Middle aged INTP here. I've rarely had any sort of conflict with an INTJ. They've typically been very kind to me, which has usually left me just a little bit baffled and confused, but very grateful to them for treating me like a human being. I've shared the story many times before, but one of my fondest memories from my younger years is when I had both an INTJ (now deceased, RIP) and ENTP in my little social circle, and I got the opportunity to watch them debate anything and everything the ENTP could think up with which to poke at the INTJ. No one got upset or had their feelings hurt. It was mental sparring and it was great. The SJs and others in the group would get worried and unhappy with their "arguing," but that was because they didn't understand the NT mind.

I was thinking it takes a lot to upset us , and yes, we love the true nerds something awful. For myself, I can only take so much debate, but I never flame, I’ll just drop out until the time is right to pick up again or move on. I’ve never even unfriended someone because of an argument, just for rudeness
@SlimThrull

I've always been curious how the other types (non-INTJs) see my verbal sparring with someone else. To me, a debate is a wonderful time. I relish few things more in life than an honest, straightforward debate. However, I've had others confront me that it was being "too harsh" when debating others. At first, I thought this was nonsense. However, when more and more people kept mentioning it, I started asking whoever I had debated if they thought I was being harsh. The answer was almost always, "No! Why would you think that?" Quite curious that the two people debating didn't think anyone was being harsh or overly critical, but people who witnessed it had.
@jimclayson
@jimclayson Жыл бұрын
@@SlimThrull I (INTP) find it entertaining and sometimes educational... which is the same thing, more often than not. Most other types seem to be interested in social harmony (which I'm all for, but social avoidance is more my speed) and/or what they "feel is true" (oy vey, that one hurts) over ACTUAL truth. While we may have biases on certain topics (grilled cheese sandwiches are to be cut DIAGONALLY, you BARBARIANS!), we NTs understand there's a gap (frequently a chasm) between feelings and truth. Social niceties like tone of voice and body language take a back seat. We may stare hard at someone with a scowl of concentration. Fe-types get the impression we're angry, but we're just contemplating the implications of what's being discussed. Fi-types can't let go of their biases and assume we must be passionate about our side of the argument. We're just trying to make use of the opportunity to more fully understand the concepts being thrown around and gain a clearer insight into how reality functions... because that's what we do. Some non-NTs can do it well enough, particularly if they've spent enough time with NTs, but it's foreign to them... like asking a typical INTP to dance.

INTJ here, my boyfriend is ISTP and we still haven't mourdered anyone, but we completed many projects and ideas together. I usually do the plan, and he does the action-reaction when something interrupt our plan. Simple example of what happend one summer: I plan the whole day for us. Everything was going well, we still had one thing to do before we go to the restaurant, but we overheard a schooltrip [aka many hungry kids and teachers] was heading to the restaurant that moment, so my boyfriend said, that we needed to f**k the plan for a moment, run as fast as we could to that restaurant to order food before the kiddo-army take the place. We did as he suggested, decided to eat our ordered food outside of the restaurant, and while eating I could peacefully make ajustements to my plan. The rest of the day went fine. It's a rether simple story, but it shows well how we cooperate. So as much as I don't know anything about James Bond I think you've describe it decently.

This list might differ for male and female INTJs and also age / maturity. As a female INTJ in my early 30s, I’d say that INFJs are the type who are the same as us (instead of ENTJs), except they are nicer. People who don’t know me well enough might confuse me for an INFJ since I can play the social game when I have to. I don’t see INFJs as wasting their skill. I actually admire their ability to use their intuition and apply it towards people rather than ideas. It comes in handy a lot in life, as evidenced by the fact that they can even get me to adore and respect them which is a tough thing to do!! And as you get older, you also develop an appreciation for people who can navigate the “science of people” more and more. Also, my experience with INFJs has been that we always come to the same conclusions but we come to those conclusions in different ways. ENTJs are also similar to INTJs but INFJs have way more similarities with us in my opinion.
@signalfire15
@signalfire15 Жыл бұрын
I want to add to this that different types bring out different sides to each person. When I am with an INFJ, I feel like I am home. Like I am understood 100%. And my softness and affection comes out more because I am around someone who won’t judge me and take the time to try to understand me and give me the benefit of the doubt. When I am around ENTJs, my hardness comes out (but not in a bad way). We’re like a power couple, very dynamic and every conversation ends in world domination. I also can be myself around ENTJs but the side of myself that comes out most often around them is the side that I don’t necessary like all the time. So ENTJs can appeal to my ambitious side which is a part of me but a larger part of me is my desire to understand and theorize about the world and the only type that can get me to enter that zone fully and immerse myself in it is the INFJ, because that is also their primary mode of living.

