I agree, impressive wizards came from the half bloods. Only one correction. It was either book four or five, but Hermione was talking about the witch trials and how all it took was a simple incantation that would make it to where the fire would not hurt them and actually just tickle. One witch enjoyed it so much she purposely got caught and "burned" like 69 times.
@turdferguson93565 жыл бұрын
let me preface what follows by saying that in no way do I endorse any form of blood purity (be it fictional or real)... that being said, were I magical and taught of the history of the witch-hunts I would at least be wary of muggles and might find a message like that of Grindlewald somewhat appealing, not for the sake of any notion of blood purity but for the safety of my friends and family
@proximashining7765 жыл бұрын
@Anne Day What could he possibly read about witch hunts to make them seem ok? They were terrible crimes in our real world, that cost the lives of countless innocent people.
@proximashining7765 жыл бұрын
@Anne Day A pure-blood likely wouldn't have access to Muggle books and so he would have read only wizarding books on that topic. Unless he was so interested in history that he would actively venture into the Muggle world to buy Muggle history books, which I doubt many wizards and witches would do. But even wizarding books could portray witch hunts very differently. Some authors might write that real witches weren't harmed during witch hunts at all, while other authors (those who disliked Muggles) would write the exact opposite. How would you know which book tells the truth, then? And if a pure-blood truly bought and read some Muggle books, he would of course read in them that witch hunts were terrible and many people lost their lives. Which could actually make him think, that those Muggle-hating authors of wizarding books were right when they described witch hunts as horrible Muggle violence against magical folk.
@proximashining7765 жыл бұрын
@Anne Day That would require strong dedication to the cause though, I can't imagine a random 11 years old being that dedicated, or most of the older children. Maybe some history loving Ravenclaw. But kids like Harry or Ron? Definitely not. Anyway, in this particular case of witch hunts, no matter what books one would read, whether wizarding or Muggle, they would learn from them the same thing. That Muggles hated wizards and witches so much that they hunted them and murdered anyone whom they believed to have magic. Sure, they didn't manage to kill any real witches, but that doesn't change the fact that they tried very hard. So the conclusion would be that Muggles are hateful and violent towards people who have magic (or who are merely believed to have magic). This wouldn't make any pure-blood see Muggles in a positive light.
@proximashining7765 жыл бұрын
@Anne Day Well, they wouldn't be able to learn about wizards torturing and murdering Muggles from the Muggle books, because Muggles don't know about it. Whenever something like that happens (Muggle family killed by Death Eaters, property destroyed by giants etc.), wizards from the Ministry arrive, obliviate all Muggle witnesses and feed Muggle police officers some non-magical excuse (gas leak, hurricane...). And while I remember that witches being unharmed and actually liking being burned at stake during the witch hunts was indeed mentioned in the books as something that happened in a distant past, I really don't remember that wizards torturing and murdering Muggles would be mentioned in the books as something that used to happen regularly long before Grindelwald and then Voldemort came around, i.e. before the 20th century. And as I said, most wizarding children (not only pure-bloods but also half-bloods and Muggleborns) wouldn't bother to research all of this on their own. Those rare few history lovers maybe would, but most kids wouldn't.

I would like to drop a extra bit of headcanon. I remember someone pointing out how molly and arthur throughout the story specifically and sometimes comically pointing things out around harry and needing harrys help for things that they obviously can do themselves, like arthur asking harry for help with understanding muggle money or the classic rubber duck thing, and for molley clearly talking loudly about the platform near a lost harry, and giving him a second hand hand me down watch or the famous weasley scarf. even though the entirety of the weasley family has gone and knows where the platform is, i would reckon, especially with arthurs position in the ministry that they specifically help out students from non magic backgrounds make it to the platform and know their way around, even if its not outright. Think to when they go to diagon alley and they know EVERY SINGLE SHOP. i would imagine there are closer places to shop for the weasleys but for first years, diagon alley is IT. And take into the thought the whole mudblood thing or only old magic families thing some more nefarious magic folk think, then it makes perfect sense the false opinion, as well as how highly thought of and known the weasleys are in the english magic world that we can see. Because they are helping inspire the new generations of magic folk and bringing new life into magic.

Also, according to the same source (Pottermore), the Malfoys weren't so much into inbreeding as other pure-bloods (e.g. Lestranges) and so they married not only pure-bloods but also half-bloods. But logically, if you have an ancestor who's a half-blood, that means that one of said ancestor's parents must've been a Muggle or a Muggleborn. And these people are your ancestors as well! Your ancestors on your father's side may be all magical - but go several generations back on your mother's side, and it'll be Muggles left and right. There is a point to make, though. The books stated that for the most part the witches & wizards weren't actually tortured. I can't remember her name, but one witch went back multiple times to be burned at the stake because she enjoyed the way it felt. Maybe it wasn't always that way, but it was that way at least 350 years or so. With that said, the pure blood thing was definitely idiocy, especially when, as you shared, some of the most powerful were half bloods.

Muggles must have been perceived as a real threat to the magical folk at some point in the past though. Otherwise why would wizards and witches feel the need to hide their very existence from the Muggle world and create a separate society? If all that Muggle violence was truly just a joke to them, why hide? I too remember that witch who liked being burned at a stake. But what about young magical children? Or adult wizards and witches who had their wands taken away by Muggles during an ambush? Those incapable of wandless magic would be completely helpless.
@MitchMitchellStories5 жыл бұрын
@@proximashining776 Supposedly the major problems involved children and magical folk who weren't trying to hide their abilities. As the muggle community got more aggressive things got really bad. If the crowd got to someone and took their wand when they weren't expecting problems, most couldn't defend themselves. Those who could were fine, but I guess it's like regular society in a way; some can protect themselves, some can't. BTW, I got this information from Potter Wiki.

Does anyone know the name of the sad-sounding soundtrack in this Harry Potter evaluation vid? I've heard it before, but can't think of the name.

You talk about the Salem Witch Trials, but wasn’t something said about them not being able to burn witches? They’d be able to do a freeze charm, and one liked the feeling so much that they did it multiple times.

But not all of them was like that lol i mean if that the case there would be literally *zero* numbers of victim that died during that 100+ more years of persecution.

The Sacred Twenty-Eight is the complete list of the British pure blood families. I imagine there are other pure blood families around the world.

Jay T There haven’t been muggle attacks on wizards for centuries at the time of the Harry Potter books.The pure blood supremacists are holding on to outdated views.

@@rouskeycarpel1436 Just because they're not written on paper doesn't mean there isn't still a 'war' on wizardry. Look at the Churches, for example. Rowling never went into them, but you can imagine just how toxic their word is.

Contrary to popular belief, the Weasly's are actually not poor, they just don't have the luxury in life, they also never starved, not even once.
@mermaidprincess274 жыл бұрын
but I dont really get Lucius's "excuse" for hating muggles, even if they did burn wizards and witches to death, the most recent case of that would be the Salem witch trials, which wasnt even in Britain. it's been so long (and it's not like he ever experienced this, nor his parents or grandparents probably) that I dont think it's a valid viewpoint... he's just racist lol

Thinking about this I am trying to work out a story line where some how a kidnapped witch of a pure blood line some how accidentally finds their way home.
