@@goozmute3095 Good point. As an INTJ, I use the "good traits" as a calming balm for my insecurities. I felt misunderstood and unnormal for too many years. Now I know, that these things are just part of me and that other people are going / went through the same or, at least, very similar things. And I focus on the "flaws" as a "to improve"-list. Things I need to work on. Like, I force myself out of my comfort zonesin very specific ways. I've had a couple of part-time jobs in the service area. I hated them and they really drained me, but they helped me learn to communicate.

This is my current problem. I know the results, just don't know which game to play. I've been learning business, but have no idea what sector to get into. It's like, I like a bunch of them, but don't love them enough to get into it. Then there's also "why not follow my passion" but that sector won't get me the results I want. As an INTJ kid when it came to family I was very sensitive but when it came to other people I could care less whether they died or not. I was also a very imaginative kid, trapped inside my head I didn’t pay attention that much in class because they weren’t talking about interesting and important stuff. I always got what I want but deep inside I was always misunderstood, I couldn’t fit in in school, the neighborhood kids were too dumb to play with and I was always the outcast in school.

I understand you completely as another INTJ. When I went to a Highschool from homeschool, which is EXTEREMELY hard for us INTJs, I was very unpopular because I hadn’t grasped yet how to act around other ppl. But I used my intellect to perceive the social conventions and played the system from there. Doing that, I was able to gain a ton of popularity. Our greatest weakness, social stuff, can become our one of our greatest strengths through the use of our intelligence.

You just have to embrace the way you are. A world with only emotionally driven people wouldn't be benefical. Everyone is needed. As an infj myself, I am very interested in people and I really try to understand intjs. An elder intj I knew hurt me once and and I'm still wounded to this day. I've now learned that everyone is different and more about how the mind of an intj works. It helps me to work with myself.

INTJ female here. This mentality is how I approach MBTI. No doubt MBTI is super flawed with a 40% successful typing rate. But when you look past the flawed areas of MBTI and look at Jungs cognitive functions to use them in a social engineering way, it become more valuable. Even if it's not very scientific, we're rationale and moral users, we think in masses. When I see something like cognitive functions which has the ability to help non self-aware people develop self-awareness and introspection. Whether the system is 'flawed' or not, the possibilities it has been very beneficial to a lot of people. And that's just the price of rationale, we're not the logic users who are concerned with depth, rationale is about wider scale and that's why some of us will take post-truth stances on topics like MBTI. Personally, the benefits of using MBTI to social engineer far outweighs the negatives, it's extremely useful (crediting C.S Joseph) and has been a game changer for someone like me who has great assess to their ENTP unconscious.

Brittany Page It’s a very great tool, and it answers many a question of how and why one is the way they are. Cognitive functions paired with an understanding of their Big Five assessment can help one identify the problems and find a solution. That’s my NeTi mindset on the subject.

I appreciate you, Nathan. As a woman INTJ, I think I may have experienced more challenges because an INTJ woman isn’t a typical woman. So, men are attracted to the physical but really don’t know what to do with me when socializing with me. And though I am and can quite be “girly” like clothes, hair, make up, skin…I’m not a girls’ girl. Women gossiping or having over excited conversations talking over each other annoys me. I tend to leave it before it shows on my face. So, most women don’t know what to do with me either.

Yes that's perfectly true. I never could get along with women, only a rare few. Talking to men are much easier. I get nervous and uncomfortable talking with most women. Somehow they also find me boring as I don't react or respond like how they expect a woman to. I appreciate myself more as i grow up, realizing my insecurity was just my unique trait. I appreciate my small circle of friends who truly matters, and happy to have my ENFP husband, who's also my best friend. 😊

Both feeling functions can generate altruistic actions. But they work differently.

Well, kiddos, way back in the late paleo era, the value of STs was beyond dispute. Who better to carve up a Mastedon, club the enemy, flint knap,etc. So, in this context, your typical paleo INTJ may have done OK with this skill set, but his/her value in the tribe of 100 would be to innovate. So, our paleo INTJ observes the skill of a handul of hunters in taking down a few large herbivores, but thinks, "Hmm, we really need more animal protein to see ourselves through the winter" So, paleo INTJ comes up with the bright idea that, by coordinating the efforts of the entire tribe, large numbers of herbivores can be coerced into jumping off a cliff, thus increasing exponentially the tribes' calories.

