And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in front of a 82k+ people. I felt already the powerful energy, you're in. Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan: " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Nightwish invented the category of Orchestral/Symphonic Metal. Their entire set from the Wacken Festival in Germany @ but for full effect you REALLY REALLY need to watch this @ Band was formed in 1996 with Tarja as their front vocalist. Annette was the second and had a great studio voice but couldn't carry it on tour so she was replaced by Floor Jansen who remains their current vocalist. Marco (bassist) does vocals as well and Tuomas (keboards) has written everything for the band since it was formed. The music, score, lyrics, transitions....everything. He is on a completely different level than any writer.. Band is from Finland but Floor is from Denmark. She is also a voice coach and teacher. The epitome of theatrics during performance. She commands the attention and reactions of the crowd

The best word to describe that lady and the others in the still you showed is "ecstasy." Floor Jansen and Nightwish have that audience of 82,000 transfixed, almost like they're under her spell. The other thing that strikes me about her is the way she stands and her hand motions (very powerful, and purposeful). And that drummer back there goin' ham!

Well, you've just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch). Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. She Can scream. And growl. And sing like an angel. And growl again. Floor sings emotions, not words. Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of their Imaginaerum world tour in late 2012 (which includes this show from August 2013). Previous singer, Anette Olzon (she's currently in Dark Element) left the band while they were touring, and there was no certainty what to do with all the upcoming shows. They called Floor (her previous band did tour with NW in the past, and they knew each other). Floor flew immediately to help them out and temporarily replace Anette for the rest of the world tour. She arrived two days before the next show, and she had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist. And she did. After the world tour (in October 2013), they made Floor their official member. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark. Nightwish formed in '96 in Finland, initially with Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen as a vocalist. She left the band in 2005, and Anette Olzon stepped in, until 2012. The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too. He has his own solo project outside the Nightwish. The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas. Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues. Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song. Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs. They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff. Studio versions are just appetizers. Nightwist is best served live. This song was taken from the Wacken Open Air metal festival in 2013 where Nightwish headlined in front of 82.000 metalfans. Take your pick from that setlist - you will not be disappointed.

Seams to me most reactors miss this one girl with the curly hair and the one lady in total trance. Welcome to the NIghtwish world wide community. You mentioned studio version. I think you'll be disappointed, but give it a try. I think you will join most of us who believe they are made for live concerts. They are tight, polished, top rate stage presence, especially Floor, and their production quality is best anywhere. Keep in mind this was live, no studio gimmicks or tricks and no do overs. Every song is a unique journey of its own thanks to the genius of Tuomas, keyboards, who writes music and lyrics for most of their songs. The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. You'll definitely enjoy Nightwish if filmscores are your thing! They're a major influence for them (alongside some folk and progressive elements, plus of course more traditional metal stuff) and they even have completely instrumental/orchestral versions of the last few albums (and this song, too) if you're interested. Hans Zimmer, one of the biggest idols of the songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, pretty much considers him an equal these days so that says something of the talent level too. :)

What I love about watching reactions, especially from the US, is how insulated and isolated they are musically. They're amazed that there a over 80k people at Wacken, they don't know what or where Wacken is and they never knew that Symphonic Metal existed. They are so engrossed in their genre and/or sub genre of music that nothing else exists. Really it's sad to see such musical ignorance, but they're only Yanks.

Tuomas, the keyboardist and main songwriter, is also highly influenced by movie score composers. Zimmer, for one, and many others. Floor, the singer and the engineer of the "Floorgasm" you just received, is Dutch, and their 3rd female lead since the Tuomas formed the band in 1996. The original was long before Floor who had just joined them when this concert aired, and therefore you won't find her on the studio version. Storytime, Song Of Myself, Ever Dream, Romanticide from Wacken should be in your immediate pipeline for sure. After that, the journey gets started haha Have fun Watson!

It's The London Philharmonic Orchestra and a choir as is normal for Nightwish, diigitised and controlled by the genius keyboard player and composer, as you will find out on the journey down the rabbit hole as that is surely where you're going ably assisted by the Nightwish Army already gathered here. The melody you were asking about, is middle ages central and north European style music. You hear this kind of music today in Nordic folklore, Ireland, Nordic countries, or in movies playing in the middle ages.

You've just been Floorgasmed! You must share this with 20 friends! Nah brah! You've just been introduced to the symphonic-metal that is Nightwish. They are the kings of the genre. Their music definitely takes you away to other lands. The singer's name is Floor Jansen (hence the "Floorgasm" term.) She is a treasure! Sang in several metal bands before finally landing the spot in Nightwish. She is the 3rd singer to be in this band (Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon previously.) And yeah, she's a giant -- she stands at 6'1"! My suggestions: "Storytime (Wacken live 2013)" "Ever Dream" (Wacken live 2013) "Romanticide (Wacken live 2013) In fact, that entire Wacken 2013 is worth checking out.

So brah did you have another workout? The album that this song is originally from - called "Once" - was my work out music a few years ago! It was the first album by Nightwish I ever heard and so that's how I got hooked!

Welcome! The Nightwish Army cometh, and that right soon! I see Gabriel has been here. He's got The List(TM) and is generally the man with the plan. What you have there is a Finnish band with a Dutch lead singer singing English at a German music festival. Well, Floor, the vocalist, claims to be Dutch....most of us consider her to be a Valkyrie, so likely more Asgardian than Dutch, but that's splitting hairs. It's hard to go wrong with Nightwish. Are all their songs like that? Um. Kinda sorta yeah, but no not really. They are all recognizably Nightwish, but each one is a different thing all to its own. Dive down, man...it's a wild ride. Everything from Wacken is golden.....that was, apparently, a magical night. Have fun!

Them being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the long epic multipart full production type songs like Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth.. Then they have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs like Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders.. They even have a very celtic rock sound going on in songs like E'lan or My Walden.. You chose, but the Nightwish Army loves it all..

The lads in the band are Finnish, Floor the singer, is Dutch. They also have a British multi-instrumentalist/singer, Troy, who doesn't appear on this track.
