I was born in 65, this is the first music that I knew.. Osmond’s, Jackson 5.. variety shows with mom, dad, & my sis, how can I not like them? Some might say corny, well yeah, it was the 60’s early 70’s!! With today’s eyes, it all was. I loved my childhood, the music, the environment my parents raised us in, was happy- and this music brings it all back for a few minutes. By the way, those that know how to play an instrument, even dabbled in it a little knows, these kids had talent just pouring out of their pores. My heart breaks for them, their old man was a douche bag, not just a bad manager.. We just watched their latest documentary, wow, I knew it was bad but not that bad.. my thoughts and prayers are with them.. may the ones that are still with us heal, and those that have passed, may they Rest In Peace

Very talented family of musicians. The first time I heard this song which was about 2 weeks ago, I couldn't stop playing it because I couldn't believe it was the Cowsills but it is. At 59, I find it a blessing that I can still discover new a new song and still have the hair on my neck stand. I am surprised I missed this one, better late than never.

Thank you for the Cowsills' documentary. I must've seen it about 5 times already. Susan and I are about he same age today. I turn 54 in December. When I first heard this song at the end of the documentary, I feel in love w/it. It brings back memories of my own life and childhood, as the song says "they were some good years! (I miss my parents)

Wow the dates on some of this film footage is 10-29-67. Exactly 54 years ago. Never knew of this family until recently. What a talented bunch and what a different world it is now. Back then I remember when Sunday nights were watching Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom and The Wonderful World of Disney. Not the garbage on TV now.

I love this song. I played music professionally for years, and had no clue they / Bob could write / record / produce like this. I have watched the documentary twice. And it moved me so much. I am almost 52 years old. I grew up with the Cowsills. Watching your film was like reconnecting with old friends that I really did not know that well. But getting to know who they really are was a wonderful gift. Growing up in Philly, I remember hearing "Indian Lake" countless times on WFIL, as well as "Hair" and of course,"The Rain,The Park and Other Things" Such a great story of music,love, tragedy and family. I notice a quite a few of those clips were without Bill. As a dad, myself, I can't imagine kicking any of my children out of the "band" or in Richard's case, never letting him try out to be in the band in the first place. The documentary allows Bill to explain what a sick man his father was and how he himself didn't fall to far from his dad's branch of the family tree. Quite possibly the reason Bud disliked Bill and Dick as much as he did. Maybe they were just too much like him and it was like having to see his own reflection in a mirror. It also pains me that Barry (being the same age as me as well as being a fellow kid bassist) seemingly tried real hard (as did John), to smooth over the family rifts. I think Bill, John, and Susan had similar singing styles and vocal chops. Barry and Dick both had gruff grainy voices which are great for singing blues and rock. Such talent. Such heartbreak. In the '60s and '70s I wasn't a fan of the Bubble-Gum genre, but as a seasoned musician that can appreciate their gifts, I have a whole new respect for this family band. Rip, Barbara, Barry, Bill, and Richard...and even Bud. I cherish my kids enough to not let my psychosis get in the way of treating each one like the special gift from God that they are. Maybe in heaven, their circle will be complete and unbroken.

Unbelievably great song. Watched the documentary and had to buy the DVD. What an incredible family. I am glad they still perform. I remember them from back in the day. John inspired me to play drums...the Cowsill kids roughly parallel my siblings and I in age so their story resonates on a personal level. For those that don’t know, there is a documentary about The Cowsills entitled “Family Band::The Cowsills”. It is available for free on Amazon Prime. There is also a second documentary that uses footage that did not make it into the first one. They are hard to watch at times because of the father (Bud) and how he ruled the family with an iron fist. Still, it is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Everytime I see this, I still laugh whenever I hear Barry say, "The luncheon cave, the luncheon cave." His voice and they way he says it is so cute & funny. Sometimes when I'm doing some cleaning or something around the house, I say, "the luncheon cave, the luncheon cave" to my self and chuckle. I really believe that the Cowsills kids would've made the Partridge Family TV show an even bigger hit than it was. Everyone in the Cowsills had real talent, they could all could perform live, they had more charisma and natural interactions than their PF counterparts, and they were the REAL family. I really, REALLY wish that could've worked out.

I would have loved to see that. I was never a Partridge Family fan myself. David Cassidy didn't do it for me. I think The Cowsills had way more talent and I would have been a fan had it been them instead of a Hollywood made up family (except Shirley Jones was David Cassidy's stepmother) and the fact that only 2 of the Partridge Family actually sang speaks volumes. The Cowsills all sang and played their own instruments. They were from Rhode Island and I lived in Rhode Island in 1968 and part of 1969.

Thanks Louise for this documentary. I've must've seen it at least 5 times. I loved the raw integrity and the honesty amongst the siblings. At the conclusion when I I heard the song "Some Good Years", I was immediately in love with it. I grew up during those times, and I am the same age as the youngest Cowsiil, which is Susan . So I've had some good years too. I miss my parents though, but they are and always a part of my memories. Thank you.

I loved this group! The 60's was a great time to be a kid. The firing of Bill was the beginning of the end of the group. Great documentary about the family, as I look at Barry as he aged, he could have passed as Bobby Sherman. Cutie!

Louise, what a wonderful tribute in the memory of Barry and Bill. The artifacts of time code make me slip into the renaissance of when tape was 2 inches wide and I was the Stage lighting engineer at Melodyland for the show, after, the group met us at Radio Station KEZY in Anaheim where Mark Dennis interviewed the group.
