Great talk, very nuanced! And goodness knows that we need more nuance regarding the presentation of information relating to the gut microbiome! Thanks, Lucy!

According to Jason Hawrelak / Lucy's video at the 2020 IHH-UCSF Symposium on Nutrition and Functional Medicine..there's no general guidelines at the population level on the specific flora makeup one should have. However, at the individual level, it seems it's better to cultivate more anaerobic bacteria (the kind that can take fiber and make short-chain-fatty-acids like butyrate).. rather than the more pro-inflammatory opportunistic bugs that can live with or without oxygen. Usually, the large intestine is the most anaerobic environment compared to the stomach / small intestine. To cultivate the gut then it's best to take Ketones and Zinc-Carnosine (ZnC) (improve barrier function by decreasing inflammation), Serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin (Ortho Molecular's SBI Protect, progurt?), herbs (Atrantil (constipation), Iberogast (IBS), triphala (ayurvedic), NOT grape-seed-extract for candida), Type RS3 Resistant Starch (starchy foods cooked/cooled)... with the best way to restore the gut flora after antibiotics/oxygen-leakage is with one's own FMT? Or if at risk of c-diff, then using probiotics (Saccharomyces boulardii). Any thoughts on Anurag Singh work that drinking pomegranate juice (ellagitannins) helps promote Urolithin A / Akkermansia? BTW, Dr. Michael Ruscio has a nice bacticure protocol for treating small intestinal dysbiosis (quality) / small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) (quantity).

The mice in the forced exercise study are as likely responding to STRESS rather than strenuous activity.

If you exclude all animal studies that used high-fat + high-carb diets instead of proper high-fat diets, you actually find that the microbiome might do better on high-fat!

Can you maybe elaborate? Most studies are pointing out that omega-3 from fats (nowadays also a lot of research on the saturated fats) but especially high-fiber (in carbs) are good for the microbiome

I'm eating high in fat, carbs and protein and i haven't gotten fat from it. It seems the eating more saturated fat helps me to tolerate carbs more.
