We already have ballistic helmets. They don't stop straight on shots. They're made for glancing blows and shrapnel. Getting shot in the head while wearing one, assuming no penetration, can still lead to death. A projectile with tons of force going at supersonic speeds is far harder than getting punched. Punches kill people all the time. It amazes me how everyone has an idea but no knowledge to back up the asinine claims they make.

If you are thankful to them, campaign to your local congressperson for proper gun control. The fact that the nation has over 400 million guns, many of them unaccounted for, is the main thing that makes their job so dangerous. It also contributes to police shootings as they have to assume everyone has a gun as well.
