Lil' Troyer Farm
Welcome here! We have a small little farm on a tad over 10 acres. Home to some family dairy goats, some dogs, a cat, and a number of horses too! When we moved to our property, we pretty much started everything from scratch for the animals. There was no existing fence line, and over 2/3 was completely bush! We have been slowly tackling projects while raising three young children. My goal is to share real farm life with you!

Amanda, sweetie, never apologize for your hair, clothes etc. Us out here as your youtube followers will watch the channel and all of your adventures, regardless of the state of you, your family, your farm, your animals. We watch you, not your hair etc. Dont worry about the small stuff. The big stuff will resolve itself one day. Do l have the nerve to say that? Yes, l do, cos l,m 70 and nothing worries me anymore. I,m sure Sugar is in a better place now, as is our recently departed doggie, a lil terrier of 17.5 years. We loved her endlessly and still cry for her. Chin up, we love you and yours .. God bless and hang in there. Joh, Bunbury, Western Australia.

I 100% agree with you! You have a couple of years on me 😁 (my husband just informed me that I’m 61 not 62 until September haha 😂) but I always tell people, or family or friends - I didn’t come to see your house, I came to see you!! But yes I love watching her and her love for her animals and her lifestyle. Linda from eastern Colorado

Yes! I loved putting the video together and watching her gain weight!!! She has become less ribby, and is filling out beautifully. Stan and I are both very excited about how she is looking! Hopefully her legs recover and straighten out all the way!

I know how busy you are. The rubbing is likely loneliness and anxiety. She may need a buddy. A baby goat might help. Glad her legs are braced. Love, light and peace.

I agree, she was pacing at first, and when she was left alone. Still working out the perfect buddy for her. For now, she enjoys her 'aunties' that visit through the fence.

Good morning Amanda You could consider mounting a corner stand to place milked feed or container of milk. Some just don't learn down to drink and often thought was a choking thing or related to neck position when nursing. Hoping you are enjoying your holiday today.🇨🇦🦋🌻

It's a great idea! I've been thinking of using the flat sided buckets and hanging them up higher so it's not so hard for her to reach. 😊 Her milk bucket is set up on a block, and that has helped (but is a crude set up haha!) My hubby is working today, but I hope you got a holiday!

Ladybug looks like she doing is doing great. Your love and attention are definitely helping her succeed. You are so patient with the milk, and I love to see that. It is very exciting to see kids get into something like that, and I'm glad you are willing and able to nurture it.

We are so happy and relieved that she is thriving!!! 👏👏 Oh yeah, at first it would take her 20-30 minutes to drink her milk! 😅

there is a feed for foals that replaces the nursing... I had a foal that had to eat it cuz his mom was mean to him. It worked great!

I am so thankful there are many options to try! I've heard of milk pellets, as well as there are multiple different types of grain available for growing foals. I'm so glad you found something that worked for your little guy!

If you hold that pan at an angle to where there's a "deep spot", that milk will disappear before your very eyes. I went through it myself just a couple of months ago when one of my mares didn't produce enough milk for about a week to feed her foal. Now, she's practically skin and bones because she's producing so much milk! (I can't seem to feed her enough to counteract the milk she's making! Can't wait until the little sucker is old enough to be weaned, because mom needs to gain some weight!) Good luck with Ladybug, she sure seems to be in good hands, and I'm glad she's with you.

I don't claim to know much about raising horses or other farm animals, but I'm wondering why you don't set up a bottle, attached to a fence or wall or whatever, about as high as Lady Bug's mouth for her to suckle on?
@Liltroyerfarm
@Liltroyerfarm Ай бұрын
Great question! Foals actually start losing their drive and desire to suckle after about a week. We did try a bottle, but she was not interested at all. If a foal is orphaned within that first week, it would be worth it to try a bottle. However, the vet recommended putting Ladybug straight onto a bucket. 😊 Hope that makes sense!

Did you have a vet check the older mares knee and if not ,why not? I know vet care is expensive but leg injuries in horses can lead to permanent lameness or worse.
@Liltroyerfarm
@Liltroyerfarm Ай бұрын
Raven did have a vet check, just no xrays. The vet recommended 8 weeks of small pen rest, and then see how she was after that. Because of her age, she likely already has a certain amount of lameness from arthritis. It's mostly a situation where we keep an eye on her, give supplements, and see how she does. If she's happy and comfortable, that's what's important!