I love the INTJs in my life and also admire some of the fictional characters. I wish I had their honesty and their deep hearts. INTJs are very caring, but they curate and prioritize who and what they care about and don't waste their affection by sending it in what are probably fruitless directions. Their approach to relationships makes so much sense to me and I love that confidence and shameless self focus that they embody so well.

100% agree with everything you said here. My older sibling is an ENTJ, and while we're quite similar in many ways, our interactions are much more "cut throat" and almost always revolve around achieving/conquering and discussing practical real world strategies related to that. Which can be great, but despite the fact that I'm probably even more ambitious and cut throat than he is, it eventually starts to feel overbearing, and deep down it always feels that I can't quite "be myself" for lack of a better word. If I truly let out the things I most want to discuss ("theorizing about the world" as you said) the ENTJ won't be interested and will mostly just see it as unnecessary mental masturbation. Or anything that involves personal vulnerabilities, weaknesses etc. they'll be very uncomfortable with. As a result it always feels like I'm hiding the deepest aspects of myself, whereas with INFJ that can all come out and is openly received and understood. It's like being at home with another version of myself, but a softer one, which is nice. Our differences can cause us to clash at times (INTJ desire for cold hard truth at all costs versus INFJ wanting to appeal to people's sensitivities - this can be frustrating for both types), but that difference can also provide a nice counterbalance if both individuals are mature.

One thing I can say is INTJ is good companion for INFJ, like me and my cousin. INFJs can have issues with actualizing their ideas and while trying to be organized, it's not as clean. INTJs can understand where you want to go and can push you in that path without sugar coating (more efficient). Beneficial symbiosis, gives the edge to INFJs desire for perfection that it wants to share with others including fellow INTJ. One example of that interaction is the Oracle and Architect from Matrix trilogy. One is designing the system, other is probing the system, searching for issues within in search of perfection of the Matrix.

I have typed my dad as an INTJ. He has once said to me that he finds more interest in things than people. As an INFJ, I almost envy his ability to focus on and be more passionate about more 'practical' matters like engineering. I too have an interest in science and learning how the world works and use opportunities surrounding these topics to bond with him. While I have learned to embrace my interest in people and psychology, it would be nice to be able to disconnect from the emotional side of my brain more often which can be so tightly linked to my relations with other people like he can.

I am an INTJ with a deep interest in people and psychology (not so much engineering or science, although I do spend a lot of time on those subjects too), and I'm sure many here who are into mbti are the same. The main difference that is interesting here is in the approach and the process of arrival toward the motivation to pursue whatever it is that is interesting to each, rather than the contents of what you find interesting (although of course, there is no doubt correlation in that regard as well).

We are always semi-connected to our emotions. We FEEL them very very deeply but they do not really guide what we do, which often makes life even more painful. Nietzsche talked about this as a kind of "cruelty" to ourselves in the name of "honesty" and "intellectual conscience." When this cruelty runs out of control we can be very cruel to others even though it is not what we want in our hearts.