What you're saying can also backfire lots of times, when we end up taking a tiny bit of insignificant data, and blow it out of proportion and make it a monster in our heads... Aka making assumptions where the data doesn't support said assumptions, just because this is how our brain works, trying to come up with rules on how things (or people) work... I think that's the case for an immature INTJ, or one with weak Te relative to Ni, because Te should always double check Ni insights. (Often forming a huge tree of possible ways events may unfold.) This Ni-Te feedback loop would be something good to mention, Nathan.

This idea that other animals can't think about the future (or the past) annoys me. I get that behaviorists made this assertion because we can't directly communicate with animals about their thought processes, but it makes absolutely no sense for scientists to assume this about other species simply because we can't read their minds. Plenty of ethological studies and even casual observation supports the possibility of projections into the past/future through memory, learning, anticipation, planning, etc. that is too complex to be explained by 'instinct' alone (at least not any more than our own behavior). It is immediately suspect that our processes could be so divorced from other animals, as if we are not also a product of nature. /soapbox

Here there are many boundaries established by the belief that dogs do have a vastly different way of making memories, in the form of direct associations. Recent studies however have shown that they possess an episodic memory. To think that they may even have some capacity to think about the past/future would be groundbreaking for me.

It's very interesting being an INTJ is a mostly sensing environment. I am married to an ESTJ and work with sensors. I'm a thoughtful person but I have learned to be careful of who I talk to. Many years ago, a relative told me I was a know it all. I gathered that was bad thing. So I keep to myself mostly. I was shocked to learn that most people don't want to learn anything. It seems like their narrow little worldview is good enough for them. I am a very spiritual (not religious) person and I see everything through that lens. Everything that happens, everything I do or others do means something to me. I have a huge belief system and every iota of information is entered into it, every day. INTJs build systems and I have a vast system of knowledge and belief. It keeps me sane... really. You expressed the worldview of an INTJ very, very well. Thank you.

Very interesting point about what role an imaginative mind would have in a prehistoric society. It makes sense that these types wouldn't be identified commonly in a prehistoric society but would on the internet; the web is literally a portal to any community you want. It's never been easier to find a whole bunch of INTJs in their own virtual communities. And I bet INTJs are so often found looking at MBTI stuff because it's in our nature to want to know more about ourselves and the concept of personalities as an abstract logic to apply to others

I’m glad the ubiquity of such types on KZbin are being addressed (despite the now questionable statistics of INTJs INFJs INFPs and INTPs). I think it goes beyond that though, I think the ubiquity isn’t necessarily in these 4 types, but rather being an intuitive in general. It’s rare you’ll find any sensor on KZbin or social media, everybody is an intuitive apparently. I think that might be because there’s a fundamental lack of understanding for the true distinction between the two, plus the inferiority perspective on Sensory types. People definitely see Sensory types as inferior, and instead try to convince themselves that they’re Intuitive instead, and what that leaves us with is the “INFJ here!” On every other comment in every mbti related video. Perhaps it’s the poorly created 16 personalities test that’s on the front lines of mbti introduction that literally asks questions about daydreaming, considering it an Intuitive thing. There’s a lack of understanding and appreciation for functional hierarchies within each type, and all NT or NF types on KZbin try to convince themselves of their functions so that they can fit in the intuitive category. People also definitely tend to get lost in their own type and lose sight of the fact that we all carry so many different complex functions, yet we try to limit ourselves to the 4 main ones. That’s what I think. What’re your thoughts?

I have only once seen any kind of superiority complex against sensors, but I'm also only on the periphery of this community. I'm personally of the opinion that making blanket claims that intuitives (or sensors) are superior to sensors (or intuitives) says much more about the person who says it than what the statement itself says. I'm an ISTP and I've seen both brilliant people and idiots of all types. The only thing that type actually says is where and how the individual's mental energy tends to be focused. To believe that a type or group of types is superior is ignorance at best and self-deluded arrogance at worst.

Sensory types are out in the world sensing and experiencing life. They can't be bothered to spend all day in their own imagination, i.e. on the internet. Intuitive types might be perceived as mysterious or uniquely creative, which may heighten the appeal of wanting to claim membership, but I just see intuitive types as people either too scared or too stubborn to step outside their inner world. Doesn't surprise me at all that N types would largely comprise the internet, where they never have to take real-life risks.

