Dr. H I am still confused by the contrast between your (and others') reaction to Bartise and his statements and actions vs those of Cole. Cole was constantly challenged and tested by Zaneb and was reacting to a tense judgemental environment which many translated as his own sexist behavior that was NOT objectively observable, yet led many to assume a nefarious intent despite the lack of direct example to support such a claim. Any statement by Cole was translated in the most insulting and harmful way, despite the obvious contextual clues that indicated otherwise. Yet Bartise brings up a topic to point out how hot and attractive another woman is while his partner silently watches with clear hurt in her eyes, yet there is none of the presumption that he has any ill intent whatsoever. His claim that a birth defect (like downs syndrome) was not reason to terminate a pregnancy, but a simple unplanned pregnancy when one is young WAS a valid reason is revealing about his values. (His claim that being LGBTQ+ WAS a birth defect also is revelatory). Bartise is trying to redeem himself yet cannot say he was wrong... he was simply being "brutally honest." He got that half right: he is brutal. He exhibits traits of a self assured, egotistical player whose best skill is manipulation of others through charm and strategy, but displays very little real insight. I don't get it. TLDR: Bartise gets a pass while Cole is assumed malicious
@honeyryderchile2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, Bartise got sooo much benefit of the doubt and leeway, even though what he told Nancy about Raven, several times, totally unsolicited, would have been much more hurtful to me. I also thought Nancy was such a sweetheart. And I don't ever remember Bartise really apologize or tell Nancy how beautiful she was too. It was odd to me how much grace Bartise got, where most of Cole's actions seemed framed as nefarious.
@Aaron-kj8dv2 жыл бұрын
I'm starting to wonder about this too. If you had to choose one of them to date your sister which would you choose? Cole is a dope, but he seems like he means well. Bartise is the type to knock a girl up and then block her on all social media lol I actually have a half baked idea on why there's a difference in perception between Bartise and Cole. For me, growing up I've lived in 4 states and 3 countries. That means I've met A LOT of people from different areas. I tend to get my opinions on a persons character from ignoring what they say and watching what they do. I just sit back and watch like I'm in a zoo. I think others put a lot of stock in words spoken, which to me is very child like, but whatever. If you were to judge these 2 men on how they speak you see Bartise is a lot more smooth and slippery than Cole (something I tend to see as rehearsed and manipulative) and Cole's communication is so clunky and lacks nuance.

I'm pretty neutral between Cole and Zanab, so I'm getting the strong impression that Zanab is being roasted way more than Cole. Don't get me wrong, I think they were both being a handful and I wouldn't want to date either of them, but I think siding with Zaneb is the unpopular opinion. It's usually the women being assumed to be vindictive and manipulative, while the men are assumed to just be naive, innocent and boyish. When a woman overreacts on the show, people are absolutely sure she has an agenda, while men are just powerless over their words and actions. I think that's demeaning to both genders. Just an impression from the sidelines.

I may be misjudging him but this interview just confirmed what I thought about him all along, he's pretty self-centered and whatever he says remotely partaining to others is just to save his face. The whole abortion debate had nothing to do with his own opinion, he probably never even thought about it or had an opinion but the cogs were turning hard on how to be the good guy in that conversation, instead of actually focusing on how that discussion may be relevant to them as a couple. It boils down to the fact that from day one out of the pods he knew Nancy was a no for him but due to the show he was in a situation where he needed to play it up to not seem shallow. I would say it is his personality at fault but also the way the show is designed, and together it just gave a really damaging result. As much as I enjoy this content I don't think Bartise should be given more limelight, I wish it would fizzle out, he's just not that interesting.
@Ferreneh2 жыл бұрын
You're so right about the abortion convo. I think Bart saw his opportunity to disagree with Nancy & to push her away, but his reasonings were shallow. Nancy gave some really logical & agreeable answers because apparently she's been thinking about it a lot, and he just hasn't. Wanted to look like a good guy but came out an incompetent fool. And the whole relationship is like a textbook "a lot of talk, little action". I found it very telling that Bart was hyping himself up throughout, even saying on the wedding day "I'm gonna take that ring & put it in her finger, to show I'm in it for life" or something to that effect... Then I knew he was going to say no. The whole thing is just cringy and I just wish he would have more insight & a true learning curve, but that seems unlikely. I hate it when there's so many men who really don't know who they are or what they want & they just talk a lot of talk to seem like an ideal guy they think women like, because they want a constant stream of ego boosts. They just end up hurting a lot a ladies & themselves in the process

Maybe the best therapy for fledgling therapists is to go through therapy? I have no idea, but I like this anecdote. I actually had to listen to this twice. I’ve been listening to this after having a fight with my boyfriend. And I left the house and started tinkering with my car. He’s not easy to have certain conversations with. But this idea that there is an opportunity to have a conversation and we should stick it out. As much as I don’t want to, I’m going back inside. Thanks. Hope it goes well. And just to be clear, I have no interest in talking. But I’m going back. That’s something. It’s a start I guess
@litarivera-cortes1462 жыл бұрын
Maybe Bartiste’s approach to Nancy DOES have something to do with him knowing exactly how it feels to be rejected. Maybe rejection from someone other than a love interest. Society. His parents. The two cultures that are his life as a biracial person. I think we assume just because somebody is good looking they haven’t experienced rejection. Sometimes the hot adult guy went through an awkward phase when they were younger.. he needs that Barbie doll type girl on his arm in compensation for something. Some type of hurt or insecurity. Maybe it gives him a sense of control he feels he doesn’t have or didn’t in the past. Maybe he’s retaliating. Or needs her to hurt like he does to feel better about himself.. The options are endless. Isn’t Psych fun. Love it. Well there’s no fun in peoples hurt. I meant psych is intriguing I agree though the awareness is definitely not there. The why behind it. Therefore doomed to repeat
@niccole3542 Жыл бұрын
Sure he may have done this because he may have been rejected of course we don't really know him to know if he had faced rejection.But if he had,it doesn't excuse him from just saying that he finds another woman physically attractive over his own fiancee and not care if she is hurt by that comparison.He seemed like he wasn't fully interested in Nancy but still continued on and waited to say no at the altar.He simply does not give af about her being heartbroken which is sad cause Nancy seemed like a sweet girl who couldn't see all the red flags up until the wedding.

I don’t think that what he did is so terrible considering the situation he was in.. And I think Nancy deserved what she got.. I don’t understand people who say that she deserves better bc I think she got what she signed up for - Bartise had red flags all over him, so it’s hard to believe that Nancy really did not set herself up for what happened. It’s not like he held back! So I think Nancy was also immature, and I hope she learned from the experience.

I half agree, I don't like Bartise. I think he's the type of guy who's super self absorbed and then gives these half assed insights when you hold him accountable. Just enough to make you think he understands why his behavior was unacceptable but just goes right back to his owns way. I do agree that Nancy got what she deserved. Bartise could've taken a megaphone and held it directly to her ear and screamed that he's not into her and she'd still say yes at the alter. Then after that it really felt like she projected all of her frustrations with Bartise onto Cole and went super hard on him. I don't like Cole but Bartise is way worse than Cole in cany universe so thanking Bartise for his honesty and then drilling down on Cole was immature and I was actually very confused because I was wondering if I missed something.
@Selenas6272 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. We literally don’t know these people at the end of the day enough to comment on their character. Maybe we can say we don’t like certain behaviors that were done, but all the character assassination is so illogical and honestly inhumane. Reducing peoples worth and character to the few hours or minutes we saw of them on reality TV is ridiculous.