They seem to be a bit less advanced (not in a negative way, just less weird) than us 3) INFJs are also pretty relatable. They seem to be a more advanced (also not in a negative way) version of us. Essentially, they are more socially compatible, but they're a bit less "thoughtful/intellectual" than INTJs. Basically the better version. But I think sacrificing the first part for the second part is better. I mean INFJs are more "socially accepted". 4) ISTJs are the most loyal people. "While I relate a lot with INTPs. It seems they do everything in the wrong way..." Yeah, as an INTP, that jives with my experience. INTJs have set procedures, optimized over time and experience, for just about everything. INTPs haven't even considered most of the things on which INTJs have already come to conclusions. We get caught up in all the "what if?" scenarios in our heads and lack practical application... but we can also follow sound, logical reasoning and we're not argumentative (despite what some think). INTJs deal with "real world" scenarios better than us most of the time, while we have our heads in the clouds. At the same time, INTJs seem strangely patient with us, never taking offense and being willing to discuss any topic, which is just about all we ever want from others.

I always take my time in every area, being sure to thoroughly scour every corner for loot, enemies and everything, so as to miss nothing. If I'm on my way to another area, but 'accidentally' reveal a new cave or hut or area of some kind, I feel the need to conquer this area presently and completely, so I know for a fact that the area has been completed if it's opened on the map. I saw somewhere that INTJs and ISTJs might find it hard to think of things to talk about and I find that’s true for us as well.

When doing things together with my INTJ friend, we have lots of same thoughts and we have the same style of ordering other people aswell. But once we have nothing to do, it really is hard for us to start a convo, it already is hard just by being both introverted and judging, but our ni and si is so contradicting while still having similarities

Weirdly enough, ENTJ's can be less adaptable than INTJ's. Due to ENTJ's more controlling nature, if they loose their control or loose the fuel for their Ni, they can sometimes struggle a lot. While the Ni hero if INTJ's, has a "I can always find a way" mindset

Being an ENTJ-A, I really don't have the need to have control over others. However people naturally gravitate willing for my leadership and often that control becomes naturally to me because of my ET. People like my presences, and I have no idea why. I also have very "if you want something done right, I'll do it myself," attitude too. Control over others, people tend to come to me, I force nothing anyone wants to do because I can easily due without them, in fact, I'll find plow through anything to find a solution if I have to do myself. If I have a controlling nature, it would be self control and my self discipline. I haven't met an ENTJ yet who would bother with people who are not willing to be part of the team. Especially because we have our notorious "my way or the highway," mindset. We tend to adapt to the situation at that very moment, and we are great under pressure I can tell you as one of our trusty super powers.

Intej here; an awesome video, many of my thoughts were approved. INTP section is a section of Nathan's appreciation)) yes, we love you, Nathan, you're a gold mine indeed. True about INFJ. Like I said, my relations with my friend, although he said he doesn't share all of the infej's qualities. I'm his personal distractor, provoker and ass-kicker, and he's my personal portative conscience. I don't think he wastes his personal skill, rather he wastes his personal time on doing nothing and indecision. My grandma is ESFJ, and our communication is really conflictable, as she's always interested in affairs of someone else and I don't like when someone is too aware of my affairs, it makes me feel as being predictable. Also, my grandma is more inclined to beliefs rather than logical conclusions, so it's often useless to argue with her productively. True about ENTJ, I also have a need to be more offensive and active towards the world, but I'm too cautios for that; and when I meet people like ENTJ, their assertiveness and peremptoryness provoke me for a conflict. Though I, as an INTJ, don't incline to satisfy other people's taste and tact, I appreciate and try my best to abide by common social respect and understanding. So, when I meet an ENTJ, I generate a hardly containable wish to bring down their arrogance. Somehow the same idea about INTJ section - we have already produced an "INTJ army" meme here in comments - two similar in their social difficulties, control orientation and critical mind would hardly make a good partnership. I might have a discreet idea that every (or majority of) INTJ secretly hates oneself to a certain extent; the healthier an INTJ is, the less is their self-hatred. Not even mentioning another INTJ.

I could offend her just for wanting to improve some ordinary process that was inefficient, and if she made that apparent my explanation would make her angry or hurt in some way. I get that nobody wants to hear that the way they load the dishwasher is inefficient by their teenage kid, but my thought is, at least let me explain my logic so you can tell me if I’m right or not!