Because being intuitive is being genius. It's very rare. All people are geniuses. Being sensor is boring and... Who would not believe that he is super intelligent and unique person? Only a little percent of people know functions, and know how they work. They basing on the letters. Tests are good ,but you have to know functions to get the true score. People basing on stereotypes and characters that belongs to type. They 'd rather relate to Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty, than Frodo, or dankey. The most people that got intuitive type aren't truly intuitive. But who don't want to be genius? The next paradox is that all thinks they are thinking. Who 'd like to be a crying baby? It's a stereotype of feeling type. The most of all these comments where people claim to be Intuitive (Intjs are the most common), are made of tests which select your type by letters, people who don't know the functions, the fear of not being of genius ,as smart as Sherlock Holmes , their type isn't interesting in pop culture. Nobody would say that he has this same type as dankey from Shrek. I'm Intj, but I had to learn functions and make second test to know for sure. Sorry for my English.

It's a bit of column A a bit of column B... For the most part, sensors are more likely to be living in the moment. However, there are some prejudices via stereotypes that people want to be a certain type. However, no type is better than another. Your cognitive stack doesn't make you better, it's how you chose to use your functions that do that. Humans are more complex than stereotypes. I remember watching a video with a couple ladies had a guest who was convinced he was an intp, but the way he talked was more Se/Ni rather than Ne/Si and they kept pointing this out, but he was so convinced. Then it turns out he has prejudice that the ladies had to cut him off as he was about to say some offensive stuff. Eh, ISTPs are Ti-doms, so wtf dude... It's just all around stupid the ideas people get in their heads to want to be a type. Learn the functions, because that's all that matters in determining a type.

I'm INTJ and fact, Love Who is flooded by our type xD. I can tell that most of us here value the accuracy and the zoomed in perspective that Nate provides as it allows us to get 4KHD of our 720p Te conceptions. Ti can save an INTJ the trouble of climbing down the Se ladder through the simplified version of its 'chaos' that a Ti/Ne or Ti/Se had already taken care of. I also love to play on the hardest setting and let my mind relax and take in the whole board and at a certain point of flow I'll be able to understand whole rows or squares at a glance without any surface awareness of evaluating anything - like how anyone can look at 5 things and know there are 5 without counting them, it's just apparent. Introverted intuition is weird that way. Sometimes it's harder to know (or at least explain) how I figured something out than it was to get the answer. Never started Chess as no one in my family would stop reading People magazine long enough to engage in anything cerebral, but I assume I would love it. I wonder, does innate intelligence or grueling practice result in better mastery of the game? Is there a specific type who excel at it? I think INTJs would do well but I don't know much about the other types aside from how they intersect with mine because understanding my type was so necessary to my mental health that I gorged myself on INTJ knowledge and am now too busy digesting it to have taken the time to dive deep into the other types yet. Your vids are really helping us understand ourselves better; thank you.

I've thought about this very thing a lot! What on earth were the Paleolithic versions of NT types doing? Haha. I've tried to imagine life before reading was invented, idk how I would have been happy! Also thinking, I would love to see videos on the dysfunctional versions of each type- not just the weaknesses each type shares, but more like what can go terribly wrong specific to each type if they are really un-rounded in their functions. Like, which types are most prone becoming a cynical misanthrope, or a clinger, or get too down on themselves, etc. I think some types get a bad rep with certain things, it would be nice to see this explained as only being the dysfunctional version, not all within the type.

The genius of INTJ is in their exemplary use of rational thinking. Optimal/ rational decision making is impossible without a clear utility function (essentially a clear set of preferences hierarchy), and INTJs excel at best/most rational decisions as they truly care about their values and their relative importance. That enables them to take the most optimal course of action towards a vision that will maximize the manifestation of their values. I am taking my hat down for that.

Thanks for your fascinating and uncomfortably precise videos. As a scientist and seemingly INTJ, reaching my 50, I am awkwardly surprised that I fit a specific personality type. I work in biological sciences, and despite not being trained in psychology, I always overanalyze everybody's personality. On one hand, I feel sad I didn't know about this personality trait segregation early on in my life. On the other hand, since I've never met someone with my personality type, I feel sad I'm part of a group of people sharing the same personality traits... there goes my uniqueness! Nonetheless, I would rather know the truth about human nature than live in ignorance. Regarding the evolutionary advantage of this personality type, one can hypothesize that it benefits a population; therefore, it is still present. They are not the main drivers of human groups, most likely because they don't do the daily hard work required to maintain a society... however, they are still necessary. I don't know if I would agree with the chess analogy, but I think it was a helpful exercise. Please forgive my grammar; I'm not a native speaker.

