I was in my late twenties when Clone Wars came out. It proves you can have VERY serious arcs, but also humor, in the same series. I didn't grow up on Star Wars, but quality is quality. Lower Decks is one style. Prodigy is another. You can simply do more in non-realistic animation than you can live action or CGI. TAS did things TOS could never do, on a low budget. It's not about graphics. It's about story.

I would say it is about graphics, but good graphics doesn't mean number of polygons and photorealism, good graphics means mainly good stylisation for me. It's valid even for games, some very old games can still look good because that graphics is strongly stylised, while old "photorealistic" attempts look ridiculous now.

HISTORIC EPISODE. When I say genius writing, I want to be sure its not taken as a cliche - the writing is GENIUS and the directing is not far behind that. SNW has always been great at proper tone, and this blending is done so damn perfectly. I laughed all the way through the episode for all different kinds of reasons. In fact....I'm gonna watch it again. Now. "Riker!"
@maskddingo1779 Жыл бұрын

Did you notice Mariner remarking to Boimler that people in the past talked slow and low as opposed to fast and loud? This was an extremely important episode in regards to Spock's evolution to the emotionally frigid Spock that we know. If anyone has been worried about that, this episode proves that's something SNW is working toward. There is no Trek that adheres to canon more tightly than Lower Decks. You think you know canon? You don't know canon like Lower Decks knows canon. Where the Lower Decks characters point to what we we know as canon proves the writers of SNW have not forgotten canon.
@terrywest111 Жыл бұрын
Yes. In my mind, what we see in SNW is not the actual canon timeline that goes ENT, TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, LD * (it's a cartoon, and a comedic one at that), Prodigy, Picard Season 3. Discovery, SNW and Picard Seasons 1 and 2 are in a parallel universe. This is why they don't visually line up with the original timeline I reference above. SNW is in my opinion free to do what they want with the characters. They can have Christine Chapel and Spock get together. They can have Kirk be serving on a Farragut that is not a Constitution Class. The ships and tech can look different from the established canon that was respected by 5 other complete shows, one (now coming up on two, wherever they decide to show Season 2 of Prodigy) season of another, one season of Picard and mostly all of Lower Decks. The costumes can look different... it's all good. I think that this episode was meant to be a parody of Star Trek as a whole. I don't think it will actually take place in the in show canon of either show. (But when I think about it, Lower Decks might make the episode part of the in show canon for it) They probably won't/reference it again on SNW for the sake of the seriousness of the show in general. But Lower Decks as a cartoon will probably be free to. There's enough room in the Star Trek banner for all kinds of Trek. I'm seeing that they are being very good about clarifying things without actually clarifying things. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow actually shows that the Strange New Worlds timeline is an alternate one. We saw that the Eugenics Wars didn't happen the way they did in the original Star Trek timeline. Khan's life was not the same. Therefore nearly everything that follows is different... to a degree. This is not to say that the original timeline doesn't exist... and we can still get more content from it.
@maskddingo1779 Жыл бұрын
It was a nice meta joke to see them acknowledge the fan's complaints about how Spock has been written through the eyes of Boims and Beckett (who are essentially surrogates for fanboys and fangirls a like in this episode😁 ). This might have also just have been a "preemptive retcon" (if you will) to connect the two and cement them both in the "prime" timeline without having to actually show the full journey on screen before SNW ends.
@kirkdarling4120 Жыл бұрын

@@maskddingo1779 Aye, but I feel bad that Spock will probably have to purge his humanity soon. This is sort of hinting that Spock is going to have to make a sacrifice soon. Nurse Chapel is still on the Enterprise in TOS, but we never saw Spock and her interact.

This was the BEST episode of SNW. I loved how the writer came up with the story and who the characters from two different series formats were merged. My favorite moment, the lat scene with the SNW crew being animated and the reason they feel animated is the drink Mariner taught Ortegas to make. Was this also history in the making were a animated series and live-action in the same franchise to have a crossover. I'd be exactly like Boimler if I was to meet Pike, Spock and crew in person and be aboard the Enterprise. Boimler is a Star Trek fanboy and many fans can really identify him, which is why Lower Decks is so beloved. Lastly, I love how this episode gave a shout out to Star Trek Enterprise and knowing that Pike is a fanboy of Archer and the NX-01.

Lower Decks has been my favorite of the streaming era Trek shows, because it hits all the right notes while not taking itself too seriously and injecting humor into a beloved franchise. This crossover had me beyond excited, but worried about the execution. I have to say, I was over the moon and overjoyed with the finished product. The story made sense, the way they made the transition from LD to SNW and back was flawless. The ending with the SNW cast in animated form was a great touch that allowed that crew to "let their hair down" for a moment. Jack and Tawny played their animated counterparts to perfection (right down to the purple hair). Having Tendi and Rutherford in the opening was a stroke of brilliance. There are SO many good things to say about this episode, and I can't give it a single strike for anything.