The comments are fascinating and bum me out that I never had a chance to have a close INTJ friend. I'm an INFJ who mostly had INFP, INTP, and ENFJ people to nerd out with. While they all give it their best shot, my endurance for speculative theory craft out lasts them all. I also like those types for the same reasons INTJs do (ENFJs may bother me less and I just wish the INTPs would let me drag them to the path of happiness I know they can achieve but they talk themselves out of.) The idea of someone I could speculate with on any and everything who would be less bored/triggered sounds amazing. I think I'm drawn to the creative vulnerability that INPs exude and might not have been as quick to approach INTJs thinking I had nothing to offer them specifically as the exude more self-contained contentment.

My INTP brother, who I get along with very well also, does not have such overlap with our dad. It’s so interesting to see that their huge common-ground turns into treading on each other’s toes more often than not. And whilst they have a good relationship in that they love each other, if it weren’t for my mother and I, I’m not sure they’d ever actually talk much. And not out of animosity. Fascinating.

Gather vs scatter. If one uses Ni-Se axis they will need to assemble pieces of sensory data while aligning the idea behind it. Finding a connection between A to B to C, a thread that connects seemingly unconnected pieces of information. Ne- Si needs to align sensory information on the inside while offering new connections between them. If we were to visualize this, Ne - Si will take a deck of cards and throw one card on the left side, one on the right side, one behind a chair, under a table,… Switch it up for Ni - Se. Finding the cards in order to form a deck. “Narrow” as a word is often taken literally. 1. Perceiving functions (in itself) don’t have an ‘it is’ or ‘it isn’t’ attitude. Decision making functions do. 2. One can’t narrow from narrow. It has to go from somewhere. And the opposite is true. One cannot expand from expansion. It needs to have a point where it all began.

I've always found it interesting how INTJs/INTPs can get along nicely, even though they can sometimes be seen as enemies in certain shows or just all around irl. Bill Gates-INTP/Elon Musk-INTJ Dr.Manhattan-INTP/Ozymandias-INTJ Kisuke Urahara-INTP/Soskue Aizen-INTJ I'm an INTP, and INTJs seem extremely intelligent and hate wasting their time. They also have this particular skill that I've noticed from certain characters from time to time, but they can be Masters of Manipulation and somehow use people as pawns to reach their own goals. I can significantly respect this, as I see this as a battle of wits. INTJs can defeat the powerful mind that an INTP possesses as INTPs can be gullible at times as they don't really care for anything they have little to no interest in, so with that in mind, I believe if they were to stay in the shadows for too long, they could potentially surpass anyone. Funny enough, that would be the only way an INTJ could defeat an INTP, as INTPs can know when something is false or true. INTJs are more tactful, as where INTPs are better at strategizing. Think of it like this, Ozymandias aka "The Smartest Man In The World," had defeated Dr.Manhattan, aka "The Smartest Being In Existence, as he had used Manhattan's powers to energize his weapon, and without Manhattan, his weapon would be deemed useless. Manhattan was gullible, as he believed Ozymandias was a friend, as they were once part of a group fighting for the common good, but this was all a façade to get into the minds of people and for society to see him as a hero. Dr.Manhattan was then forced to live on Mars, as everyone had deemed him an issue, and taking more chances with him would be dangerous. This is one instance where an INTJ defeats an INTP, but then we have Kisuke Urahara defeating Sosuke Aizen. Aizen was at his peak power and had transformed into something that would surpass all hollows and soul reapers; he did this with the idea that if he could become the most powerful being within soul society, he could beat the Soul King himself and then he would rule over everything from Hueco Mundo to Soul Society as well. At this moment, when Aizen had reached his goal, Kiskue would need to devise a solution to defeat Aizen before he grew even more vital. This plan was basically to seal him away and keep him under lock and key; this plan would work, as Kiskue created a seal using three hado-style spells, weakening his power for the seal to work. Kiskue would defeat Aizen, with Aizen recognizing that Kiskue had an incredible intellect and why is it that Kiskue himself doesn't change the world to fit his vision of how the world should be. Kiskue then states that without the Soul King, the soul society would fall apart, ending in chaos and tragedy. People say that if we have INTJs, why do we need INTPs? I've thought about this many times before, and it's come down to one conclusion; INTJs don't see the entirety of the big picture. They see what rewards them the most and what is the quickest way to get things done, which is why I've always seen the "Judging" aspect to have its weakness, then again anything can be a weakness, as "Perceivers" at times are deemed "slow." INTJs don't consider the feelings of others, the amount of damage something can do, or the negatives of some things as, again, they are quick with their choices and know what they are after. As where we INTPs want to learn everything and will consider everything to be "Learning." We INTPs are emotionless as well, but we tend to think that learning human emotion can do something great for us and learning anything new is interesting.