Iwas so so lucky to find another INTJ as a mate I ws 32 he was 37...we had 41 wonderful yeard. Now a year after his death I have a relationship with an INTP he is very similar but tyere ARE differences. Since these two types are rare what are the odds I eouñd have two such consecutives life partners...pretty slim...Yes making things fit together via insight is our strong suit. I achieved so m6ch in life professionally and personally at 20. I would never have believed such a life would be possible for me. Wish I had known so I could have kicked back just a bit, relaxed more and enjoyed the ride even more.

I'm an INTJ. I'm working on a theory related to this regarding the evolutionary benefit of the different types. SJs account for half of the human population and thank God they do--someone has to keep the world running in a way that will probably work well, if for no other reason than its worked well to do it this way so far. INTJs and INFJs are two of the rarest and the two most willing to completely change everything, willing to deal with the chaos and unintended consequences and are well practiced at figureing out how to anticipate them, in the hopes of getting something better. Like you said--this is just a problem solving strategy and these two types apply this strategy to both everyday and larger problems. The interesting thing is that they employ polar opposite strategies in order to get to that chaotic anarchy, but both are willing to go there and both are among the rarest types. I think us INTJs and INFJs are kept around by nature for those rare instances where things just need to be radically changed--for when the status quo stops working and the way of doing things need to adapt and change, and change quickly.

I think you'd be smugly pleased to know that not only have I "abstracted" ideas from chess to apply to the external world, but I do it all the time even with games like Tetris. It kind of never stops. I often have to rewind videos five times because an idea or principle pops up, I dissociate, and have no idea what people are saying until after the idea is allowed to play out.

For the chess analogy i really do think that the queen being sacrificed is a perfect example on the fact that power is a non-existent force or more particularly, an illusion. Often we define power as what it could be but it is only because of that vision that we give the person or in this case the chess piece, the power it truly doesn't have. Yes the queen has a lot of utility and can be considered dangerous but all of that means nothing if it lost early on in the game. Knowing that the utility the queen could have gets cut drastically short when the player realizes what moves are too dangerous and what moves aren't and if you learn to capitalize on that every match ask yourself again, is the queen really that powerful? It has potential because of its utility but now that you have created doubt in certain aspects of the queens potential you therefore break the queens illusion of power. I like this analogy because i think it applies to so much more than chess.

Going with what you talked about, something I've always admired with intj's as an infp is their ability to objectively view what they value so that they don't get bogged down in it. I am constantly making subconscious decisions through my Fi no matter how ultimately trivial and it has kept me at times from "advancing" as it were. For example, I love chess too (I'm terrible at it), and... this is so stupid... but I actually feel bad when I sacrifice a piece, so I avoid it lol, but I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes! I've actually had the same thoughts you have about strengths and weaknesses of chess pieces, but I've always viewed it from an individualistic standpoint, where it shows how genius can be contextual. I'm reminded of that quote by Albert Einstein about judging a fish on how well he climbs a tree and there goes my Ne... anyway lol fun to compare notes with yours. 4:09 yes this is absolutely true. your insight is amazing if you’re not INTJ yourself! at work i can solve 90% of the same projects that normally requires a much more experienced technical professional simply because i can pull skills and knowledge from all manner of things and ‘turn’ the problem so that those would suffice to solve it in a different way. very useful in a resource scarce region like Asia. the downside is that there is consequently less motivation for me to deepen professionally, since i need to less often than others.

My brother the INTJ and I the INFJ, both relish their 'aha' moments and prophetic impressions, courtesy of introverted intuition. Brother with his expansive business acumen and ambitions connected to his logical assessment (extroverted thinking) of worldly opportunities (a vintner who owns a vineyard) whereas I the quiet grandmaster of strategy and diabolical machinations (introverted thinking). Him, all-obsessed with what he can do for himself (introverted feeling), whereas I, self-less, put everybody else's needs ahead of my own (extroverted feeling), which is last. Both of us can get stir-crazy as we lie trapped in our overactive minds and prescient imaginations; both realize that only escaping via (inferior) extroverted sensing -- doing things hands-on, is what saves sanity.
