Pull the fitting out of the back of the pump and check to see if the plunger inside moves free. It is the bypass for when you turn to the stop and if it gets stuck it will have no power assist at idle. Flush the fluid and maybe put a filter in the system to extend the pump life.

Bummer bud! At least it’s only a power steering pump. Get an MR2 electric pump. You can get them for super cheap at a pick and pull. Well done Taylor keep up the good work.

That was really cool at the end hearing the 5.3 and the original 1.8 together at the same time. That's dope af being able to listen to the dramatic differences in what the stock motor used to sound like compared to the new swapped V8's sound. That is neat af! Also one more thing, and prob the only other suggestion that I have left for you at this point, is a rear view camera box on screen. Even during some of the out of car and drone shots would be pretty cool too flipping back and forth between forward view(mounted either on the front bumper or behind the front wheel to catch that angle) and rear view. And will deff be the icing on the cake for your fire ass editing skills that just keep getting better and better! Oh and throw an egg at the end too lol!!!

BTW I just saw that you hurt the pump...if you haven't already I recommend a Turn One PS underdrive Pulley and Pump. Also I'm not sure if you run a PS cooler (I've not kept up with anyone's videos as much lately sry) but that made a world of difference for my LS swap.

In Australia a lot of people convert their drift cars to Holden TS Astra electric power steering pumps. Not sure if you guys got a similar Opel product but it’s a good opinion👍🏽

time for an electric psteer pump. mr2 mrs pump or vauxhall/opel astra pump (if yous have em over there) mount em anywhere u want, traditional pumps tend to get heat stuffed in anything other than normal driving.

Are you sure that your PS pump is going bad? Noticed that the temp got up to 227 degrees before you shut it off. Check the belt, make sure it hasn't stretched or that your tensioner hasn't went bad.

power steering pumps aint too much about that limiter life xD even if i am the pump still dies. electrical or bigger drive wheel on the pump. might have bad power steering at idle but wont be overworked at limiter xD

I bet the pump is cavatating at high rpm with limited flow. It *should* be able to handle it fine but maybe the lines are just more restrictive than a stock use. Maybe the return system is too restrictive or maybe it runs out of fluid at full lock because the reservoir is too small.. would be an ironic thing to have a v8 big ol chevy use less fluid in a power steering system than a miata but hey 😂