ESTP: Yeah, that checks out. They're also highly annoying at times because they like to poke people for the sake of poking people. INFJ: Not quite right. You're right about it being about the people, but I would never think that that was wasting talents or gifts. There's just likely to be conflict over them wanting to please as many people as possible and us not only not caring, but not being swayed by some of their arguments for why pleasing people should be prioritized, depending on circumstances. ENTJ: Mostly right? Perhaps it's just my long lifetime of plotting and evaluating, but I can turn on a dime if I have to, and have had this ability since at least high school. Maybe I developed it with puberty? I'm honestly not sure. I had a stressful upbringing. My point is, though, that I have plans within plans, and frankenplans stitched together on the go from bits and pieces of plans I was working on. I don't lack spontaneity, is what I'm saying. So it's not that I wouldn't admire that in an ENTJ, but more that to me that feels like a kinship and a game. INTJ: Well, if you want to talk about rebellion, the trick to it is that it's an illusion. If you're rebelling against the status quo just because you're seeking an identity in rebellion, then you are as controlled by the system as if you had stayed within the system. You are letting them define you, rather than using your principles and observations to define yourself. An INTJ seeks neither conformity nor rebellion, but the ability to solve problems that cause themselves and other people undue anguish. Blind following of anything (rebellion or status quo) prevents the solving of problems. Adherence for the sake of adherence is the true enemy. It doesn't matter what side you pick for your loyalties if you've put no thought into them. ESFP: Someone crazy enough to play with us. Easily manipulated if need be. ENFP: Also fun to play with. ISTJ: Reliable, but a little dull and prone to being trapped in conformity. ISTP: I reject your analogy here. I don't know that I have a better one. But in terms of INTJs being active, I have studied martial arts to black belt level, though I am now 20 years out of practice. But the thing about that is that in the midst of a fight Intuition and Sensory functions need to process together at high speeds. You need to notice that there's a punch coming at your head, and you need to also notice that if you try to block it, you're going to get punched in the gut, and that if you dodge it your going to be elbowed in the kidney, and so the correct response is to turn the block into a grab and use their own momentum to help propel your foot into their stomach. Etc. You have to react instantaneously, but you also have to be able to see the outcomes (rather like the Guy Richie Sherlock Holmes). Time did slow for me then, when I was both up in my head and my pulse was pounding because I was going to have to react. I was not the best, but I had my moments. So when people give me metaphors about how it must be an ISTP because it reacts competently in real time ... no. You're lying to yourself if you think that's the difference. ENFJ: Anyone who tries to tell me how to act can hit the road. But I'm quite in favor of underlings who have skill with people so that I don't have to deal with all of their crap. ENTP: Less annoying than ESTPs. Potentially someone who is fun to debate. Really depends on if they devolve into insults when they're losing. INTP: Good friends. May need help relating to the rest of reality, though.. ISFJ: Seems kind of controlling to me. See, when thinkers craft systems for control, we're not controlling the people, we're building systems that should be idiot proof/work for the most reasonable lowest common denominator. We don't generally ask you to be anyone but yourself. F types, and particularly SF types, try to get control by telling you who to be, and trying to control who you are to make you fit society. They impose their vision on you directly. ESFJ: What I said about ISFJs goes double for ESFJs. ISFP: Okay. I can see that. INFP: Have you seen the snarling INTJ wolf protecting the little INFP kitten? That's accurate. ESTJ: That checks out. Also super stubborn and insulting if they're pointing at us.

