Ah yes, a long winded explanation trying to rationalize your decision. Even if the Amazon BMW/Mini set is the wrong set, which I can almost guarantee isn't, you can still easily send it back to Amazon as "not compatible" and get your money back. And the reasons for not having Prime at the shop are pretty lame. You'd save yourself a bunch of time and money if you got stuff like this off of Amazon. I'm just a backyard mechanic and I buy the proper tools for the job. There's no excuse for a business to not have the proper tools for the job. Also, looking up Amazon warehouse locations, there are a ton of them in your area, with a 320k sq. ft. one being only about 15 minutes away from your shop and a roughly 1mil sq. ft. one about an hour away (as well as others around an hour away). You'd almost definitely get packages the same day.

Just a thought regarding the electrical tape. If you had some inch long pieces of plastic plumbing pipe, you could cut a wide enough slot in it, if required, so that it could be pushed into the hole around the nut/bolt to protect the paint/ alloy from scrapes.
@selador116 ай бұрын
I think the biggest reason for rounded off bits is less a lack of lube, and more a case of spinning too fast, and not enough pressure. As for protecting the wheel... Next time look around for a piece of pipe that fits snugly into the recess in the wheel. Even if it bottoms out on the top of the lug nut, you can drill through that with a lot less fear of damaging the wheel. I have some thin chrome pipe that would probably have fit snugly. A couple sleeves made of that, would have been tons better than some electric tape. 😁

Here is a little trick that has worked for me at least 25 times now. I get a torque wrench and add pounds to the other 4 lug nuts increments usually by about 10-15 pounds extra the wheel lock with the chisel is good to go super easy but I use the air chisel a little differently. I use a skinny sharp one to cut a legit slot then put a a flathead on I’m Milwaukee impact and comes out like butter every time. Never gets into the rim wall ever. Takes about 5 minutes. My thinking when I came up with this is take the pressure off the wheel lock gently and evenly. The most time consuming part I tend to find is figuring out what the idiot that last messed with the lugs torqued or impacted the hell out of the lug nuts.

I have found more often than not as I get deeper into the bolt/broken stud it will start to come out at some point. ( Doesn't work well on exhaust bolts though). Dear Ray. You did masterful work here. Now, for future consideration....after removing the pin in the center, try to use a hand chisel, with a hammer, maybe 24 oz. Strike the same surface you impacted with the chisel on the air hammer. Be patient. The key is to position the chisel at (starting reference angle of 90 degrees, against the plane of rotation) at 89-88 degrees. Strike repeatedly. Patience. Hard tap, hard tap, etc. Watch for movement. If you look at the first item, removed, you will note that the angle of (I guess, look) 85 degrees worked better that the sharper angle. The message of this whole MOST Annoying event, is that you are slowly destroying your arms and shoulders. You deserve to make a lot of money, to offset the body risks involved. How many customers could remove these fasteners???? Maybe 1 in 10,000?? The owner should have acquired the correct removal device, before asking you to do the virtually impossible. You really did Yeoman's Work here. Great effort.....You never give in!!!! Bravo!
