the brands in the video brings a level of bias. Even without it seems hard to find good extensive board reviews nowadays when cons aren't even discussed in the videos. It seems a lot of the time that the only place Noel ever shows his real opinions is here in the comments. I wish he stated those opinions more openly in the videos. I get the whole "every board nowadays is great" thing especially from such esteemed shapers like Matt or Britt but it'd be nice for these videos to be more of a "real review". Still love his vids though haha.