I just think INTJs don't put emphasis on the form enough. Fe is related to communication with others. For most thinkers, including INTJs, it seems impossible to make the form of what you say correspond to what you actually mean. They have Fe blind so it's not surprising. But there is different ways to say the same thing. They're just never focused on how the person received the information. Actually you could argue they don't succeed to look authentic anyway because they often say what people think of them isn't their real intentions. That partially explains why what they say isn't received as how they internally see it. There is a disconnection between their mind and their speech because of that. The main problem actually comes from the fact that their real intentions are usually left unknown, so you let people interpret your words, specifically because you don't interpret them yourself. Are you saying those facts to help me, humiliate me ? Even if you say facts, everyone has a mind and intentions when they take a decision. People who use Fe don't get misinterpreted (unless they're going too far from what they actually mean) because they choose their words carefully to still succeed to convey their intentions and emotions. Thinkers don't, (or at least some of them). ENTPs convey intentions very clearly for exemple (even when they're not their actual ones) because they know what words to use to provoke the emotional response they expect. In fact, people with Fe convey their emotions and intentions so well that they can fool others. That doesn't mean people with Fe necessarely fake. You could even say they can appear more authentic because they can communicate intentions and emotions better. That's just a valuable skill, nothing more. So INTJs try to speak with authenticity but people can never get what form this authenticity takes. You can speak with authenticity but what is the point if you can't convey your authenticity ? INTJs can also be considered fake at times if they say they didn't want to be mean but people won't necessarely believe them. *All the words you choose matter.* I hope it will be helpful for thinkers to develop their skills in communication and will encourage them to show their emotions more. A fellow Ni dominant, INFJ.

Thankfully we discovered MBTI early on. At least now we understand one another but are both in awe at how totally different we are.

My INTJ perspective of each of these. ESTPs: Can't say I agree on the rationalist angle, but agreed on the spontaneity. IMO all ESxx types spend great amounts of energy on things that don't matter. INFJs: Pretty accurate, I would just add that they have a tendency to categorise others more than INTJs due to Ti. ENTJs: Spot on. INTJs: Spot on. ESFPs: Heavily context dependent but yes. Most of the time I'd rather keep them at a distance. ENFPs: Quite accurate. I would add that their Fi is what makes that Ne-Ni interaction really enriching for us, rather than just an info dump (which can be ok too). ISTJs: Quite accurate, I respect Si but I find it draining. ISTPs: Disagree, I just find them boring as hell. They have almost no appreciation for the realm of ideas. ENFJs: Agreed. I like ENFJs by themselves, but groups are a different story. ENTPs: Agreed, ENTPs are incredible for mental jousting. However sometimes it can be annoying to have to debate points on a topic I don't really care about. Still not gonna give them an easy win though. INTPs: Very accurate. I would add that INTPs simply don't have the fighting spirit that INTJs have though. They're like hobbits, their Si wants comfort and Fe wants to get along with people. ISFJs: Ehhh maybe? But the main source of conflict between us is thinking for yourself vs social norms. Si+Fe is extremely vulnerable to just copying everyone around them, and INTJs don't care for that one bit. ESFJs: Very accurate. I've yet to have a positive experience with any ESFJ. I find them manipulative, fake and close-minded. ISFPs: Agreed. I appreciate how much you realise that we're such an emotional and aesthetic type. We're like Nietzsche, not like Kant. INFPs: Spot on. Imagination is most of my life and I adore getting to see that in INFPs. ESTJs: Spot on. Like the ESTPs they spent a great deal of energy on things that don't matter. In things case it's work instead of random experiences, but still, work smarter not harder.
