Thanks again for trying to see if Linux runs in this machine! It's GREAT to know whether that particular running characteristic of a new ARM-based machine is present or not! Aloha!

the most resource-intensive task i do on the road are Google Meet video calls i would love to see a battery test where a google meet call is left running (camera and mic enabled, plus one or two participants) to see how much stress that puts on battery life my web browsing and terminal activity is pretty kind to my x86 laptop, but if i have to get on a video call, my range anxiety really kicks in if i knew i could still get decent battery life even with an impromptu video call, that would do a lot to motivate me to switch to snapdragon hardware (i dont really wanna go apple to get the stellar battery life, if i can avoid it) thanks for all the great content!

Just picked up a Dell Latitude 5455 with ARM. The only compatibility issue I’ve come across so far is getting RSAT tools for server administration.

What I've looked at them, apparently they're beginning to be solid choices for many uses. Gaming likely isn't good, but I'm not interested in that. It's likely I'm going back from Mac to Windows&Linux. I've been seriously disappointed in the Apple ecosystem in my testing.

I'm so waiting we'd see desktop equipment with plenty of mass media storage. Can't wait to see day I can put like my homelab running on Arm platform. Would be so energy efficient.

just got this today while it was on sale for $700 at costco. enjoying it so far but wished there was a way to use the pen from a distance so i could use the buttons to control the volume without having to hold it up against the screen.

Good 'state of play' summary of where we are with the lower end of Snapdragon. Looks like the gaming won't start getting fixed until at least the next generation of Snapdragon. The comparison with the Beelink mini with 125h is interesting for me - been using a lot of minis recently - as it puts this chip slightly below what I'm looking for. Nice laptop though

Well Apple touted gaming will be great when M-series launched and it's still utter garbage. Hell almost nothing plays on them. How many years is that? Quite many.

the moment these support linux natively, i might buy one (depending on whether it sucks or not), i have had experience with arm-linux, and the software compatibility isn't an issue like it is on windows.

Yeah the price is bit high considering the limited USB C ports. However the formfactor on the the Lenovo is great, I just wish they brought back the mouse joystick thing that was between the home keys.

A solution looking for a problem. Just get a Macbook Air, at least you know what works and doesn't
@vaf36142 ай бұрын
Well, there are also compatibility issues, they are a lot less though. For studying computer science for example they are useless, too many things are just not working yet. And the biggest problem is that it runs MacOS and running Linux does not work too well.

For the rest of the World 2024 is a super controversial year to buy a Laptop with an Arm chip because of Software compatibility on Windows 11. For North America the MacBook still King of popularity...so it's a Nice try but Nothing changes.
@sirracer20053 ай бұрын
I haven't touched a mac since probably 92 or 93. And I would take that over these snapdragon powered laptops. Bought the galaxy book 4 edge 14"(best buy on sale) and besides horrible battery life, windows on arm just isn't there. And I have been considering moving from android/windows to going apple. But the price tag is a big issue.

But it will change. Apple's A series chips led to M series chips. And they are absolute beasts. Now with Snapdragon 8 elite being faster than A18 pro .. I am wondering what the next generation of X elite laptops will be like!
@ArthropodSpidey3 ай бұрын
@@lostjournal doesn't matter. Windows on ARM is still garbage. Apple's advantage is that they also control the software.

@@ArthropodSpideyLol 😂 Their curse. Owning M-series Macbook and iPad for about two years now and I've never been more disappointed about the software side. Huge touts about performance emulating x86 software, but in reality it sucks ass and iOS is also disappointing as software is lacking cause of restrictions. Only platform that doesn't have ie. Syncthing available and there's tons of software that is so heavily sandboxed that it hinders usability greatly. Devices for normal users, not power users. I'm absolutely going back to Windows, Linux and Android.
@jothain3 ай бұрын
It'll absolutely change. There's quite a bit software already natively ported for Windows arm and emulation seems to be on par with Mac. Yes on par. I'm dead serious. Owning MacBook I can vouch that M-series is still pisspoor emulating x86 software
