would be awesome if a community was made for people to upload their car scans

Sounds sweet. Also these new 3D scanners look amazing.

I think I would have ended up giving up on the scanner and just building a series of prototype panels and refine them until I get something suitable to make a mold. But given how much I have been printing recently I bet the knowledge you gained for scanning would end up having ao much more utility long term.

Absolutely! The techniques can transfer not only to other cars but other objects in general. Using the 3d scanner gets easier and easier for sure. With that said either approach is awesome bc we’re both learning to refine a new skill

I'm appreciating going through your body of work and the varied products youve done. Im subbing and will look forward to following your projects. A quick question for you that may end up being a tip that could help you on future scans. I have an Einstar scanner so a close relative but not nearly as fancy as your HX. Can you still take advantage of texture alignment when using the laser scanning mode? If so you might find that with the right scan spray technique you will have no need for markers. I am able to scan large areas with almost no shape/features at all (even large pieces of flat glass) using the Einstar with texture alignment. The way I have been able to do that is by using a scan spray method similar yours with a few minor differences, however what you have done may work just fine as well. In ny case I mix talc powder with the alcohol and spray it out of an HVLP gun. I lay down a first light coat at higher pressure to create an even matte surface. After that flashes off I come back with a second coat where the pressure is turned down to a bit to low to aromize well so larger droplets land on the scanning surface. I have found those spots and their relative patterns between them to be more than sufficient for texture alignment purposes. Hopefully you or someone else reading this will find this method helpful. Im not sure if theres any downsides for this application (car body panels) such as more processing load but it has worked well for me. If you can use laser scanning mode together with texture alignment then you should experience even better success than I can/have as your data should be cleaner.

Hey, I like your Honda Beat....and I'm trying to find the crowd that actually "builds" import cars. Are there any clubs or shows that you can recommend near L.A. or Ventura?
@IMEEMADE2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Trying to find a crowd like that too. My favorite show is JCCS in Long Beach but that show was early Oct. there is Supercar Sundays in Ventura (I think) open for anyone to go to, I’m sure you can find people in that crowd
