From the comments I have seen on many videos, a lot of Taco men are doing just that. They find the Frontier a much better value. Not made in Mexico either. I'm a lifelong Nissan driver. I just wish they'd complete the package by offering a stick shift option. Nissan builds a very durable manual, and that kind of simplicity would go very well with the new truck's image.

OK a lot of people are blaming Toyota and the other car companies. Hate to say this.... But this isn't the car makers. This is all the people that voted Biden and caused the super-flation. Just because we haven't high inflation in 30+years doesnt mean its not gonna happen. If you voted Democrat, know that you caused this. Decisions at the ballot box DO MATTER. Anyway, do some research before you blame Toyota... They have to buy all the parts and materials. The lift in prices is commensurate with inflation. Again, cars are no different than apples. Inflation pushes all prices up.

After hearing the price on these trucks i am glad i did. when ever i get ready to buy another one i guess i will have to buy a Nissan. I don't like Nissan but 3 things i have to have before i buy a pick up. 1 a full frame. 2 at least a v6 or a V8 and 3, a real transmission not a glorified lawn mower transmission they call a cvt. I personally wont buy a car or truck with a turbo unless its diesel. Hopefully it will be a long time before i have to consider buying another car or truck though if ever at my age because i keep my cars and trucks for 20 years its the only way with what they cost now that i can get my moneys worth out of them. looks like to me that Toyota has switched over to planned obsolescence with these trucks like a lot of the other company's have switched over to like kitchen appliances and heat pumps. I had a whirlpool fridge that lasted me 40 years my stove and washer and dryer lasted over 20 now you are lucky to get one to last 10. Corporations have become so Greedy, crooked, and dirty its unbelievable but America destroyed the free market economy thus destroying their competition so they can get away with it now. The absolute worst, and I can’t emphasize this enough, WORST part of this is that the entire automotive industry, and not just Toyota, is in a state of denial about the situation they’re in with overinflated prices and slumping sales. There isn’t a single car lot in the country that isn’t overrun with inventory they can’t move and it just keeps piling up because people have been priced out of the market. Banks have tightened their lending standards and until the economy actually starts to recover, good luck getting a loan if your credit isn’t top tier. But the dealers would rather sell off their inventory to auction than nix the ridiculous markups. Most people would gladly pay a little above fair market value for a car or truck as long as they could get financing at a reasonable interest rate, and not see 20k in markups baked into the deal. Not happening, and probably never will again. Let it all burn…

The maths don't lie, you'll have to maintain that turbo and have it inspected/replaced every so often, which often requires lifting the cab off the frame

I am a college student and I have been working on a research paper about environmental regulations have been affecting the automotive industry specifically toyota (I have a 2018 TRD OR). Turbos are currently being added to smaller engine displacements in order to make up for loss power and more importantly fuel economy. Im not a thermal dynamics specialist but I know that turbos allow these smaller engines to perform at an optimal pressure point for better gas mileage than the current naturally aspirated V6 and V8 counterparts. Of course this is all due to regulation and cannot be helped when it comes to which car companies benefits from which political agenda and vice versa. My mom just bought the new lexus gx 550 for 10k cheaper than a 24 TRD OR taco. Lexus doesnt do any dealership markup. Yes it has a twin turbo engine. However lexus has used this same engine since 2018 and little to no problems have been documented so far. We have had the best experience with lexus and there is practically no price gouging. I love Toyota and I always will because of how well know they are for making great cars, but I think from now on Ill veer towards lexus just because we have had a better experience buying the car, customization of the car, lack of price gouging, and overrall service

Add 10% to that for tax/license and its almost $70K OTD. Needless to say I was OTD. I do not need a turbo, I just want a 2WD Tacoma with a standard V6. I need a new small truck to replace my old 2WD Tacoma with 225K miles on it, but at those prices I'm looking at other brands.

I don't really mind the switch to 4 cylinder turbos, though I do think it's valid that some people are concerned with reliability and all that. I bought a '22 Outback Wilderness new that has a turbocharged 4 banger and it's been fine for me. The problem with these newer Toyotas is mainly the price. With taxes and fees, $50k is only getting you a lower-mid range Tacoma these days. You're absolutely correct that people are upside-down the minute they sign the paperwork. If I could get into a base model 4x4 for low $30k range I'd probably buy one. It seems those days are gone unfortunately, and so is my willingness to shop the brand for trucks.

