The difference with television today is the sterility. There was a laid back, off the cuff feeling of television then. Around the 1990s, it all became so very obviously commercial. Of course it always was, but today it’s pushed down everyone’s throats. Think of David Letterman, he was constantly at odds with NBC and his antics. Today, he’d be canned in a heartbeat, as he pretty much was, come 1992.

The earliest television, and I think Lucy still holds up pretty well, but then again, I'm biased. I watched "I Love Lucy" in the early seventies, when I was a teenager, stuff that was made 20 years earlier. I watch it today through those same eyes and still think it's great. It made me tear up a bit when Johnny asked if she'd be remembered in 50 years. I still remember you, Lucy! I refuse to use past tense: you are a brilliant comedic actor. No small thanks to the great Vivian Vance! Love you, Lucy! And you too, Johnny!

Love Johnny Carson.. Since I was born in Wusterhaven Berlin Germany. When my parents moved to United States when I was little, after my parents divorced. lived with my mother's sister and her husband. I started watching classic shows and movies, the movies and tv shows of today, are just to violent, not saying that all of them are, I just prefer old shows and movies.. Love you Lucy😘😘🥰 I'm still watching " I LOVE LUCY" she's such a treasure. After 44 years, Johnny Carson still going strong.

Everyone has their favorites, mine are mostly the California shows. I love when William Holden and John Wayne appeared. Who can’t laugh when Lucy’s nose lights up? And when she and Ethel dropped John Wayne’s footprints “YOU SCARED ME!”. People will still be watching in 100 years.

Instead, I guess, over 20,000 people didn't know what and who they were watching - two of the shiniest celebrities show business has ever seen. RIP Lucile, RIP Johnny! You were the best, and we're watching them almost after those 50 years that Johnny mentioned in the show.
