It is so wonderful the zoos are able to help these babies. He is the third one with this situation. The first is with his family and other was fostered by another gorilla at the zoo.

Aww! So precious! I wonder why it is that some Mom's don't bond with their babies? It usually is just so instinctual, unless they're sick or injured. It's just amazing the musculature even a young infant gorilla has!

Usually when they are abandoned it's because something is wrong with them, then a second chance at a bonding that didn't work🤷🏼‍♀️hello🤦🏼‍♀️

Not necessarily. It could be that his mom is just a first-time mom with zero experience. Primates learn mothering skills from their own mothers with siblings or from other females in the troop. Akenji may not have had any other females to learn from. Some zoos will have their primates watch videos to learn from in this situation and sometimes that's successful and other times not. I'm not sure if Woodland Park Zoo (which is local to me here in WA State) did that or not.

I can’t help but feel these zoo’s are just selling these baby gorillas to the highest bidders, that’s just my opinion and I could be wrong, but it seems a little strange that in almost every single case the baby gets moved hundreds of miles away to another zoo

If they get sent to another location be grateful there was one to take him and give him the care he needs to grow, hopefully he got a surrogate mother that will nurture him!