I think people are afraid of the the turbo platform and sticker shock. You can get a lower trimmed vehicle in the new platform that is comparable in price to a mid-high trimmed prior gen, and still have better tech, more HP/Torque/MPG etc. I think consumers are just not ready for that shift, and I doubt they end up paying a ton of money for a higher trimmed Tacoma/Tundra because its foolish financially. But all things considered, these are much better vehicles than the prior gens. Longevity is TBD and Im sure they'll need to iron out the kinks. But with EPA mandates, all manufacturers are/will doing the same.
@ittestnow
@ittestnow 24 күн бұрын
The EPA is mandating better fuel economy as they should. The fact is Toyota and others are using cheaper parts and not passing any savings on. There is no planet on which it costs more to make a 4 cylinder turbo vrs a V8. And they moved to the new frame so SAVE money!

It gets worse when you factor in that you can buy a Ranger, Colorado, Nissan for 5-10K less feature for feature. When a Sr5 cost the same as a loaded Ranger XLT FX4 you have a problem. Or that same SR5 costs the same as a fully loaded Frontier PRo 4X. They can't sustain something that much more over the competition. I mean a loaded Raptor at 57K or a TRD pro for 65-70K? I’m torn, ford has had turboed trucks for a while with not the best track record. But to paraphrase Scotty Kilmer when talking about the ford powerboat, he mentioned the hybrid would help wear and tear on the turbo as the electric motor would reduce stress on the turbo at the lower rpm’s while it spooled. It will probably take them 3 years to figure it out…… the battery life in the other hand 😬

Finally!! Excellent video! Somebody spoke the truth and did NOT just fall in line and praise horsepower and torque numbers as if the horrible sounding noise, the buzzy vibration AND the complexity of turbo charged 4 cylinder motors just doesn’t matter. Some of us, who have been around have an expectation of how a “truck” should sound. To completely ditch 6 cylinders completely and not even consider the thought of micro V8’s as an option over these ridiculously over worked, stressed out turbocharged 4 bangers with the life expectancy of a Bic lighter is mind boggling to me. Experienced adult truck owners who know and have driven really cool trucks for decades like the midsized Dodge dakota V8 or the Chevy S10 ZR2 with the Bullet proof 4.3 V6 that easily went 300k miles with normal servicing, or the GMC Cyclone dont want this overpriced garbage. nobody is ever going to look back 20 years from now and say "oh man remember when those really cool Colorados and Tacomas came out with those bitchen noisy 4 cylinder vibrators!!! hell no, these trucks will be scrapped and forgotten by then. I have for the past two years so badly wanted to downsize my 1 ton 2020 Ford F350 Lariat and replace it with a mid size truck to better fit in my garage and only do moderate towing around 8k pounds but I just can not and will not buy into a $50k plus truck with a inline 4 cylinder motor. How is it possible these manufacturers tease us with these dead sexy mid sized trucks and then make us puke 🤮 in our mouths over these ridiculously cheap garbage powertrain options.

They perfected their old powertrain at the cost of getting behind on up to date powertrains. Also, everything you need to get to in that tacoma iforce is front and center. These new turbo 4s are built to diesel standards without all the crap that's making diesels unreliable nowadays. This goes for almost everything, don't buy first version. We had a dealer here in Houston doing the same thing with the Tacoma Sports and adding spacers plus method wheels/tires... Fake beadlocks on top of that. Lost their minds with those markups. It's ok, let them sit on those lots.

Unlike Ford and GM the new taco is completely overpriced for the segment. Toyota has completely lost their minds. They can't sustain these prices as we already see tundras rotting on the lots across the country. Now I'm already seeing some dealers stacking up SR5 tacos with discounts. Which is insane for a truck that barely came out. They completely misjudged the market IMO.

They went with the Direct injection on the VQ 3.8 on the Nissan to reduce co2. I believe they also added the start/stop feature to get federal rebates. The 3.8 is definitely cleaner burning then the old port injected VQ 40. May take a bit more fuel then the turbo fours but not by much as turbos will suck it up quite a bit under boost. I think the reason GM/Toyota went with the turbo four was to improve the low end torque which they do. Much more so then Nissan's V6. Especially at elevation. There are positives with induction and normally aspirated motors. As we see different views from the oems.

People need to wake up and reject this bs emissions claim. Newer vehicles have been made to run clean for years now. Vehicle manufacturers are just hiking up prices because they want too and we all need to just say no!
